I couldn't believe that she would do that. The whole conversation come up after they just finished playing Standing Still and started talking. The DJs were saying that Jewel will be performing at Jingle Ball and then this one DJ said, "Let's hope she is in a good mood this time." And then they all started talking about the whole picture thing. I was pretty upset because I know they were probably exaggerating the situation. It has listings for about two weeks, you can search for any artist up to a month ahead, search for genre of music or network, and it has an informational blurb for each network and if that network has a website, it lists that too. I turned MrBB onto it a few years back and he's been using it ever since to find out when repeats of any Jewel appearance is going to be on so he can update her website with that information. (ya didn't think the networks contacted the J-team with re-broadcast info did ya?). The site of course also lists NEW programming featuring Jewel too. All she needs to be is pleasant, and unfortunately it seems that all too often she is not. Radio DJs have no motive to bash artists, and alot of incentive not to (AKA booking guests, unless you are Stern), plus all the stories that have circulated on the list. Bruce Springsteen is huge, and no one has ever accused him of being unpleasant or less than accomodating. I used to see Yankee players all the time where I worked, and not one of them ever was nasty to anyone. Jewel can live her life as she wants, but she has to live with the rep. - ----- Original Message ----- From: "cymbaline" To: Sent: Wednesday, November 28, 2001 4:40 PM Subject: Re: [EDA] Re: Jewel Bashing on z100 > One more thing, about "accomodating your fans at promotional appearances". > isn't it accomodating enough to watch her perform? she IS accomodating > perople by letting them listen to her sing. Personally, if I were famous and had people chasing after me for autographs all the time I'd get kind of sick of it. None of these people actually want to KNOW you ... all they want is a PICTURE with you or your signature scrawled on a sheet of paper. To have people constantly wanting to take a piece of you home with them must be somewhat draining. Personally, I think the less fake Jewel remains the more honest her music is going to be. One of the things I've always LIKED about Jewel is that she tries to portray a real and human image of herself in the media, as opposed to being some kind of "superwoman". She's always rejected the cartoonish image that the media has given her... and her poetry book and CDTD were designed to give her fans a larger perspective of her as a person. The bottom line is - Jewel's celebrity doesn't disentitle her to have a shitty day.. or be in a bad mood, or be a bitch occasionally. We all know Jewel has a temper.. she's displayed it before on many occasions... she shouldn't have to repress that just because she's famous.. and certainly not to appease some fan who wants a picture. Furthermore, I think she's well aware of what her fans have done for her. She acknowledges the EDAs on a regular basis and Jewel's management could be a LOT less attached to her fans and this list if Jewel wanted them to... if she cut off ties with us I'd say she was ungrateful... but she hasn't. As far as the specific Z100 incident... she was a bitch, clearly... and I feel sorry for the person who had to face that... but whatever - we're ALL like that sometimes. And in her defence I think at that time she had pneumonia and was just generally having a shitty time promoting the Christmas CD. So there's a reason that she might've been in a shit mood. Nonetheless.. she's entitled to her shitty mood. We all are. I am not attacking the statement. I just want to make a point of it. THE ARTIST KNOWS THIS WILL HAPPEN BEFORE HAND! They know what they are getting themselves into. THe best thing to do if you are going to be in the business is to ACCEPT it. It makes everything go smoother and everyone involved happier. And a responsible mature artist, which I think Jewel is, knows this. This could be an isolated incident. In the media only the odd/attention grabbers get attention. Everyone is allowed a few mistakes. ~kris~ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Nov 2001 17:23:13 -0600 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W."
