Keeping in mind I never saw the initial post that Ciara's mother replied to.... > Could you please explain what you mean by "write like that?" SHE did write > that post. No one here is trying to fool anyone. besides, simply, what would be the point? what kind of satisfaction would anyone get out of pretending to be a 7 year old girl who loves someone's music? if you can't find a motive behind something, there's usually a reason - in this case, the reason being that no one would have any reason to pretend such a thing... it's not like a usual "troll", where it's clear what is being done and for what reason.... that the troll get's the attention they crave, by pissing people off etc.... > Just because you are a > elementary school teacher does not give you knowledge of my daughters > writing ability. She does alot of writing. and on that note, I sincerely doubt that it's being faked, not only for lack of reason, but because I myself was a very advanced youngster, and wrote extremely well by that age - some kids are better able to form their thoughts and convert them into writing, for whatever reason. It's no different than a kid being very skilled at say, basketball, at that age - some kids progress faster in certain areas, perhaps their parents spend more time on those area's, or they are genetically dispositioned, but for whatever reason, it's entirely possible - there are child "geniuses" that have graduated college before they should have even entered highschool.... so how it is so hard then to believe that a 7 year old could be so articulant? personally, I think your daughter is a doll, and her post had me smiling all day long, she was so sweet and sincere - I wished I could just give her a big ol' bear hug after reading it :) and I think you should allow her to post more often :) ~ Sandy ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Oct 2001 20:15:39 -0400 From: "Shannon Mackie" Subject: [EDA] Standing Still Video Does anybody know where I can watch the Standing Still video online? Hey So....I was driving home from work, and out of boredom I called from my cell Y-100 (south FL) , ring ring ring...fiinally they pick up , and I ask if the have the new Jewel single, "yes we do, do you want to hear her?" , "sure " I said.."Thanks" Y-100 , the most pop of the pop stations (God if they were any more pop, they'll be a Coke,ok?) I said, whatever, they're not going to play it...so before going home I stopped at the supermarket...when I'm in line the lady in front of me tells me, "you only have one item? go ahead.." I was like..hello..that doesn't happen anymore..thanks! (coincidence? NO, destiny.! ....:) so I go to my car and I dropped my toilet bowl cleanser on the floor along with my jaw when "Standing Still" was playing half way done ..I got so happy and I was like..what? no way..I cranked it up and I looked like a crazy Metallica fan (which I am) and a couple of people stared at me... and I was like...yeah!@! rock on! So... instead of staying quiet I got home and in my best 16 yr old miami beach girl voice caracterization I called back (squeeking) "Hi, can you please tell me who was that just on? she sounded so familiar..that song is awesome!..who was that?? "Oh, that was Jewel" the DJ said..."Jewel? oh my God...she kicks ass..can you play it again for me tiger? " Sure, but not right now, next hour for sure"" haha!! tell Jewel I want comission,... We really are nice and kind people and it makes me happy to know that her post made someone smile. Ciara makes me smile everyday. She is a very good little girl. Just very well behaved and most of all she is kind to others. She is not a genius or anything like that but she is a very focused child on all that she does. This may be good or it may be bad, i really don't know. She is a perfectionist and alot of the time, the last one to finish her work at school. She is not as hurried as i might like her to be. She received a certificate in the 1st grade for perfect attendance...she never missed one day of school the whole year. She is very musical and loves to sing. There are not many places for her to sing but when she does, she gets standing ovations most of the time. I have been told by an opera singer/teacher at our local Institute of Music that she has a god given talent with her voice. I have been told that she has raw talent. I also have been told that girls voices change 6 to 7 times by the time you reach age 26/27, boys voices change once. Jewel is the 1st singer Ciara ever paid any attention to other than Barney and Mickey Mouse. Actually, Martina McBrides x-mas album was the only other real singer she ever heard before she discovered Jewel. She had just turned 5 when she first saw a picture