It is only an update on my personal life. For all of you who replied to my last post about my family and I. Here is an update. I decided to let my Mom and my sisters work it out together. So I took my sister back home. My Mom called her school counselor, and he is going to set up weekly counseling sessions with her. I was hoping to be able to help more. But I guess what I did was show them that they needed help. She has been home for a day already. So hopefully things will work out. And I will keep asking them about their counseling. And just let them know that I care about what is going on. I really wish I could do more. But I guess that this isn't my fight. Not totally anyway. I have my own family now that I need to worry about. So I guess that's it for now. At least they all know that I love them and I will be here for them if they need me. Such a beautiful song and i know she would be lovely singing it. Also, i completely agree with her covering "It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)". A wonderful song that also would be her cup of tea. As far as movie actors, i think i'd like to see her in a movie with Kevin Spacey. He's one of my favorite actors and he also doesn't usually star in stupid movies. I want to see Jewel in a unique and amazing movie, not a generic comedy or something. As for the question: Lately i haven't been requesting Standing Still because i really don't like it very much and didn't want people to think of Jewel as "The girl who does Standing Still". I guess it's good if it gets people to buy the cd ... but it seems money isn't really a concern for Jewel and she's said herself she doesn't care if it doesn't do well. I'm buckling under today out of guilt and requesting it, but i was just curious if anyone else kind of wishes it won't get that popular (that's the question). ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 07 Nov 2001 01:13:31 -0800 From: "Jewel Fan" Subject: Re: [EDA] Standing Still on radio >>Jewel won't be played on alternative radio, because she isn't >>alternative.<< That's funny.. nothing but alternative radio stations here play Jewel. Only the Pop stations here in Australia would play Jewel. The alternative stations are playing Green Day, Blink 182 or Aussie bands like Powderfinger or Something for Kate. However, should you so choose, you can class "alternative" as anything that is not commercial. In Melbourne, you could therefore describe alternative as a community station like "NuCountry" (country and western) or "Melbourne Gospel Radio" (Christian music). Essentially..... rather than put up with the crap the stations deliver, stick with your local/community stations and have a say....... enough of my inane ramblings on..... regards Phil - ----- Original Message ----- From: Jewel Fan To: Sent: Wednesday, November 07, 2001 8:13 PM Subject: Re: [EDA] Standing Still on radio > >>Jewel won't be played on alternative radio, because she isn't > >>alternative.<< > > That's funny.. nothing but alternative radio stations here play Jewel. It seems there are many people on this list who want to see Atlantic succeed (by calling radio stations, TRL, etc.), but I personally feel it isn't our job to make them even richer than they already are. I think Jewel would probably be just as happy being on a smaller label at this point in her career and not have to worry about any of the dreadful promo work that makes her so tired. I saw the video actually. I was really disappointed. If i want to see another pretty face, I'll watch Britney or Christina. If i want something with deep substance I'll watch Jewel, right? Maybe not? I was hoping for lyics with a deeper meaning. I hear paper thin dribble. Her writing skills on this song doesn't even come close to POY. I doubt she'll ever be able to reach her old magic, on songs such as "Adrian". Jewel sounds way to relaxed on S.S.. I think if she's going to reach the public again. She'll have to do a something similar to Foolish Games or YWMFM. Or something faster, with a more up beat tempo like "Rocker Girl". If the whole album is going to be anything more like Standing Still. It'll be another flop like "Spirit" was. I definitely won't buy it. I'm going to treat this new album as if Jewel is a new artist, that I've never heard before. and depending on what songs I hear on the radio and TV. Will determine if i like the new material. I'm not just going to run out and buy the new album, blindly. I did that last time and that was a big mistake. In fact my copy of Spirit has only been played once and I will give it away to anybody who needs a copy. Let's hope Jewel has something better up her sleeve than S.S. But, lately all I have heard about is a future US tour. I know that some artists are cancelling their world tours because of everything going on since Sept 11, so i was wondering if Jewel did too. Anyone know? I'm going to be studying abroad this spring in Florence, Italy and would love to see her in Europe. So, if anyone knows email me back at gwjewelgrl@aol.com, and if anyone lives in Italy or is studying abroad/has studied there please feel free to email me too! *the mystic angel* Jordana "I'd rather see the world from another angle."-Jewel ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Nov 2001 11:01:25 -0700 From: "Scholastic Angel" <70030.225@compuserve.com> Subject: [EDA] Beck/Smith Hollywood Exclusive column: "Jewel Back In Action After Three Year Hiatus" ((More about Nedra than about Jewel. David, the Scholastic Angel)) http://portal.compuserve.com/gatewaynet/celeb/BeckSmith.asp?column=content/m ab20011107.htm Beck/Smith Hollywood Exclusive Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith Jewel Back In Action After Three Year Hiatus Pop singer Jewel is set to release her first album in three years this month. "She took a sabbatical," reports her mom and manager, Nedra Carroll. She adds that Jewel, who is also a best-selling author, had "worn herself out on the other albums and wanted to see if music was still her love. At the beginning of this year she began to get very excited about doing another album." She reports that Jewel will be doing press tours here and abroad, off and on through February -- then launch her world concert tour for the Atlantic "This Way" CD "in the U.S., probably in late March." Carroll is juggling Jewel's career and her duties as CEO and founder of The MANI Organization (a humanitarian effort that has become a multi-million dollar global concern), with the release of her new inspirational book, "The Architecture of All Abundance." It includes her unique take on attaining prosperity without foregoing humanitarian and spiritual values. In the tome, she shares how she overcame personal health problems and says doing so, "was cathartic and also healing. I had some fairly serious heart difficulties ... I initially worked with Western medicine, and we couldn't get it to respond. Then I began to look at holistic and alternative medicine, which became an interesting education and journey for me." The free-spirited Carroll's unusual approach to living has included such actions as suggesting, back in the early '90s, that Jewel quit her waitress job and move into her car -- to save on rent and allow Jewel to pursue her music full-time. Carroll then moved into her own VW van in a show of solidarity, parking next to Jewel. Their impoverished state led to Jewel's inability to get treatment for a kidney infection; the after-effects still bother her. Nedra, now known as a hard-headed negotiator, says, "When Jewel and I began to build her career it was to build a platform from which our humanitarian goals could go out."
