Hey Guys Well, we're all wondering how Jewel's new album is doing in the states. Just for information, Spirit debuted at #3 on the US charts with about 360 000 sold. The chances of This Way matching Spirit's opening week, let alone get up to 500 000 copies sold are very slim considering the economy is weaker now and Hands was a bigger hit than Standing Still at the time. However, Jewel had a GREAT debut on the Australian charts this week. She debuted at #6. The only debuts ahead of her were Madonna and Pink Floyd's Greatest Hits collections. Spirit debuted at #5 in Australia, so this is pretty much on par with Spirit's debut. Unfortunately, I guess because the album is out, the single dropped from #32 to #36 in it's 4th week. Hopefully the single can still make it into the Top 30... we'll just have to see. Tomorrow we'll find out how the album is doing in the US. I think she'll end up with 175 000 - 200 000 and a low top 10 debut... which isn't bad. The reason Shakira's album is "exploding" is because her single is in the process of completely blowing up on radio. If Standing Still can put it into high gear on pop radio in the next couple of weeks (which it seems to be doing), the same thing might happen for This Way over Christmas. I personally hope that the album can sustain it's sales over a long period of time (like Pieces of You did)... I sure as hell wish I'd known that they show a gazillion other fights beforehand! I figured they might have one warm up match, and the preshow said it was ending at 8, so I thought I had plenty of time on my tape to catch Jewel! Needless to say, I was freakin' pissed!