of Jewel and her guitar. She wanted to know who that girl was and what was that thing in her hands (guitar). She told me, "i think that girl has a pretty face." I didn't know who Jewel was at that time, i had never heard of her. I told Ciara, that girl must be a singer and that thing in her hands is a guitar and tried my best to explain that to her. I am not musical or talented in any way at all. But my daughter is and i do all i can to support her. She brings alot of enjoyment to her family, friends and others who know her. She is in her 3rd year of ballet/tap, 1st year of jazz dance, 3rd year in drama school. She is taking piano and guitar lessons as of recently and her teacher told me that it is amazing how she can learn by ear and remember her teachings. She doesn't practice her piano and guitar as much as she should because she is mostly writing something or drawing pictures. She is not pushed but she is supported well by all her family. Someday she will get to meet some eda's at a Jewel concert somewhere. I'm sure you will find all i say is true. I am not trying to fool anyone. She is alittle quiet and alittle shy to talk to. But talking about Jewel, she has alot to say. Everyday i check my email but happened to be out of town back in July when Mr. BB was offering a chance for some eda's to meet Jewel in Tenessee. I was in Tenessee with Ciara as she was awarded a certificate for a free studio recording of her own. We were only gone less than 1 week but it was too late for me to get in on the Jewel recording in Tenessee. She begs for me to let her meet Jewel. I will not miss the next chance if their ever is one. She is trying on her own to learn to yodel and she loves opera singing , especially Jewel's. At first i was real hesitant to allow her to become so involved over Jewel (or any singer) but soon realized all the good that Jewel's singing, poetry and life stories were bringing to Ciara and the whole family, musically and more. Because of Jewel, Ciara has learned that she has her own interest to sing, she became interested in reading poetry and now writing her own, writes her own journal at least 3 days a week, writes one story each week for school, has learned some about Alaska, eskimoes, airplanes and lightning storms, tries to write songs. At night in bed she either listens to a Jewel CD or audio poetry. I decided that i will be proud that my daughter is so inspired by someone like Jewel. I believe Ciara will be an eda for years to come if given the chance. I believe Jewel is a keeper in her heart and i support her. Sorry for this email but i had to set the story straight. Now i hope everyone can see how hard she has worked and that she did write that post yesterday. Please don't yell at me for this email...i promise i will never do it again this long. Really i never do post but the couple times i have, i've been yelled at. I thought Ciara's letters contained something all of us should inspire to achieve in a great excitement and joy in getting something new from Jewel and also showing the inspiration Jewel has given her when she talked about singing "Star Spangled Banner", she reminds me of my two cousins around the same age, but they're into Pop and stuff, I'm trying to convert them, but it's tough going :) it just makes me wish I was 7 again. Ciara, I'll make the trip all the way from AUS to come to your party when it's on :) anyways angels, enough of my rambling, I'm going to lunch... take care Daniel "There is a paradise that can be found... She listens to country and Jewel, that's about it. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Oct 2001 23:44:13 -0400 From: "Sheila56" Subject: [EDA] EDA re: Ciara age 7 She does know about Patsy Cline. She really likes LeAnn Rimes and one of her favorite songs to sing is Cowboy Sweetheart and I Will Always Love You. Many country songs are not appropriate for her to sing...you know those songs about boots under the bed and such. Her song list is short. She memorizes all her songs. Here is her short list: One Voice, Star Spangled Banner, Amazing Grace, Tomorrow (annie movie), Hands and the other two i mentioned. She is working on "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" and trying hard to sing it in the style Jewel sings it. She knows all Jewels songs by heart except for that song with the word faggot (i don't let her hear that song). She sounds great when she sings along with Jewel's voice, sounds alot like Jewel but when she tries without Jewels voice, she does not sound so good. Thanks again, Sheila. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Oct 2001 23:50:46 -0400 From: "Sheila56" Subject: [EDA] eda re: Ciara age 7 Thanks to all of you, Kelly, Daniel and Don.
