It'd be awesome if we had 1st crack at getting tickets. I'd love to be up close and actually be able to see Jewel. I'm lucky that chances are she will come somewhere near me. I'm in Rochester, so Buffalo, Syracuse, Toronto, and the Finger Lakes area are all reasonably close. But I hope she comes to Rochester, since I'm a grad student it's not practical to go very far for a concert, unless it happens to fall on a weekend. - -Kerri "But don't wander too far, my one constant star. They actually had a presale in which you had to have a password, which was given to you in an email. I don't see why the Jewel mailing list couldn't do the same thing. And actually, it was beneficial. I was 12 row and I waited till the end of the first day of the presale to get my tickets. Had I ordered them earlier, I would have gotten better seats. I hope it works that way with Jewel, too, because every time I've seen her it's been from a distance! I like a lot of classic rock too, Beatles, The Doors, Rolling Stones, Jefferson Airplane...blah blah blah. I guess I like the whole spectrum though because I listen to rap and some country as well as "girly" things like Shakira, Poe, Tori Amos, Jewel, Garbage, Elastica...etc. I guess as a songwriter and musician, I like to listen to pretty much anyone who I feel has a decent sound. Sometimes it's more research than listening I guess... If Jewel kept making albums like POY, eventually she would grow stale musically and either get bored with herself or everyone would get bored with her. If musicians kept having to stick to the "traditional" way of doing things, Mozart would be topping the Billboard charts.... Ozzy by the way still impresses me the way he can keep so current with so many band changes and music changing so much (not to mention really fickle fans). I don't hear anyone complaining that he doesn't sound like he did with Black Sabbath though. One of the week's big album releases was This Way, the long-awaited CD from Atlantic singer-songwriter Jewel and the early buzz from Hot A/C radio is quite positive. WTIC/FM-Hartford APD/MD Jeannine Jersey tells us, "I love the new CD and think Jewel remained true to herself, but steps it up a level by putting in a lot more percussion. Some of my favorite tracks are 'Everybody Needs Someone Sometime,' 'This Way,' and 'Cleveland.'" Across the country at KRSK (Rosie 105)-Portland, APD/MD Lisa Adams adds, "It sounds like she's trying to get back to her roots. I hear a lot of country and folk influences.even a little Rickie Lee Jones. She wrote from the heart for herself and the fans!" Adams' favorite cuts ("at least for today," she says) are the single, "Standing Still," "Break Me," "Do You Want To Play?," the title track, and "Love Me, Just Leave Me Alone." For you early risers, Jewel is slated to appear on NBC/TV's Weekend Today tomorrow morning. Fabio - the Brazilian angel PS: So, I think "This Way" would be a good single. I heard Susan Tedeschi on the Bob & Tom show early one morning, what they called, "Live Day," she did several songs with the new lineup of Double Trouble, which is Steve Vai and um, I dunno, since Stevie Ray died. She rocked on a cover of Led Zep's "Been a Long Time." Anyone else out there a semiregular Bob & Tom listener/have anything to say about Tedeschi? My cousin is a guitar virtuoso, which is lucky for him because he's an idiot at everything else. Every Thanksgiving & Christmas I bribe him to play what he's got. I love how he does the Black Crowes' She Talks to Angels. It's that intro that does it for me. BTW Bob & Tom have had Jill Sobule on as a guest, she's another freaky folkie, plays her own stuff but it's pretty simple as far as arrangements. I saw her on Conan one night. For example, look at Matchbox 20. I'm not a particular fan of theirs, but I do know they have a HUGE base. This is mostly because they flooded the radio stations with one single after another, often having 2 or 3 out at one time. (All of which remained at the top of the charts.) Sometimes waiting too long between singles creates an album flop, and (not in Jewel's case), one-hit wonders. I'm afraid this is perhaps going to be the fate of Dido. Her song "Thank You" has been on the radio for months, almost to a point that people can't stand it anymore. When she finally released her second single, "Hunter," it rarely got played on the radio. In my opinion, this is because "Thank You" was played too damn much, and "Hunter" came too far apart. (I guess you could call "Her With Me" a single, maybe?) Just my opinion!
