Is it necessary to determine that she hates singing Standing Still, and that she's uncomfortable in short skirts? (Just for the record she's worn mini skirts many times before and never looked the least bit uncomfortable with herself) We don't know her. We may THINK we do, but in reality we just know a face. a voice. the music. But do we know her deepest thoughts? her innermost feelings at any given moment? Only one person can know what she thinks and feels for sure, and that's HERSELF. Let's please stop trying to psychoanalyze her based on facial expressions or whatever that was shown on 5 minutes of TV. Also, Is it necessary to assume that she's not happy with her new band? Or even be wondering why Steve Poltz isn't playing in her band, and wondering whether or not they're even friends anymore because he's not in her band? I have 2 things to say about *that*... 1)Steve has a singing/songwriting career of his own... he cant just spend the rest of his life being in Jewel's shadow, when he can be pursuing an extremely successful solo career. 2)Her management team most likely decides on a tour band, not Jewel. I'm getting tired of reading post after post "I can tell jewel's not happy with her band. she should find a new band" and "I can tell jewel was in a bad mood." "maybe she had an argument with ty" and "jewel probably was self conscious wearing that short skirt" reading posts like that over and over gets pretty old. cymbie tree hugger - -- when night falls it's dawn one must reach for. - -a. camus ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Nov 2001 22:42:20 EST From: Fredsteve@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Re: jewel-digest V6 #606 She didn't have a band during the POY tour because Pieces of You didn't have a band either. She will have a band for the upcoming tour because the record is almost entirely band-oriented. And Pieces of You didn't sell more than any of other CDs because it was acoustic-only... it sold that many because it had 3 huge hit singles that were far from being acoustic-only. Had Spirit had just as many singles it would have sold just as many copies - hell it sold 3 million based on Hands alone.. if the other 3 singles hit it would've made it to 10 for sure. Steve > My vote is for another "Tiny Light's" style tour...but this time covering > more areas like her Spirit Tour did. :-) She doesn't *reeeeaaaally* need > a > band does she??? She seldom had one during the "tour" for PoY. And it > sold > more than any of her other CD's have. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Nov 2001 03:53:23 From: "Rowdy White" Subject: [EDA] NJC: White Elephant, anyone? Hey, Well, I've not kept up with the xmas thread, but I've an idea.. Why not an EDA White Elephant gift exchange this year? Okay, What's a White Elephant? Basically it is: Folks send a list volunteer their names and address via email. The volunteer cuts up slips of paper with the different names on them. He/she has a blind drawing to match up the givers and receivers (you are on both lists . . . pledge to send a gift puts you on the receiving end also). We notify the senders of their designated victim . . . oops, I meant receiver. ;) You pick a gift . . . it's supposed to be something that's been collecting dust at your place, whatever that something would be is up to you. And the person sending you something does the same. The person getting a gift IS NOT getting their's from the same person they sent one to. Make it simple, make it crazy, its up to you.. Maybe an angelfood tape, maybe one of those silver sexy lady cutouts seen on trucks.... it's up to you.. Since there are children on the list, just make sure you use a bit of judgement on what you stick in the box!..So, post to the list if you are wanting in on something like this, and also if you would like to be a volunteer to make the drawing of names.. Perhaps that volunteer should be a long time list member, as that some people might not feel comfortable sending their addys to a "stranger"... So, Mike, Amy, Dennis, Jason, Tammy, any of ya'll free enough to do something like this? And once the volunteer is selected, or singled out as the case may be ;-) the people who want to do this email that volunteer with their names, and addys, and later the volunteer will email back with someone's name to send something to.... sound fun? Well, Noone ever said working wouldn't be tiring. But I would guess that being a star with creature comforts would make it easier than being someone who works 8 hours a day with a half-hour lunch and a few 15-minute breaks in between, every day. I'd be far less tired jetting around the world in relative luxury to do two, maybe three promo spots a day than the other, would you not be? I'm sure that Jewel herself would agree, and would rather put up with the industry b-s than to go back to where she was pre-Atlantic. Point being, she's one of a very few who are in the top 1% of their field and earning extremely good money. I just didn't understand everyone saying this and that without explaining any of it. If you seriously believe Jewel is tired, then the tour grind doesn't bode well. Jetting back and forth to do 2 hour shows every night... Thanks for the response, appreciated.
