Subject: [EDA] (NJC) Rowdy's post/Goodbye Nice post Rowdy...I'll add a few comments as well... - ----- >Alot of us grew up on the list, and now we do not feel so innocent, have >become disillusioned since we realized our hero is human, and far from >perfect too. We fell back from our idealistic views when we saw this, >and after the constant hounding from the real world. Disenchantment >spreads, and so the older members on the list, those who often put >together the gatherings, and financed more than their share caught the >mailease as well. - ------ Very true indeed. I think you joined just after me, so of course we're both well aware of everything that's come and gone since. >but the people I've started thinking of as "friends" instead of "EDAs" >did much more for me. Most of these friends I met in my first three >years, - ---------- Same here. Alot of the newer list members I don't think realize this aspect of the list though. I've had someone write me privately who was amazed simply that someone mentioned about all the angelfood that used to be traded around. Could you imagine if every new person who joined knew all the details of the list's history? All the trading, the tape trees, the gatherings, LRC's, etc, etc....they would be overwhelmed! >I think I would be cheating myself by letting the tone of the list drive >me away. We can let a few people "ruin" the list, or we can just ignore >them, and set our tone. - ------------ I totally agree with this too. I've been saying the list is it's own worst enemy for a long time now. As an observer, I picked up on this many months ago. It's unfortunate some have to reply to seemingly innocent posts with downright rude comments, if for no other reason, to start a debate. It used to not be this way...the first 4 years and some months *I was on the list*. >1. Getting many replies for stupid little questions I posted in the >past, even if a few were people saying that they did not know the >answer. - --------------- It would be nice if this could occur again too, but lately every time someone posts one of these stupid little questions, they get flamed. I'm sure yours would too now...for the same posts you used to send before. The EDA community isn't what it once was. Companies have a turn over of employees. This list has had one HUGE turnover probably 5 or 6 times over in the past few years. I've been trying to find out how many people are even still signed on to this list who were around since early '96. I don't think there's many. So naturally, it won't be the same as it was then. >2. Reading the occasional post about odd things jewel-related or not >that happened during some EDAs day... Seeing things from their view >point has made me look at my views more than once after such a post. - ----------------- When people try to write things like this now, they get flamed for it as well. See a trend here? Rowdy, everything you are saying was true back then...yes. But the people on the list now, at least many of them, are new, and a different group. To see things from another's viewpoint also requires an open mind. I know you have one, as I do, but you can't expect that in everyone else. There are some on the list of course...but most of the problems of the list are due to those who are close minded. >4. not related to email, but just being at EDA gatherings.. for all my >online typing, I am a very quiet person in person. I do not have to >talk all the time to have a good time, and besides, for me it is just as >fun to listen to everyone else's stories. - ------------ He's not lying! :-) And like you Rowdy, I also like to observe (as you know). I've found it possible to learn more about someone, or people without even saying a word. Just by listening. Which is why the majority of my time on this list, by far, as been in the form of "listening". As a result, I've learned quite alot about the people here. Once again, thanks for the post Rowdy. Let's hope some others take the time to read it. :-) Derrick ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 9 Dec 2001 00:55:28 -0600 From: "New World Warehouse" Subject: [EDA] NJC: EDA gallery Ok, here's an idea I'm gonna toss around. In the attempt to try and make the EDA's a little more "real", I'm gonna try to put together an EDA gallery page. Basically, you'll first need a pic of yourself (or a couple would be nice). Then, maybe a slight paragraph about yourself. I'll put up a website that will have all the EDAs on it and then you can click on each person's picture and find out a little about them and see what they look like. Also, include your Angel name (if you have one). What do you guys think ? It won't work unless I get a pretty good amount of people interested. So if you are interested, go ahead and send me the info I just talked about and I'll start on it. If not, oh well, it's just an idea. Lew www.coilback.com By the way, this includes Mike and MrBB...(of course an exclusive Jewel pic would be nice to put on there too, but I can live with a stock one).... ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 09 Dec 2001 06:57:37 +0000 From: "now and zen girl" Subject: [EDA] NJC: goodbye i have been a dedicated fan of jewel for the past 5 years as well. but it wasnt until this last june that i finally joined the list. i had wanted to for the longest time, but i never had a computer. i wish i knew the way the list used to be. i wish i knew the list that i was so excited to join. i just had bad timing, i joined right in the midst of some argument. i was so dissapointed by it that i almost left that same week i joined. and then every post i put up, which were all positive, cus i didnt think we would fight on jewel list, call me naive, but every post i put up i got yelled at! id love to know that list that you old timers speak of... with EDA gatherings and fun conversations, worthwhile conversations, being excited when you see you have an email with the heading jewel-digest. i think what rowdy said was really wonderful, and very true. i really liked what he said about things changing once we noticed jewel was human, i thought that was a great point to be made. but i really think it says something about this list when so many people have wanted to leave, but then have either come back or changed there mind, like i have. we realize there is still something in this list that is special, and unique, and worth the stay. so im stickin' it out, and im not leaving, no matter how bad it gets. cus there is some good, and some worthwhile messages. and if you completely skip over the negative ones, like ive been doing for the past month or so, you will see there really is good left in this list. and if we all skip those negative posts, there wont be any reason to reply, and soon there wont be silly, pointless, arguments cluttering the space on what was and still could be a great list!!!! "these foolish games are tearing me appart. and your thoughtless words are breaking my heart." lets stop these foolish games. jewel would not be proud of this list, the way she should be, if she read what goes on here... to think the group of her biggest most dedicated fans, people who should have learned something from her, are this hopeless! sad. we shouldnt be affraid to bring back, and bring out, what we have learned! thanks for reading. alisa - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 09 Dec 2001 07:00:35 +0000 From: "now and zen girl" Subject: [EDA] mississippi review when i started reading this review i thought it was gonna be a really bad and negative one. i sure am glad i gave it a chance. it turned out to have a really possitive feel to it somehow. i dont agree with what he said about this way being overproduced, and i basically disagreed with everything he said about this way. but, he had some very good points, and very possitive things to say about jewel as an overall artist. i really liked how he compared her to neil young, and joni mitchell! that was really cool. just my thoughts. alisa - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 9 Dec 2001 02:22:52 EST From: Pixi42@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] Great interview/new pics in new Blender! that interview was great!!! if u have not read it u should, quite amusing:) heidi }:}i{:{ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 9 Dec 2001 01:31:52 -0600 From: "New World Warehouse" Subject: [EDA] NJC: EDA gallery...more info Ok, some of you have written to tell me about the EDA yearbook. Does anyone know if the radio version of Standing Still is different than the album version? I know it's customary for radio stations to speed up songs a little for time constraints, but every single time I've heard the song on radio, I think it's been sped up.. I'm not completely sure, but it always has a certain "oomph" that it never has on the CD.. In fact, every time I hear it start on radio, I run to hear it.. It always sounds 10x better.. The guitar gets almost frantic sounding, and the song as a whole sounds SO much better.. I thought it was just my station, but I just listened to it on Rick Dees, and it seems like it was sped up on there too.. Does anyone else notice this? Does anyone have the radio promo CD who can verify/deny this? Does anyone believe in love, I mean true love? (Sorry, couldn't resist.. For you folks you haven't heard it, Jewel's "Does Anyone Believe In Love" is a great, great song..) =) scott.evans [[mind is DISCONNECTED. but my heart is WIRED.]] AOL IM: sevans112 . Yahoo! Hey Guys The first certification that we know of has come up - This Way has gone GOLD in Australia. That's 35 000 units shipped to stores. In the US Gold is 500 000 units, but Australia is MUCH smaller than the US - only 18 million people. Jewel has actually sold more albums than there are people in Australia - how weird is that? Anyway. This Way sits at #30 on Australia's current albums chart (starting to steady in it's drop). And Standing Still moves from 47 to 44 this week, so it's starting to climb again. I always thought it was striking how Bjork's first album in 1977 (released only in Iceland) went gold with only 1,000 copies sold. But I think her much better '83 album with Tappi Tikarrass didn't go gold. By the way, I have her first album on an "import" (yeah, right) cd...sweetly funny little record I must say.
