Hi, I have made my help of submitting Jewel on promosquad. http://www.promosquad.com Promosquad is a big place where you can promote big artists, soon-to-be big artists and uknown artists on the Internet and get points where you can "buy" things with the points. Isn't it great? I really hope promosquad will put up her on the site so SS will be up on the charts and especially on Billboard Hot 100! */Marcus Ngo - -- Get your firstname@lastname email for FREE at http://Nameplanet.com/?su ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Nov 2001 04:29:32 EST From: SeanHooks@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Re: why would you want jewel played on pop radio In a message dated 11/5/01 1:06:53 AM Eastern Standard Time, fredsteve@aol.com writes: << I've thought about this as well - but it's beside the point. The point is we want This Way to be successful - and in order to achieve that Jewel needs to be played on mainstream pop stations, where the most people listen. >> Since when does being successful mean selling the most copies possible? How many copies do you think Springsteen's Nebraska sold? Yet many will argue that it's his best album. Few will argue that Born in the USA is his best. Was the Velvfet Underground played on pop radio? How bout Bob Dylan? The list goes on and on, there are scores of great albums throughout history that have sold relatively few copies. Success as an artist and sales figures do not go hand in hand, if anything there is probably an inverse relationship between the two, to an extent. For me a "successful" album is simply a good one. An album's commercial success should be of interest to that artist's record label, not fans like you and me, man. Then another baffling comment from you when you said: "In 20 years, when she has a huge fanbase... I won't care if she had radio hits or not. It's getting her to that stage." Twenty years? A huge fan base? What the hell are you talking about? Jewel has already PASSED her commercial apex. Basically nobody has their best selling album 20 years into their career(and don't throw Santana in my face, that's a once-in-a-clue-moon anomaly and that was based mostly on the fact that other, more commerical artists played on the album with him). And who the hell wants her to have a huge fan base? All that means is a very difficult time for Jewel the individual to have a private life; and even more difficult for us, the hardcore fanbase, to do things like get tickets to shows, which will be at huge, unintimate venues. A loyal fanbase is way more important than a large fan base. So again, stop judging success by how much someone sells. If the history of art and music has taught us anything it is that the two are mutually exclusive. Sure, sometimes a great album is really popular too. Pearl Jam's "Vs." for example. But for every "Vs." there's a Backstreet Boys album. And yeah, sure there's always a "Saving Private Ryan" or an American Beauty." But there's just as many "Independance Day"s and "Armageddon"s. For every Stephen King or John Irving there's a Danielle Steele. And on and on. So, again, I'm not saying that popularity automatically equates to bad art. What I'm say is why strive so hard for cheap popularity by being played on mainstream pop stations that care nothing about the quality of the music and are only filling an extremely narrow playlist with music they feel appeals to their demographic. Look at it this way, Z100 would not be playing "Standing Still" if Jewel wasn't young and pretty. So let's not support these corporate factories of commodified art/music by calling up and requesting that they play Jewel songs. Truth does not change because it is, or is not, believed by a majority of the people." - -Giordano Bruno ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 05 Nov 2001 01:35:20 -0800 From: "Jewel Fan" Subject: Re: [EDA] jewel song covers >>I know it sounds wierd but if I could pick a song to do a cover of a song >>it be any song by Nirvana. Actually many artists claim to have taught themselves. But what i dont understand is how?? What exactly did you use/read/do to teach yourself? I tried to teach myself for about 3 months, and i didnt learn more than 1 chord. SO either im dumb, or other people are just smarter than me :) I tried those cdroms for teach yourself, i tried books, i tried taking a few lessons, just to get the basic idea... and i dont know what to do next. I think I get frustrated because my small fingers cant reach the strings for certain chords. Maybe i need a smaller guitar? i dont know. I remember someone was going to start something that had to do with putting all the interviews together on one tape, etc. I don't think anyone ever got around to it. So here's what I propose. I have 3 very good sound quality interviews (that's including New Ground) on my computer in wav. format. So if anyone else has any... you can email them to me, I'll put them on CD and give them to everyone who pitched in an interview..etc. After that, we can start spreading to all the other EDAs. If you have any on your computers, please email me 1st! If you have any on tape, email me for details. The sooner I get responces, the sooner you guys can have your very own copies. Regardless of the quality, I'll do my best to remaster them. Thanks for your time! :) ~Jewel Fan~ http://www.angelfire.com/sk/killorgeteven (long story about the name of the URL. To all those doing the guitar rounds: I play guitar (self taught) Best thing to do is learn the 12 bar blues and you can then jam with anyone! also you will see people play some turnarounds (the fill in bits in blues) Some of these are really easy and you will pick up in no time! I also do a bit of busking and am planning to come to the USA and work east to west on busking cash! So if any of you wanna talk guitars, ask me anything, or anything you think i can help with, just ask. If i don't know, i WILL no someone who does! There are also other pictures regarding woodstock 99. It's a good quality book with 144 pages...tons of color pictures of people in movies and singers. This store has about 50 of these books.
