I have seen over the 5 years that I have been on this list, Derrick's ranting about some minuet thing or another about Jewel(on TV or in concert) that wasn't worth the effort to write. I have no intentions of fighting or arguing or brining up LONG lost posts from the smoe database to back my statements. Moderated or unModerated, the harassments still occur mostly off the radar of the list(privately). I haven't been sent any emails by Derrick - -maybe until now-. I have seen the results of Derrick privately emailing people on the list and I've gotten sick and tired of it. Slamming Sheila and Ciaras' age was just pathetic. Still over analyzing a post has always been your cup of tea. Mike is a very patient guy and has had to deal with alot of personalities over the years. For him to post a message that singles out Derrick in a negative view, I would think has pushed him beyond the breaking point. Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Press have their good and their bad. I think those freedoms get perverted by everyone from time to time. I am tired of looking at the results of hurt feelings and anger twards one another on this list. I argued nicely with him that people change and change it's good. A few quick comments on the recent distressing Jewel list digests: 1) Mike Connell bends over backwards to a RIDICULOUS degree for the subscribers to this list. For five years, I have repeatedly told Mike that he should treat himself better and not waste so much time trying to accomodate people who want nothing more than to bitch, argue and piss off as many fellow listers as possible. When you are in someone's house (and this list is Mike's house as he runs it), you treat them with respect or get the hell out. You simply cannot comprehend the amount of time Mike gives to each of us to run this list and take care of other EDAs "behind the scenes". There have been many bizarre situations that Mike has spent weeks following up on, and yes, they include legal investigations. Mike deserves respect, not bullshit. A mock court between Mr. Connell and a mouthy wise-ass Derrick, even in jest? I think not. Case closed. 2) I have personally met Derrick, and spent several days traveling with him down in Texas during Jewel's last major tour. While Derrick is not necessarily a bad person, he is an extremely NEGATIVE person. He's happiest when things are in upheaval. PERIOD. Derrick posts to create angst and arguments. He can find a new home on ANY newsgroup on the internet, likely as their new resident TROLL. The attacks on September 11th changed a lot of attitudes in this country. Starting shit for the hell of it (and some warped, narcissistic need to inflict pain on others) is no longer socially acceptable. It is selfish, ignorant and destructive. And those three words don't seem to describe neither a typical Jewel fan nor an EveryDay Angel, in my book. 3) Derrick's whining and bitching cost the EDA attendees the opportunity meet to Jewel one-on-one at the Nashville private recording. (That's my informed opinion.) I cautioned Derrick about what he was doing as he did it, and he couldn't have given a rat's ass less BECAUSE HE WASN'T GOING, AND HE WASN'T GOING TO LOSE ANYTHING. So he kept up the incessant bitching, and set the tone that the EDAs weren't mature enough (and generally too ungrateful) to be trusted with a meet-and-greet. Very sad, as the EDA audience was exceptional and deserved better. Too bad Derrick set them up for failure, just to amuse himself. 4) In this life, you are part of the problem or part of the solution. On this list, Derrick is a major problem who enjoys ripping apart the list, and ridiculing strangers. Regardless of what the Ciara/Sheila reality is, Derrick has been a manipulative pr*ck toward her/them. The solution? Mike should bounce Derrick off the list NOW. Derrick won't change, and there are MANY of us in this group who facilitate Jewel/EDA events who are sick of wasting our time with his negative, self-serving bullshit. I shudder to think of how the list archives look to a stranger, with all the negativity and anger, more often than not traceable back to Derrick. If Derrick is allowed to continue to "shit where WE eat", Mike then assumes part of the responsibility. Subscription to this list isn't a god-given right, it is a privilege (and one that can be revoked for acting in a destructive or inappropriate manner). Please just do it Mike, so we can enjoy this list for it's intended purpose. None of us signed up for the "Derrick's Daily Disturbance" mailing list. *** PLEASE NOTE: The comments I have made here are NOT based solely on simple anecdotal observations of Derrick's posts, but actual conversations and events with other EDAs and folks involved with the various Jewel groups. I've been around since 1996, met over 1500 from this list, and have been personally involved with a majority of the wonderful events that have occured over the years. I truly love the concept of what "everyday angels" stand for, and hate to see people use it as cheap troll bait. And remember, if you must use sarcasm or humor as a weapon, weild it on YOURSELF first. That's what I have done since 1996 with the whole "Harris Brothers" nonsense. Don't smugly attack others and attempt to create a mob atmosphere where you can sit back and watch the mayhem. That is so morally feeble.
