Hi all. First post from me. How'ya doin'? I need some help from you oldtimers. I am looking for a short poem to be read (by me) to my niece Clara on Saturday. I am going to become her guardian (godfather), and I would love to read her something really nice. I already quoted Jewel in my speech at my sisters wedding last summer, when I talked about their little baby girl, Clara. I read a few lines from I'm sensitive... Clara is 1,5 years old, adorable, wonderful and funny. Did I mention adorable... and wonderful? I have been looking for a nice poem, but haven't found that perfect piece yet. Any ideas? Please send me some suggestions that I can consider. By Jewel or someone else. I have Jewels cd's and a few singles, but I haven't read her poems yet. Now time is running out on me. Please help. Best regards, Henrik ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Nov 2001 22:09:30 -0500 (EST) From: space_bandits@webtv.net Subject: [EDA] Re: Jewel on MTV I didn't see the show, but assuming it's accurate... Well, maybe hanging out with Garth has rubbed off on Jewel. I'm not insulting Garth or his fans or Jewel, ok? But Garth Brooks is the guy who says he's going to retire from this, that and the other thing just about every time he opens his mouth in an interview. And he's done so for like 6 years. Thats not a criticism that is a fact. I hope Jewel isn't being discouraged over the *relative* lack of huge sales so far. There's still plenty of time to see it all turn around. And I bet her fans will still pack the gigs. Jewel is a very successful and well-loved artist. And I hope she > doesn't have an attitude like they said she does. You're right. Jewel is perfect. She would never say anything like that. Not ever. No way. And you're right... she should be down on her knees thanking her fans and giving up any private, personal time she has, to take pictures with fans and signing autographs cause without us she'd be nothing. And since she's famous, she is obligated to sign autographs and have pictures taken by people she doesn't even know, every single time she goes out into public. Jewel is an angel. She's perfect in every way. She's not a real person. She's a superhuman. Now, I will say, since it's supposed to be stuff mainly that is "lying around", the $$$ amount shouldn't be that relevant. Besides the fact that you should be giving for the sake of giving, not whether or not you get the same in return...ah, but that would be in a perfect world. I'm thinking the $10-$20 range sounds reasonable. If it is something you just have, just use an estimated value. Basically, use common sense...if you do send someone something valuable, just remember, you might only get something small back if anything at all. I'm gonna do my best to make sure no one gets burned on this, but just try to use some common sense. What do you think Rowdy ? Whatever we decide I'll include on the email that is sent to the people when they get their names. Lew www.coilback.com Date: Tue, 27 Nov 2001 16:41:53 -0600 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W." Subject: [EDA] gift exchange I think if we're going to have a gift exchange, a price limit (or better yet, range) needs to be set so there aren't alot of upset people. It's reality. It's going to happen if there aren't some guidelines established regarding price. And if you'll be sending something you already own, you can still estimate it's value. Like say $10-$20. I think that's reasonable. Being that there are a variety of types of people on this list, ranging anywhere from 7 year olds in first grade to 60+ year olds....or 13 year old jr. high kids with no money whatsoever compared to a 40 year old corporate executive making well over 100k/year. I just think some guidelines should be in place regarding price. I've seen this done before, this gift exchange concept, and the only way it's ever successful is to set up something like this beforehand. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Nov 2001 23:09:01 -0500 From: "David & Beth" Subject: Re: [EDA] Why I'm An Obsessed EDA Are you comparing Jewel with G-d? - ----- Original Message ----- From: "jeannie djinn" To: Sent: Tuesday, November 27, 2001 3:05 PM Subject: [EDA] Why I'm An Obsessed EDA > Ashley Staggers,The Sweet Angel, I like what you have > to say about Jewel helping people with their problems. > > > I think most of us here probably have some sort of > problems with our lives or else we wouldn't be here. > > Jewel does indeed heal the soul with her words and > philosophies.
