Today's Subjects: ----------------- [EDA] Jewel sick of SS; "Foolish Games"; Conan, etc. [Jessica Park Subject: [EDA] Jewel sick of SS; "Foolish Games"; Conan, etc. Hey, folks, It's funny how it's been said that Jewel can't be sick of "Standing Still" already, especially after having performed "Foolish Games" "on every tv and concert stage known to man for a few years." Although I may well have the year wrong, I recall an award show in '97 (The MTV Music Video Awards, I think -- one of the MTV shows, anyway) at which Jewel was slated to perform "Foolish Games." Instead, our favorite Alaskan folkrocker got up on the stage and announced that she was *supposed* to sing "Foolish Games," but, instead, she was going to play a song called "Angel Standing By." I remember that performance as being particularly beautiful -- she really got into it - -- and I wish I could find the tape that it's on so I could watch it again. Do you see what I'm getting at, though? With just herself and her guitar, she has the freedom to say, "Hey, I'm sick of playing this song; I'm gonna play *this* song, instead." With the band... she can't be as spontaneous. I don't want to get into some big speculative discussion on what's going on in Jewel's life right now. However, I thought it bore pointing out that Jewel *has* "gotten sick" of other songs in the past -- even the infamous "Foolish Games." Besides, when it comes to SS, I agree with those who've said that it's a very "studio" song... don't you think Jewel knows this, too? She's probably not too thrilled with having to continue singing this song live just because it's the first single, especially since it doesn't lend itself to live performances, and she may have wanted to play something else that really benefitted from the live treatment the other night. If Conan pressured her into playing SS, that would explain the "thanks for doing it" that he said to her at the end of the song. Okay, I said I wasn't going to speculate, so I'm gonna quit now. =) I've said my piece -- Jewel may well be sick of SS "already," she's probably discontent with the lack of chemistry among her band, and... hell... maybe she's just tired. I know *I* am at the moment, and I'm not even a rock star. =) - --Jess ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Nov 2001 21:02:51 EST From: Cember76@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] Jewel sick of SS; "Foolish Games"; Conan, etc. In a message dated 11/25/2001 5:52:59 PM Pacific Standard Time, jesspark@citrus.infi.net writes: > Instead, our favorite Alaskan folkrocker got up on the > stage and announced that she was *supposed* to sing "Foolish Games," but, > instead, she was going to play a song called "Angel Standing By." So she decided to change the song. It was a beautiful perfomance. No doubt it can happen. I was a bass player in a high-school party-circuit band and although we didn't play every week I got *sick* of doing a few songs over and over. Of course I was playing for beer usually and rarely actual money...Cash may have made a difference in my enthusiasm, it most likely would have. :-) Sean Received: from smtpin-102-3.bryant.webtv.net (209.240.198.121) by storefull-615.iap.bryant.webtv.net with WTV-SMTP; Sun, 25 Nov 2001 17:53:04 -0800 (PST) Received: by smtpin-102-3.bryant.webtv.net (WebTV_Postfix+sws) id E3CD41E7; Sun, 25 Nov 2001 17:53:09 -0800 (PST) Delivered-To: space_bandits@webtv.net Received: from smoe.org (jane.smoe.org [66.89.201.78]) by smtpin-102-3.bryant.webtv.net (WebTV_Postfix+sws) with ESMTP id AAA65245; Sun, 25 Nov 2001 17:53:08 -0800 (PST) Received: from smoe.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by smoe.org (8.12.0.Beta16/8.12.0.Beta16) with ESMTP id fAQ1qcRj001617; Sun, 25 Nov 2001 20:52:39 -0500 (EST) Received: from localhost (daemon@localhost) by smoe.org (8.12.0.Beta16/8.12.0.Beta16/submit) with SMTP id fAQ1qajj001615; Sun, 25 Nov 2001 20:52:36 -0500 (EST) Received: by smoe.org (bulk_mailer v1.10); Sun, 25 Nov 2001 20:52:15 -0500 Received: from smoe.