Probably not cos I haven't posted anything in almost 3 years but I was quite a prolific poster for awhile in the pre-Spirit days. Anyway, for those who don't know me I'm a 27yo guy from New Zealand. For those who do know me (eg. Stace, Louise, Jamie), Hi! :-) I just got my copy of "This Way" (it came out here on friday) and I've just finished listening to it for the first time so I thought I might as well post my review. First of all, I dunno if it's really what I was expecting - I was kinda half psyching myself up for another POY going by all the reviews I'd heard but it's not really anything like it (not that that's a bad thing). I like it better than "Spirit" though. I think it's kinda like how "Spirit" could have sounded like if she did what she did for the "Jupiter" single (which I always much preferred over the album version) to the whole "Spirit" album. Great to hear some of the classic stuff finally comitted to record, although it could take a bit of getting used to the new version of "Cleveland" (which used to be one of my absolute faves). Oh yeah, I'm so glad she left in the "battered" bit at the end of "Grey Matter" cos I've always loved that line and she seems to have a habit of leaving it out. I think maybe the album could've sounded a bit more consistant if she'd spread out the live tracks (which all sound great BTW) throughout the album (a la POY) instead of tacking them onto the end as "bonus" tracks. (What does that mean anyway? Is there actually some format you can get it on which *doesn't* include them?) Oh yeah, that rumour about various U2 members playing on the tracks, well that's all it was. A rumour. Well according to the "This Way" sleeve it's supposed to be enhanced but my CD-Rom drive (which has never had any problems recognising Enhanced CD's before) says it's just a standard audio CD. Actually forget that. It's now deciding to come up as an enhanced cd, after about the 3rd or 4th time in the drive. Weird - it originally said the total disc space was 500 and something megs but now it's showing the true size of 664 megs. Anyway, the enhanced bit has got almost like a promo video for "Break Me", with footage from the recording sessions as well as wallpapers and screensavers and stuff.
