I personally don't know how he dose it. Someone mentioned the old chat rooms. I used to be Shallowen, I ran the #EDA room. I miss those days I missed the friends I had there, names that you almost never see on the list anymore , Farr, Tessa, Gianni, Leif, Dan,....... All these people where great friends, and I've traveled acrossed this country (and Canada) sleeping in there living rooms. I joined the list and a few short months later I was driving to Toronto with to people I met in the chats, and staying with another person I met on the chats. I also dread ever going back to those days. 2 people made my life running that channel hell. I was brought into the middle of every childish fight or argument. It was getting tot he point that the stress of it was affecting my health. One day I just left and never went back to the rooms. A little later they were gone totally. We have a wonderful thing with this list, the chat rooms where a small part of it for awhile. Thanks to Mike the list is still around. I don't know how he dose it, and I've told him that every time I've seen him. Every summer at Bearsville I'm amazed to her about the stuff that happens that none of us know about. We all should give Mike credit, we ask him to always be right in situations where there is no right or wrong. Trying to moderate a group of people this large is a nearly impossible and mostly thankless job. Every little action you take will piss off at least one person. What do you do for a living? Most execs deal with "shennanigans" all day from their employees, bosses, and partners. I think that it is quite repugnant that you have removed him from the list. What a great example of the "freedom" that you profess Jewel is all about. I've been a part, and still am a part, of many active lists that have rantings such as the ones here the last couple of days and have never seen a list owner get so incredibly stressed over such ridiculous petty things. You really personalize this too much, which is a fault, at least in my opinion. It seems that you either need assistance with this list, or need to step-down if it is indeed hindering your way of life, or your psyche so much. Regardless of what you claim Derrick has done in private, and regardless of what you think you are "catching" him in with this email (which you really seem to miss the point and read into the whole thing wrong), you should no t kick him off the list for simply having an opinion contrary to yours. You and this list has changed over the years, and for the worst, I must say. It's sad that you feel this list is such a weight on your shoulders....perhaps it would be wiser served to address the bigger picture rather than the single incidents. One upon a time Jewel was playing her guitar and then all of a sudden the strings turned into delicious taffy and she started eating them. Eventually, Jewel found out they were actually magic taffy and she was instantly in a deep sleep. When she woke up, she thought she was a fairy and began dancing, flinging the strings of her magic taffy guitar, and blowing bubbles everywhere. - -Jade *Tiny Angel* ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Nov 2001 21:16:03 -0500 From: "Scott" Subject: [EDA] NJC: Bye y'all Uh, so I don't really know why I'm writing this.. Maybe it's some consolation or closure to me since I've been an active list member so long.. But, yeah, I'm out of here.. It just kind of disappoints me that I used to look forward to getting emails from the Jewel list and being active in the discussions, and now I don't even read 80% of the emails.. I'm still a huge fan of Jewel (trust me, I wouldn't keep up Planet Jewel if I wasn't) and it feels like I should be on here because my appreciation of her is far from over and I've always associated this list with that love.. I remember joining this list a few years back after I had been a fan for some time, and being exhilarated meeting new people, getting angelfood, listening to the nice, calm conversations between list members and eventually being a part of said conversations.. I guess with the influx of larger and larger groups of people comes a good amount of adulteration of levels of fulfilling content.. It has dwindled down to where I barely read any of the emails except for the mails.. So, while it may seem like I'm making a rash decision because I opened my box to find (annoyingly) 300 ridiculous, unenriching, emails, I'm not.. It was just a catalyst for my nostalgia for the days past and disappointment in the recent times.. Unfortunately I'm just one of many EDAs of all sorts (old-timers who miss the old list, newbies who join and just see all this crap, etc.) who is unsubscribing. I've talked to 8 or 9 EDAs on IM who were quitting too (without this melodramatic goodbye letter).. 1 or 2 were because of the recent threads, but most were just because of general disappointment in the spirits of the list and lack of hope for the future of it.. So, yeah, I'm unsubscribing and just getting Jewel-News and JeweLink.. Maybe I'll join back in digest later on down the road if something happens or to see if the list has anything to offer then, but until then..... Oh yeah, another major reason I wrote was to ask that anyone I befriended over the years I've been on this list email me and keep in contact.. I enjoy the friendships I've made and I'll really miss you guys.. I love you all and hope to see you later! PS -- Many thanks to Mike.. I really appreciate all the time (and patience, and money, etc.) that you've put into this list.. Most of the people on here don't know how many long-distance bills you rack up and how much time you devote to keeping this list as good as it can possibly be while having so many people on it and keeping it's semi-official status and links to the Jewel team.. I really do appreciate it.. The same to Alan =) scott.evans [[mind is DISCONNECTED. but my heart is WIRED.]] AOL IM: sevans112 . Yahoo! Hey guys I wish all this huff would just STOP... can we not move onto something new? Anyway... Jewel said a few interesting things in the AOL chat. When they post the full transcript I'll most it here. A few interesting things she said: She talked about writing Til We Run Out of Road and how they wrote it as if it could be her on the road or something, even though it's about Ty's experience on the Rodeo trail, because Ty didn't want it to be a cheesy rodeo song... She said she auditioned for Moulin Rouge and is gonna try and do another movie over the summer! - she's just waiting to find the right script. She wants it to be smart and she doesn't wanna do a movie just for the sake of doing one. She said she likes Alicia Keys and David Gray. Here's the big one - she said she's gonna start touring the US in MARCH, and then move onto the rest of the world after that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She also said that she doesn't really read reviews, but that the president of her record company (I'm assuming this is Ron Shapiro) called her yesterday and read her the Rolling Stone review, which he was INCREDIBLY excited about. She said she was of course thrilled also. She said that he wanted to go home and just read it over and over again. Other than that it was the same boring questions that we've heard before over and over again. She also asked everyone to call their pop stations and request standing still - - and with good reason. Unfortunately the song is stalling and did NOT debut on the Billboard Hot 100 yet (although it's still #1 on the bubbling under chart). It is VERY close to peaking (which means it'll start losing spins soon) on these charts... and if that happens she'll be done for - the song will be a flop. Although it increased slightly in airplay, she dropped from 39 to 40 on the Top 40 Mainstream chart and is not gaining like she was last week! So I think instead of discussing Derrek endlessly we should PICK UP THE PHONE and CALL OUR RADIO STATIONS. Get them to play Standing Still!!! If you call enough, they will do it. That's what happened with Who Will Save Your Soul. And it's US that can make it happen. We can make this song a huge hit... if we each call our local stations once a day, the song will probably end up as a great success! As it is now, she's gonna have to rely on the media exposure of the next few weeks to hopefully boost her airplay. so CALL. this record deserves to do well, and if we can get her airplay, it probably will!