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by smoe.org (8.12.0.Beta16/8.12.0.Beta16) with ESMTP id fAQ1qDRj001572 for ; Sun, 25 Nov 2001 20:52:13 -0500 (EST) Received: (from majordom@localhost) by smoe.org (8.12.0.Beta16/8.12.0.Beta16/submit) id fAQ1qCrK001571 for jewel-outgoing; Sun, 25 Nov 2001 20:52:12 -0500 (EST) Received: from teliamx1.infostreet.com (mx1.myuser.net [209.14.30.249]) by smoe.org (8.12.0.Beta16/8.12.0.Beta16) with SMTP id fAQ1q5Rj001562 for ; Sun, 25 Nov 2001 20:52:05 -0500 (EST) Date: Sun, 25 Nov 2001 20:52:05 -0500 (EST) Message-Id: <200111260152.fAQ1q5Rj001562@smoe.org> Received: (qmail 4300 invoked from network); 26 Nov 2001 01:51:45 +0000 Received: from unknown (HELO jesspark) (206.42.111.8) by mx1.myuser.net with SMTP; 26 Nov 2001 01:51:45 +0000 X-Sender: jesspark@citrus.infi.net X-Mailer: Windows Eudora Light Version 1.5.2 Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" To: jewel@smoe.org From: Jessica Park Subject: [EDA] Jewel sick of SS; "Foolish Games"; Conan, etc. Sender: owner-jewel@smoe.org Precedence: bulk Hey, folks, It's funny how it's been said that Jewel can't be sick of "Standing Still" already, especially after having performed "Foolish Games" "on every tv and concert stage known to man for a few years." It seems to me that the list is running just fine right now and discussing Jewel and their feelings for her.I can't help feeling that you're complaining about the way the list was a month or two ago. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Nov 2001 21:43:09 -0500 From: "Melis H." Subject: [EDA] happy to be an eda/questions for the new Hey everyone! I havent been an official eda very long.. but I have to say I have met a few really nice people on here. (rowdy..abby..bob...) to name a few.. I agree with Lew though, I have seen a couple of posts that have made me cringe. Ya know i believe in everyone having their own opinion and all... but we are all here- united because of Jewel. If you are going to down her- why would you join a list to support her? Also- I have asked for some angelfood... but only a few people responded.. I heard that Jewel gave us permission to dubb the JewelStock tapes so we shouldnt get charge besides like shipping and/or tapes to record them on.... but almost everyone that responded to me that they would charge like $10 per tape plus S/h. I dont mean to sound cheap- and I know those tapes are well worth it but I am kind of confused. I believe if I heard right? Did I? Can any longtime eda help me out? :-? I'd like to know who is charging $10 per tape. Seriously. Thats B.S!!!!!! Angelfood, and any live recordings of any artist, for that matter, should NOT be charged for. Thats what TRADING is called. If you don't have anything to trade, thats where providing B&P (blanks and postage) come into play. If you charge, thats called profiting, it's also called stealing. No one should be making a profit off any live recording. Y'all ought to be ashamed of yourself. IF I had the time to do trading right now, I'd be more than happy to. For no more cost than the cost of a tape in return. cymbie tree hugger - -- when night falls it's dawn one must reach for. - -a. camus ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Nov 2001 22:07:06 EST From: Wesllow@aol.com Subject: [EDA] turkey day recollections..stuffed Hi angels, wow after being away from the list for the last 5 days i see yall have turned another minute occurance into a 3-day soap opera drama. I taped cona the other night thinking , hmm she looks tired...yah so she wasnt jumping around the stage , but she wasnt lashing out at the audience either lol, plus the short skirt thing has no relavence here either..anyone remember a certain SNL appearance?...leather clad and slightly hooker-chique she performed and the whole award show where she gave everyone a shadow of her god given bounty. hmm sounds like we once again are worrying way to much over petty things.. some more things i wanted to chime in on.- the "standign still" Australian single is well kinda dull....a long slow slide is ok , but that version of stephenville IMO , is kinda boring- still i was happy cause it finally came in soo i will be content, another note....I just got Steve's "Answering Machine" cd and it is soooo funny ..i reccomend if anyone can find it to get it! I cant wait till steves new albulm comes out and for all you socal Eda's go out and support him..he is always doing gigs out there (more info at poltz.com) on a last note ..wow theres another Wes on the list , welcome "newwildwest" hehe i'll start wes-jewel fanclub ok thats all the info that came outta my brian at this sitting have a nice monday everyone!
