Anyhow, my name is Long Le and I live in Mississauga Ontario. Let's get right to the juicy part, Jewel will be appearing on the Mike Bullard Show on December 10, 2001. To those who don't know, it's Canada's version of Jay Leno ( or David Letterman) I have requested tickets for the show and I have three tickets, however, I can get more. That's right, I can get more. If there are die hard fans of Jewel who would like to attend, please email me. If we pooled in, we can try and get more tickets so there will be a large Jewel fanbase there there to support her. That me and Jewel sat and had a barbecue on the beach at night then played some guitar, she loved anonymity so much she sacked off music to live with me!! (i'm not a Jewel worshipping saddo, i just thought i'd keep it in list context!) 3) Are you a virgin? What did you get on the SAT? never took it, never will. got into college without it. but it doesn't matter since i'm not in school anymore. 2. What is a weird dream that you remember? flying. flying over rocky cliffs that hang over the ocean. just soaring through the sky as if i had wings. actually i have this dream frequently, each time in a different setting, but recently i've been able to freely fly, and freekly land. in the past, i'd just start flying without any warning, and i havent been able to land which makes for a pretty scary thing, when your flying low to the ground trying to land, but unable to stop flying... but now i can control my dreams, and make myself fly, and make myself land... i love being in control :) 3. Are you a virgin? no, but i wish i was. >np: waterdeep: everyone's beautiful cymbie tree hugger - -- when night falls it's dawn one must reach for. - -a. camus ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Nov 2001 17:54:17 -0500 From: "Rich Long" Subject: Re: [EDA] Jewel's "wage" I thought it was interesting for you to try to "calculate" Jewel's salary and put it into terms that some kids might understand. Of course we all know that the girl makes ALOT more than that. You left out well over half of the revenue that she gets for doing other things as well. At the peak of her popularity she was making well over 10 million a year. I can't tell you were I got that figure, but that is still nothing compared to say a movie star who doesn't even do more than 2 movies a year. Tom Hanks for instanse makes over 67 million a year :) Either way Derrick I think you are right. I would be one VERY happy person if I made that kind of money. I heard somewhere that Jewel gives 40% of her salary to charity. I wish 40% of just ONE of her paychecks came to my front door, it would be like winning the lottery. Think about that next time before you say everyone is entitled to have a "bad" day. (whoever's been saying this) She has NOTHING to bitch about. She can quit at any time. She can do anything she wants at any time. She is in control of her career and her life. She's "set" for life. She has nothing to complain about. Nothing. I am not sure you realize the costs involved in making, promoting and producing a CD. Also, to say she was making money from day one of POY is insane. Record companies "invest" in artists, but they expect to be paid back. Nobody knows for sure, but I can imagine Jewel was paying back Atlantic deep into 1996 when YWMFM started to climb. They invested a tremendous amount into her for two solid years before sales got to a breakeven level. Tours are to promote and sell albums and for an artist like Jewel, probably rarely make much money (except for the venue, and the payroll of those who she/Atlantic employ.) And I don't think we all realize how expensive it is to be rich and famous (those limos aren't free you know) :-P Again, I am assuming here, but I would guess her biggest nest egg came from writing. (Given the material was already done and just needed to be repurposed into a book or two.) What has her set for life are the residual royalties from songs that will probably be played for a long time to come. So yes, she is doing ok for herself - but that doesn't mean the money can't be eroded over a lifetime. You only have so much time in the sun and you have to secure as much as possible to save for the future. (Kind of like pro athletes.) So even if we accept she's making $100 per hour now, I guarantee you that in the future that will be substantially less and the money she's making and saving now will have to carry the load. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Nov 2001 19:30:11 EST From: AquaBearer@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] Jewel on the list She wouldn't have time to spy since she is apparently the hardest working person who ever walked the planet. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Nov 2001 20:25:04 EST From: RunTontoRun@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Very mad... & Question 4 Mike I am very mad with the people who sent the letters to Mr.BB we should all just be happy that he is part of this list and all the great things he's done for us and helped us do.
