Just trying to make sure. My last one was much longer and, um, eloquent :( All I have today is that I heard the new "Hands" with the voices from z100.com and though it was nicely done I think I prefer the Woodstock (I think it was woodstock) live version. There's my 2 cents. Anyone catch Jill Sobule on Conan Monday night? I like her, though my favorite tune of hers will never appear on network TV or radio; it's entitled, "Don't Fuck With Me," and for some reason dj's never seem to get the joke when I try to request it. Sigh.... U2 coming to the ACC! South Bend!! Wahoo! (I live between So Bend and Chicago, shouts to any and all Angels out my way) Been waiting 15 years, now I just need to get tickets. Argh. Finally saw the cover art everyone's been talking about. Like the colors, actually, but not much else. There again is my 2 cents. Enough of my opinion! PS--catch me on AIM as SmallCrossEnigma, always glad to make new friends! Later, Joseph the coal-black-haloed angel with copper dust on his tongue :) Wahoo! Jewel is coming to Houston tomorrow for a Party on the Patio with 104KRBE in Houston. The radio station held contests and the winners were invited to go to the party. I had been unsuccessful until this morning when I finally got through. Luckily, I did not have to participate in a silly contest where they go through several callers with no winners.. Instead, I had Jewel talk with Sam Malone and The Morning Show.. They actually wanted to talk more about me than I wanted.. I told them I was the biggest Jewel Fan Ever.. so they wanted to know just how big "I" was.. (Weight, Height, If I work out, etc..) Sam went on to kid me about how small I am and its not fair that I don't have to work out, etc.. It was embarrassing.. but all fun anyways.. Sam wanted to know just how big of a Jewel Fan I was and if I had met her.. So I told tell them about my trip to Paris, France in August.. and how I flew back early all the way from Paris to Nashville in one day just to attend Jewel's private recording session.. They got a kick out of that and did a lot of jokes and stuff about me hiding in the luggage on the plane to get to Nashville.. They asked me if I would marry her.. and I told them I loved her a lot but she's pretty happy with her boyfriend Ty.. We talked about him being a rodeo cowboy and they made some jokes about that I could take him on because he is even smaller than me... Then Sam did this Football Announcer sketch with the NFL promo music in the back ground building up the opposition of me and Ty... It was kewl... There was so much going on I can't remember it all... but the good news is they invited me to attend the Party on the Patio with Jewel.. I am so excited!!! I'm taking my camera and I'll be sure to let you guys know how it all went... Till tomorrow, Matt ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Sep 2001 16:51:23 From: "Gerry Lipnowski" Subject: [EDA] NJC Oh Susanna on TV in Canada Hi folks. This message is directed primarily to EDA's living in Canada. As you know from Mr. BB's recent message, a tremendously compelling performer named Oh Susanna is the latest guest artist to be featured at Jewel's web site. Well, Suzie has her first full length TV concert being broadcast tonight, September 26, on Canada's national CMT network at 8:00 pm. (Sorry, as far as I know, it's not being broadcast on the US CMT.) I'm sure Mr. BB would agree with me in strongly encouraging those who have the opportunity to catch the show. Suzie is a superb composer and singer, and well worth checking out. Even though it was in Brazilian (or whatever language...excuse my ignorance) I kind of got the gist of the email.. So I went to check the Alanis site, and sure enough...November 13. What do you guys think will result of this? Personally, I think Alanis is gonna be left in the dust.. I haven't even really heard anything about her new album.. And while I was one of the rare ones who loved Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie, it's sudden drop-off was even more severe than Spirit's.. So no real press for Alanis' new disc right now, but Jewel is getting great buzz.. She's on TRL and the late-night shows already, and This Way was at as high as #150 on Amazon just on the strength on pre-sales two months before the release.. Standing Still is playing on my local station, which NEVER plays new songs.. So who will turn out the album sales winner? Jewel or Alanis? And who is the father of Diane's baby? Alanis ? The Ultimate Fight ? Don't think so. So Jewel's and Alanis album are coming out the same day, is there a problem ? or an important subject ? or an ultimate fight we will see on Celebrity deathmatch ? That's far away from happening. I do respect any other opinion (I strongly believe everyone is entitled to one), and therefore I'm allowed to have one to. 1. Alanis it's a whole different target than Jewel, I still consider Jewel gospel, or soft pop, Jewel won't in any shape nor form represent (IN MY EYES) soft-rock. So really, the competition between there is just not a good point where to start. 2. Jewel have a huge list of fans, Alanis do aswell (and believe me I saw that in her concert here in Caracas, Venezuela. where I thought that I was going to be the only one, I couldn't been more mistaken, and in this (Sad to say) third world country, that makes a difference...because language wasn't a barrier at all, you could see people everywhere singing the songs - -some trying to-. They're both excellent artists, with an incredible ammount of talent. Jewel more directed to expressing what she feels about a million things, Alanis used to do it just to release some anger and some pressure out of her live. But nonetheless in an excellent way. 3.I can cut my hands if Alanis new record doesn't sell well...it's just hard to believe, given the fact that her Unplugged was a huge sucess...at least in Latin America...I raved about it, and I still do. And for more I consider Jewel to be my fave artist (I have to say her Unplugged sucked, comparing it to the Alanis one). 