What do you fans think of the position of this way on bilboard album charts ?? what is her position. is it correct that stupid musicsinger b.spears entered as nr 1??? i hope not, because this is stupid produced music. jewel writes songs, knows how to play instruments and above all has a golden voice and entertaining abilities that nobody else has!! take care, michiel a dutch jewelfan Find the one for you at Yahoo! I can't tell if it's supposed to be positive or negative ... but oh well, people is a hack magazine anyway. When she isn't busy acting (1999's Ride with the Devil) or writing poetry (two popular collections), Jewel occasionally makes time for music. On This Way, her first album of entirely new material since 1998's Spirit, she trades in the high-gloss sheen of that overproduced disc and reverts to the rough-hewn musical and lyrical candor that moved more than 10 million copies of her '95 debut, Pieces of You. While she's surprisingly droll on the wry "Jesus Loves You" ("They say you're only half alive/ 'Till you give extra-whitening a try") and her weepy ballads shimmer as usual, she is at her neo-folkie best on the acoustic "Sometimes It Be That Way." Jewel recorded this album in Nashville, and it unbecomingly shows. Her earnest forays into country-rock, with their happy-go-twanginess, are just irritating. Bottom Line: Jewel gets her folk-us back ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Nov 2001 08:44:27 EST From: HMN333@aol.com Subject: [EDA] TW, My review Hi guys, I just thought I'd chip in with my own little review of the new album, for anyone who might still care to read :) Disclaimer: I am NOT a professional musician and/or music critic, just a fan who likes some music more than others, haha.. Ok, here goes: 1)Standing Still: Absolutely love it, though I'm worried it'll get overplayed and shelved in my house. But I really like it as the first single and it's one of those songs you can listen to in a variety of moods (like many Jewel songs, I think) 2)Jesus Loves You: I laughed the first time I heard this, in a good way. Don't have much else to say about it, just like it. 3)Everybody Needs Someone Sometime: I have to admit I was a little weary of listening it to it after it got the "line dancing" review, and I had to listen to it a few times to get that image out of my head, lol.. Don't really like the whole "sugar" thing in the middle, but that's me. I used to listen to country *gasp* back in like middle school (over 10 yrs ago) so I don't really mind the "twang" to it.. 4)Break me: I'm a sucker for love songs, especially this one. I prefer the acoustic version, but like someone said, it's great to have different versions! 5)DYWTP: Never could understand the words on my angelfood, i like the song but I don't think it'll get played that much (by me) 6)TWROOR: Maybe it's my old country-ish music taste coming through, but I can't listen to this w/o rodeo images (went to a few when i was little) Fav line "Amen, it's a beautiful life". 7)Serve the Ego: I have to agree with the orgasm reviews.. Didn't really understand the song until I had the lyrics in front of me. Love the beat, think it really brings out the best in the song. Sets a tone of its own.. 8)THIS WAY: I was surprised by some of the reviews of this song, like I said I'm a sucker for love songs (see #4) I think this song would do well as the next single, radioplay-wise, jmho.. My favorite song on the album, but not by far.. 9)Cleveland: With all the angelfood I have and the number of years I've been listening to her, I couldn't believe I had never heard this song before!! Love the "toes curl" -ing part.. 10)I won't walk away: I love how each song on the album stands out in its own way (no, I didn't just notice that, lol) But they each have their own style which is sooo cool, it's like there's a song to fit each of my moods or something, lol.. oh, the review.. um.. I like it! 11)LMJLMA: Got really excited when I heard this was going to be on the album. Absolutely love the scream, it's a kick ass song!! The beginning threw me off the first time I heard it and I was praying that she didn't sing the whole song that way, but now I like it. It's something different. I'd be upset if I paid $12 for a CD that was the same as the tapes I've had for years, know what I mean? 12)The New Wild West: Pretty much tied for my fav w/ This way... Some powerful lyrics there, and I love how the instruments keep building and building throughout the song.. I've listened to it the most so far because I hear new things in it each time.. 13)Grey Matter - Never really liked this song, until I heard it on the album and took the time to really listen... Must have been my angelfood, cuz it's great 14)SIBTW: One of my old angelfood favs.. glad to have it in CD form now.. Well, there's my less than 'deep' review of the album. All in all, I love it. The thing I like the most is that the older songs are different from what I already have. That and the fact that each song is unique in its own way.... Ok, I'm done :) Heather HMN333@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Nov 2001 09:01:48 -0800 From: Uri Cancio Subject: [EDA] re: NJC : Shakira on Leno wasn't she great?! Atlantic researched the problem that some people are experiencing and have put together a fix that users can access easily. The problem involves a file called the .dll file. The .dll file helps computers run certain types of screensavers. It appears that some computers that need the .dll, don't have it installed. To remedy this, you can go to the page below and download the file, install it and then try to install the screensaver. http://64.12.34.106/fix.html Give that a try. It should help in many cases. Anyone enjoying Jewel's new CD? Hint: Play it LOUD! "New Wild West" is even better with your walls vibrating. ;-) MrBB ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Nov 2001 10:15:42 -0600 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W." Subject: [EDA] NJC: Rich You noticed I used NJC... Well I wasn't aware there were any limitations on the number of posts allowed per day. And quite frankly, there are others who post far more than I do. Yet I don't say anything to them. There were times I'd see 10 posts from one person come in one day. I think it's just a matter of how much someone wants to say in a given day. There are times I'd go months without a single post. Literally 3-4 months. More than once. Just depends on the time I guess. I joked around to a couple people saying I was making up for lost time (a whole 11 days), but that's not really the case. With Jewel's new release having just come out though, along with the DVD, and several TV appearances, I think it's only natural that EDA's are going to have more to say around this time. I've seen increases in the number of posts in several EDA's these past few days. I really don't think I'm posting more than anyone else. You're just noticing mine for some reason more than some others I guess. And if you know lots of people feel the same way as you, then I find it fascinating that not a single one has written ME about it. :-) You'd think they'd do that being that I'm the one in question. Oh well...there's far more important things I'd rather spend my time trying to figure out. Have fun venting. Something else to think about....*I'm* not limiting the number of posts anyone else can write. So even if I wrote 5/day....if 30 other EDA's all wrote 15/day, then it would suddenly seem like I wasn't posting nearly as much. It's all about perspective.
