Subject: [EDA] Hard working people I find it rather amusing that so many people talk about how HARD Jewel works...yet they know if they had the chance, they'd give just about anything to be in her shoes. Now let's think about this...when's the last time you knew of so many 13-18 year olds *wanting* to work so HARD. LOL ;-) Just some light-hearted insight into these latest discussions. The bottom line is that while Jewel may work somewhat hard, relatively speaking (but still not as hard as many other artists and celebrities in general), there are TONS (literally) of common folks who I guarantee you work many times harder than Jewel ever has in her life. Anyone who disagrees with this is in some serious denial. (and are most likely insulting their own parents while being in that denial...of course they wouldn't even realize this) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Nov 2001 11:00:03 -0600 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W." Subject: [EDA] Jewel's "wage" And to comment about something in Eric's post...if you were to add up all the money Jewel has made to date, vs. the hours she's worked...heck, let's just say she works 24 hours/day...since you can't get any greater than that (LOL), then I promise you her hourly wage would be WELL over $100/hr. I'm estimating low here just to be realistic. So I don't know about you guys and gals, but if I was making that much per hour, 24 hours/day, 7 days/wk, doing something I enjoyed doing to earn a living, I wouldn't have too many "bitchy" days. :-) I'd be pretty darn happy with my life. Here's the math for you: $100/hour, 24 hours/day = $2400/day x 365 days/year = $876,000/year. Seems like alot maybe, but this is still using 24 hours/day working. Let's cut that down to 12 hours/day now...still alot by most people's standards. So that's "only" $438,000/year. Being that we all know Jewel is financially set for life, and is a multimillionaire several times over...I think it's pretty safe to say she's earning at least $100/hour...once you break it down. (since her PoY - present career has consisted of a mere 7 years. $438,000 x 7 = approx. $3 million. That's not exactly pocket change. And I'd bet she has alot more than 3 mill. And if you cut that 12 hours/day down to 6, which is probably more realistic as far as what she actually "works" in a day, then you can see her hourly wage would be more like $200+/hour. For singing and writing songs and playing a guitar, and entertaining people....something she enjoys doing. Where can I sign up for this gig??? Here's something else to think about....PoY alone has sold over 11 million copies. If Jewel only pocketed 1% of those sales alone....just a measly 1%...giving a whopping 99% to all the other "people" involved...she would have still earned a minimum of $1.1 MILLION dollars! (using a CD price of $10...which is low) This is just from the sales of one CD. Forget about concert ticket sales, merchandise, all the other marketing money she's pulling in...and her other 3 CD's. Now do you see....she's getting compensated VERY well for the time she actually spends working. I wouldn't even doubt if it comes out to more like $400/hour. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Nov 2001 11:02:08 -0600 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W." While there will be times that an obscure Jewel TV appearance might get missed, as in PBR related events which we are rarely ever informed about and last minute scheduling changes, we are extremely conscientious about updating the calendar. Yesterday alone, I updated it 9 times throughout the day. The Rockerfeller Center Tree Lighting pre-show was added to the calendar around 6:30 last night, which is when I was informed that the local NYC NBC affilliates would be using a Jewel clip they taped several weeks ago (It was not live.) I debated even putting it up at such a late time, especially since it was not going to be broadcast nationally, but it was indeed up prior to the broadcast. I realize in this particular instance that it was of little help. We are limited on how many JeweLink messages we can send each month and in last night's instance, I couldn't justify sending a NewsFlash when it applied to a fraction of 1% of the subscribers. I noticed that a few of the people upset about not catching this were accusing us of intentionally not informing you, which is certainly not the case. However, it does bring up a browser issue that is worth mentioning and that may help many of you.. An important thing to remember is that when the calendar is full, as it will be for the foreseeable future, and when the file itself is quite large, you will often not be able to load the most current calendar unless you clear your browsers cache. This is particularly important if you are checking it more than once a day and specifically applies to all AOL people because their browser often retains the last loaded file unless you clear your cache AND shut down and reboot. This is one of the drags of using the AOL browser and there is nothing we can do about it. Users of other browsers should make a habit of refreshing the browser when checking the calendar, if you want to be certain you are loading the most current file. We are trying our best to get every TV-related Jewel item on the calendar in a timely manner and will continue to do so in the future, but with the intense activity level going on lately, you can also help. I welcome you contacting me if you notice a missing item or a discrepency on the calendar. As long as you remain calm and let us know your concern in a friendly manner, I promise you we'll do our best to check on things and take appropriate steps to solve any calendar issues you may have. Also, thank you to the EDAs that brought this issue to my attention. And while I'm here... Thank you to the various EDAs who have written us in the past few days asking about holiday Clearwater donations and about the desire of continuing the annual EDA Christmas project. I passed your wishes on to Shane (Jewel's brother) and he'll be getting back to me later today or early tomorrow. I will get that information to you asap. Cheers!
