I think it's very catchy song that will probably do very well on the radio. But the main difference between Hands and Standing Still is that Hands was more synthesizers than actual musical instruments (a theme that ran throughout spirit - ruining a lot of songs that are otherwise good songs - ie Innocence Maintained)... anyway.. Standing Still is more instruments than Synthesizers. I'm sure there's keyboards somewhere... but the songs is mainly made up of just musical instruments.. which is really an improvement from Hands. I was just watching the beginning of the NFL game on my local CBS affiliate and they had Jon Bon Jovi singing "America The Beautiful" live on a downtown New York City street accompanied by his band and a chorus that included, among others, members of the NYC Police and Fire departments. I had a hunch and I then clicked to the Fox affiliate and the same live performance by Jon Bon Jovi was taking place. It was what I was expecting, as seconds before the Jon Bon Jovi performance, NY Governor George Pataki gave a live message about football and America that was also shown on both affiliates. Looks like Fox and CBS and the NFL teamed up with those patriotic salutes. It was kewel, if you ask me. It then got me thinking of how I would absolutely love to hear Jewel sing that song. It has always by far been my absolute favorite United States patriotic song....it's the only one that has brought a tear to my eye every single time I have heard it sung. (on a tangential note, if you heard *me* sing it, you'd cry too...but for different reasons ;-) Too bad Jewel wasn't on that telethon Friday night. While it was great that they had Willie Nelson singing it for the finale (along with about four dozen stars lightly mouthing it behind him, Willie was the only one really singing it loudly at all....well, Mariah came through a bit).....I'd had loved to see Jewel next to him drowning him out :-) Maybe I'll request it should I ever see her in concert again. :-) Mike P.S. Speaking of that telethon, it don't get any better than Neil Young singing John Lennons' "Imagine" , IMO ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Sep 2001 10:55:55 -0700 From: "Eric" Subject: Re: [EDA] NJC: name that song! Hey Big Z, The first lyric is from a Fleetwood Mac song Stevie Nicks sings called "Landslide." There are the lyrics: I took my love, I took it down Climbed a mountain and I turned around I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills 'Till the landslide brought me down Oh, mirror in the sky What is love Can the child within my heart rise above Can I sail through the changing ocean tides Can I handle the seasons of my life Well, I've been afraid of changing 'Cause I've built my life around you But time makes you get bolder Even children get older And I'm getting older too Oh, take my love, take it down Climb a mountain and turn around If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills Well the landslide will bring it down If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills Well the landslide will bring it down. The second set of lyrics are from are from the song "Flamenco" by Tragically Hip. And these are the complete lyrics: Does it diminish your super-capacity to love Walk like a matador, don't be chicken-shit and turn breezes into rivulets flamenco-sweep the air and weave the sun and stamp your feet for everyone Does it exhibit your natural tendency to hate Maybe a prostitute could teach you how to take a compliment maybe I'll go to New York, I'll drag you there you said, "no one drags me anywhere" Does it diminish your super-capacity to love Enjoy, Eric ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Sep 2001 14:50:51 -0400 From: shawn e williams Subject: [EDA] This Way icon Hi! does anyone know how to make icons? i was thinking maybe someone could make one so we can put the cover of This Way as a icon. so we can help advertise it. love ya, shawney the hippie angel "I've been saving myself my whole life for some mother fucker like you to come along!"
