Well, from my preliminary research, it appears that the big four networks are the brains behind this, which makes since if you look at the artists involved - they all seem to come from labels owned by the networks. Now, Mike would know more about who owns the label that Jewel is on and whether they have network affiliations, and if so, are any of that networks artists featured in the confirmed list. I have emailed my contacts in hopes of finding out who spearheaded the whole thing. Usually, there is one person who came up with the idea and then presented it through their contacts to make it come to fruition. If we're really lucky, we'll get a direct response as to how it was organized, and how the participants were contacted, as I have requested that information directly. So... I thought we could try something different. Now I KNOW we've done this many times before, but I thought it might be good to do it again, to remind ourselves why we're on this list! Let's share our TOP 10 FAVOURITE Jewel songs of all time. Here are mine, in no particular order 1. Amen 2. Nicotine Love 3. Do You 4. Jesus Loves You 5. Sometimes it be that way 6. Absence of Fear 7. Grey Matter 8. New Wild West 9. Love Me Just Leave Me Alone 10. Barcelona (live - the way she sings the chorus...) later Steve ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Sep 2001 02:40:50 From: "Rowdy White" Subject: Re: [EDA] Fave Songs In no order: 1. Whats the big deal how the telethon is set up, and who is going to be on it (or who is not going to be on it?) Does it really matter? Why focus so much on whether Jewel was on it or not? Or even why she wasn't included? is the fccat she wasn't, so much of a big deal that you have to contact people to find out how its set up, and what determines who performs? There were 2 hours, and the 2 hours were filled with great artists. Remember... they cant include everyone. They're plenty of people who weren't included. Not just Jewel. I enjoyed it even though Jewel wasn't on. I could care less if she was on it or not. I saw the list of performers before hand, and didn't expect her to be on, but i watched it anyway, Because it was all about great musicians coming together for a good cause. It seems sort of silly to be worrying about whether Jewel will be making a TV appearance for the telethon, in all seriousness that has been going on. Like I said, I didn't expect Jewel to be on, I watched it anyway, and I enjoyed it. In fact, I about peed my pants when I saw Dave Matthews. I'm so in love with him. U2 was great, so were the Dixie Chicks. I don't know about you, but I loved Neil Young. There were so many great performaces I wished I had taped it. Especially Dave.... I love him. Bono too. cymbie tree hugger - -- when night falls it's dawn one must reach for. - -a. camus ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Sep 2001 23:51:07 EDT From: EastAngelEDA@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] Well, I wrote to Letterman In a message dated 9/21/01 11:17:37 AM Eastern Daylight Time, KristieBiggs@bankunited.com writes: > You also completely disregarded the fact that she has a new album coming out > on November 13th. Actually, Letterman did mention the album coming out in November I believe...anybody else recall this? Didn't mention the name though, which was kinda shitty. Probably didnt' even know, like Kristie said, didn't take the time to find out. Just a correction : "fact that" not fccat...(in case you were wondering what the hell i meant) i was typing faster than my computer was going. and it sort of became a weird combo of the 2 words. cymbie tree hugger - -- when night falls it's dawn one must reach for. - -a. camus ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Sep 2001 00:01:59 EDT From: EastAngelEDA@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] letterman All right, let's not get FACTS confused with OPINIONS here. This is a list for people with a common interest in Jewel, and you know what? The last 3 years would've been damn boring if we only talked about Jewel, cuz she didn't do much. Sean, me, and everyone else who has opinions states them as that. I certainly don't state them as facts. I don't say "Jewel IS the best singer in the world," I'd say "I THINK Jewel is the best singer in the world." Opinions and facts are two different things, and I THINK you constantly and consistently get them confused. I also THINK you have a problem with Sean personally, and you should take it up with him or you'll keep getting the negative posts, and in MY OPINION you start them yourself and bring them on yourself. You can't expect people to reply positively to your posts like this past one, it just isn't gonna happen chica. Hey all Usually i find out about these jewel performances till too late but i was lucky this time! I hadnt checked my email in a week until yesterday and saw that jewel was on letterman last night... so i watched it while recording it as well as TRL today which i also loved! It took me some thinking and talking to people just to figure out how mountain time works on tv here in Utah but i did. I think she purposely made the words in Hands more profound to comply with the tragedy. Very nice. Wish i heard one of her new songs though... but it was very appropriate to not start selling her album this early and of course during a tragedy.
