Jewel's brother Shane, and the team members working there, thought the EDAs would enjoy knowing what's been going on lately. Shane asked that I pass on this message to you. MrBB Greetings EDAs, Tibet was phenomenal! We got an amazing amount of work done in a very short amount of time. Everyone from the villages of Zingma and Gangchen, including people from the Gangchen monastery, turned out in droves to help with this community project. In all, about eight miles of trench were dug (by hand). Over six miles of galvanized steel pipe, and about two miles of HDP (plastic) pipe were laid. The community built an impoundment enclosure (a small dam) to house the water treatment and hydro generation equipment, a giant stone-block clean water storage tank, the foundation for an even larger irrigation water storage tank, about twelve community tap stands, and all the necessary piping for an impressive irrigation system! We also stocked the small, contaminated pond that had previously supplied much of the communities drinking water, with carp. The carp is an incredible fish that is capable of surviving almost anywhere. The carp will eat the parasites and clean the pond! This is probably one of the most comprehensive projects that the Clearwater Project has ever been involved with and the impact that it is having on the community is nothing short of transformational. It was staggering to be there and to see first hand exactly what this project means to them. We are already receiving testimonials of improved health, and the project is not even complete yet! A team will be returning to Tibet soon to finish the project. In addition to community planning and education, they will oversee the completion of the irrigation system which will allow the community to grow a wide variety of food and raise a cash crop for the maintenance of the system. The team will also finalize the installation of the hydropower unit and the ultraviolet sanitization units. I can't wait to see how these communities change and continue to grow. I'll keep you updated as the project progresses. But there are others that could surprise us all, like: - - rosy & mick - - stephenville - - angel needs a ride - - shadows play Now, about that thing of being sad because your favorite Jewel song is gonna be on the CD, and everybody you listen to it, I think we shouldn't be sad at all! We must be happy, because that way everybody will be able to love that song either, and not just us (it's kinda selfishness, don't ya think?). I LOVE Cowboy Waltz, it's one of my favorite songs ever, and I would be SO happy if it got into the CD!!!!!!!!! Just my 2 cents (hehe, I'd never heard this expression before I got into this list...). I have to agree that $100 was way to much to pay for a single, but if Jewel delivered it and went out to dinner with me I'd pay alot more. Heck dinner with Jewel is worth the $100, alot more most likely. I'm sure Louise could manage to tell this story a hell of a lot better, and hopefully she will but here it goes. Two EDA's dream finally came true Tuesday afternoon, thanks to Michigan's own Q95.5...... Louise, who I just met through the EDA list, and I find out Jewel is coming to Michigan for a radio tour on Tues, Sept 25, and we could not have been more excited. We decide to drive down to the studio at 7 am to try and meet Jewel. We arrive, bribing the DJ's with donuts only to find Jewel is not there and she might not come because her plane was delayed or something. The DJ's were all really nice and they gave us a tour of the studio and took our cell phone numbers to call us if they heard anything. Not knowing if they would ever call, we left and headed for 96.3 and 93.1 the other two scheduled Jewel stops in Michigan. After over an hour and a half of waiting for someone to come talk to us at the other two stations, we find out that Jewel will not be there till after 3 and they might not even let us meet her. We decide to leave and head back for Q95 and wait for her there. As we pull into the parking lot, my cell phone goes off and one of the DJ's says Jewel will be there at 12:30 but I'm not supposed to know that. We come back at 11am just in case Jewel is early. We didn't want to miss our chance. We go inside and wait in the small lobby. The program director came out and said that he has to check with Jewel's record company to make sure that it is ok if we stay. He saw that I had brought my guitar (which happens to be Jewel's signature model) and says regardless of what they say, he'll get Jewel to sign my guitar. He comes back a few minutes later and says we're good but lays down a couple rules, which all sounded good to me. We weren't allowed to come up to Jewel when she first walked in the door, which believe me was so hard not to do, I mean she was right there. It was also up to Jewel whether we could sit in on her performance or not. He asked to borrow my guitar for a sound check and said he would try and get Jewel to play it, instead of hers for her performance. I couldn't believe what was happening. So a little after 12:30 Jewel comes strolling in, looking just like Jewel! We had to restrain ourselves at this point not to get out of our chairs. She goes in for the interview, which they allowed us to watch through the glass, but we couldn't hear anything. Afterwards we see her leave and go into another room, where I presume she was going to play a song. At this point we figured Jewel didn't want us to watch, but then the director said to follow him, we're cool to watch. So we walk down this narrow hallway and Jewel walks right past us and says something along the lines of "I'll be right back, I'm going to urinate girls!" Oh my god!!! Jewel was talking to us! I couldn't believe it. Then we go and enter this little room with about 6 other people. As we wait for Jewel, one of the DJ's Spike, spills wax from a candle all over her really expensive looking purse. He was freaking out because he didn't know how to tell Jewel when she returned. Jewel actually did a really good job of remaining cool and not getting mad, I was really impressed, especially when she pointed out that her boyfriend, Ty, had made the purse for her. After they got her purse cleaned up, she started to play hands. She was literally 3 feet in front of us. We got a private performance, with only like 8 people. It was the coolest thing that has ever happened to me. Shivers ran through my body. It was the most amazing thing. After her performance, one of the DJ's asks her to sign my guitar. She bends down to sign it and looks right at me and asks if she should address it to anyone. I'm speechless at that point because here I am, Jewel talking to me. Luckily, Louise said yes, and I barely managed to get my name, Adina out. It sounded more like Aaaa...Ddddd.....Iiiii....Nnnn...Aaa..... Jewel starts drawing a picture all over it. It looked amazing. (She drew it upside down, but I didn't have the heart to tell her, who cares anyway, this is Jewel, she can do whatever she wants to my guitar) Then we had her sign some of our CDs and we went back to the lobby to take some pictures. I give Jewel the gift I had brought for her, a little wooden blond angel figure with a guitar inside a blue guitar tin. She seemed to like it a lot. At least I hope she did. She was so nice to us. She's actually a lot smaller than she looks on TV and in pictures, I didn't expect her to be so short. She told us we were well behaved, I'm assuming because we were in too much shock to manage to say anything and we were warned not to bombard her when she walked in the door. Then it was her time to leave, and we watched her hop back into her car with the people she was with and drive away.......sniff...sniff..... This was the best day of my life. Jewel was everything I had pictured her to be. I had waited four years to be able to meet her, and it was well worth the wait. This all seems so surreal to me now, but I have the pictures to prove it. I keep trying to wake myself up from this dream, only to find it actually happened. Anyway if anyone made it this far down, sorry I kinda rambled on a little, I hope you all have a chance like this! If anyone wants to see the pics of us with Jewel and one of my guitar email me privately. I'm forever grateful to the people at Q95.5. - ----Adina (the Butterfly Angel) {\o/} /_\ ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
