Just a mention that I heard Jewel playing on KIIS FM earlier today while I was driving my car. This is a good sign, it was an afternoon play so hopefully she'll find herself in heavy rotation soon. Or is it just a coincidence that some of my favorite singers and bands are coming out with CDs all this month? So far I'm getting between 1-3 CDs every Tuesday of this month. This month I'm going to be in CD heaven :) I'm off to the store now to get one right now!! cymbie tree hugger - -- when night falls it's dawn one must reach for. - -a. camus ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Nov 2001 21:08:43 -0600 From: "New World Warehouse" Subject: [EDA] RE:NJC Self Teachings Well I taught myself how to play guitar. I don't know how a lot of people do it, but I did it with Tablature. Basically Guitar Magazines come out every month with "tab" music in them. Usually of current hits with a few classic songs to add variety. Tab is very easy to read. There are six lines which stand for the six strings on the guitar and numbers which stand for the frets on the neck. Basically if you can count, you can read tab. So then I would listen to the song I wanted to learn and follow along with the sheet music. After awhile, you learn how to make the guitar sound certain ways (and learn chords). Now I do lead guitar in my band and write songs. It took about two years to really get to the point where I felt somewhat smooth with it, but for the most part after a few months, you start getting an idea. It helps to know someone who already plays to help explain the tough parts. If you have any questions about playing, let me know, I'll be glad to help. I'm currently teaching one of my friends trying to learn guitar as well. I've been playing now for about 11 years, so I'm ok...not really good with the theory part (regular sheet music, scales, etc.)...I mainly play by ear now. Oh and for the most part...I haven't seen the CD-ROMs or books do a lot of good until you've played for awhile. That's just personal experience. I used to work at a Guitar Center and sell that stuff. None of it seemed that good. LH www.coilback.com Date: Sun, 4 Nov 2001 23:00:50 -0500 From: "Amanda" Subject: [EDA] NJC self teachings Everyone keeps saying they taught themselves to play. Actually many artists claim to have taught themselves. But what i dont understand is how?? What exactly did you use/read/do to teach yourself? I tried to teach myself for about 3 months, and i didnt learn more than 1 chord. SO either im dumb, or other people are just smarter than me :) I tried those cdroms for teach yourself, i tried books, i tried taking a few lessons, just to get the basic idea... and i dont know what to do next. I think I get frustrated because my small fingers cant reach the strings for certain chords. Maybe i need a smaller guitar? i dont know. ANyone care to explain in detail how they learned? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 06 Nov 2001 16:03:29 +1100 From: "Lauren Bendeich" Subject: [EDA] Re: radio Hi angels!!! Will may have won a game by being a jerk, and $500 K would be nice, but it's not going to hold him for life. BB 2 was such a bomb aside from a couple episodes that even having the biggest following isn't going to create a career, and where is Will now? Aside from the one guest spot on a CBS show they were all promised the players have all vanished. Will also screwed himself by calling himself the biggest liar and most dishonest person on earth on national TV, which I heard is holding up his medical license. So Will is not a great example of bad guys finishing first. - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joe Eggleston" To: "EDAs" Sent: Tuesday, November 06, 2001 4:39 AM Subject: Re: [EDA] NJC: Big Brother 2/jerks > > Wooha! Think of it this way - all the stations who think that what is happening is "fishy" will brand it as fishy for sure if as soon as they send that email, all the requests stop - to them, it's confirmation that it was just an email campaign... so keep it up! If they continue to get requests for it to the same extent, they'll have to look past it being just an email campaign...and hopefully, by then, once it's gotten a good amount of airplay, it won't be just us requesting it anymore :) ~ Sandy - ----- Original Message ----- From: Fredsteve@aol.com To: jewel@smoe.org Sent: Tuesday, November 06, 2001 7:33 AM Subject: [EDA] radio requests <> ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Nov 2001 14:01:46 -0500 From: "cymbaline" Subject: Re: [EDA] November CDs No. Not Britney. The DJ said they didn't have it, the station manager didn't want to play it. Apparently "chick rock" isn't in right now. The DJ was cool, didn't say anything against Jewel, but it sucks that alternative stations don't want to play Jewel. I guess I'll have to wait until the album comes out, I can't listen to pop stations just to hear Jewel. I'd rather not hear her on the radio, than have to hear Britney and boy bands while waiting for Jewel. Still, it's disappointing. - -Kerri "But don't wander too far, my one constant star.