4. I deeply hope both records do well, because they both deserved it, they had worked very hard to be in the stat they're...so what's the point of putting them in some sort of mental fight to see who does better. 5. Again, MY OPINION...my two cents like you people say :) No hate emails please, I'm just expressing a point, with facts within my knowledge of the artist and selling records in latinamerica. Thanks, Antonio. P.S: And tho Jewel's taking more coverage in the media now, It's sad to say she haven't reach that much people here in latinamerica, but Alanis did touring it. A reason why I started loosing some kind of faith with Jewel. She concentrated to much in becoming popular, and only touring the big fishes, like USA and Europe...where is the 30% of world left? Just in a CD. I have 6 years being a fan of Jewel and I've never seen her live...why? I wish I knew. It's just that times and bad decisions corrupts the love you feel for an artist. But oh well, I will survive...and I'm still hopeful to see her one day, and scream and the top of my lungs "PLEASEEEEEEEEEE I CAME FROM LATINAMERICA, SING FOOLISH GAMES FOR ME", since after that day, i will diw with no regrets (in case it happens) hehehe. It's a very detailed, very well-updated website. It has a RealAudio version of Standing Still (for all those who haven't heard it).. and it also has detailed statistics about specific radio airplay. I thought I was share with you guys the information that they have on the single, and how it's been doing. Bear in mind they don't give ALL the radio play info for all the different formats.. just the top few songs.. Standing Still has been showing up consistently in the Modern Adult and Adult Top 40 Sections of the chart. MODERN ADULT: Standing Still is playing on 12 stations (this number has been going up everyday) out of a possible 45 stations. Between Sept. the 19th and Sept. the 25th it had 117 spins on those 12 stations. The #1 song in Modern Adult generally gets about 1000-2000 spins a week. So for a debut week, Standing Still did very well. ADULT TOP 40: Standing Still is playing on 22 stations out of a possible 82 stations. It's had 129 spins on those 22 stations this week, and the top song usually gets around 3000 spins a week. So again, good. Now.. some of the Adult Top 40 Stations are the same as the Modern Adult Stations, but Adult Top 40 also includes Adult Contemporary. I know this is kind of confusing.. but yeah. Also, in the Adult Top 40/Modern Adult/Adult Contemporary sub-section of the website Standing Still was registered at the hottest pick for the top radio programmers around the country.... meaning that more radio programmers around the country picked her song as opposed to the other new songs. I'll keep you guys posted on this. Soon she'll start showing up on the Mainstream Top 40 charts, so I'll let you know more when that happens. I made a strong debut last week, #5 on pop charts, #1 on country. Please go buy it I promise all of you that you'll love it!! Hey Angels, Well, Jewel just finished her Star Lounge interview/performance here in L.A. She was great as always! I heard a female EDA on the radio talking to her. Thanks for representing and voicing yourself to Jewel. (E-mail me, I'd like to talk to you). As for myself, I was also on the radio. They had the female callers first and then switched to the male callers. I was the 2nd or 3rd guy up on the "mic". I asked her if any of the songs from the Nashville Recording Session were going to make it to the new CD. I was a little excited at the time so the names have escaped me at this moment. ;) Anyways, they are 2 songs that are pretty well heard among the EDAs, so nothing rare like Jesus Loves Me or Break Me. Maybe someone can fill that part in if it isn't already known. But... before I asked that question, I commented on the fact that some guys who love Jewel are suspected of being homosexual. I just wanted to make that little comment, but being the DJs that they are, they expanded on that. LOL Everyone was just having a hilarious time and laughing. Even Jewel commented on just telling my friends that I like her because of her big tits! LOL I was laughing so hard, because sometimes I do that to get them off my back. Ryan Seacreast (one of the DJs) worked her on that, and Jewel started asking for some help from the other DJ, Lisa. Poor Jewel. LOL One little comment on her tits and Ryan jumps all over the topic. Even right now as I write this, he's still going on and on about tits. Anyways, what an experience. I loved talking directly to Jewel, because she's an inspiration to me even after 5 years of listening to her. Hey I had to write a message just to talk about all the cool stuff I heard about the new album today!!! First of all - the songs from Nashville? Did you expect Break Me? Does Anyone Believe in Love? Well THINK AGAIN!!!! THE TWO SONGS RECORDED IN NASHVILLE THAT MADE IT ONTO THE ALBUM ARE: GREY MATTER SOMETIMES IT BE THAT WAY How MUCH does that ROCK? I was SO surprised by that! She has also discussed the album on these various shows. She told Rick Dees that this is the first album she's made a record that she's actually really proud of. Also that most of the songs were recorded with a live band. For all those who don't know, a lot of the time when artists record albums they record many of the different instruments separately, ESPECIALLY the vocal track. That most certainly happened on Spirit (you can tell just by the way it sounds). With the new record, however, Jewel says most of the tracks were recorded as if they were playing live, with the vocal tracks being live as well.... that is EXTREMELY unusual. Most artists spend a lot of time recording and re-recording the vocal track in a booth until it's absolutely perfect... but Jewel's voice is better live - so she just performed live. She also said they didn't really worry about tweaking things too much.. it's quite raw. She also revealed that the album has 14 tracks on it. Anyway - I"M EXCITED!
