BUT! i think that we dont need to say things like "i think ____ is jewels worst song" or anything to that extent. things like that can really hurt someones feelings! jewel is the kind of musician who doesnt just right a song and you hear it and just dance around... a lot of her songs really hit people deep... possibly even save their life to a certain degree, or completely for that matter. so when you put down a song, your putting down a life or a personality. i know that if someone said that ywmfm was jewels worst song and tons of people were agreeing with that, i would be very hurt, cus that song introduced me to jewel, who saved me and recreated me!! sooooooooooo my point is that a song is never just a song, especially one of jewels songs, especially to a lot of people on this list. so be kind... cus in the end only kindness matter...hehehehe I LOVE HANDS!!! alisa - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Sep 2001 06:02:26 +0000 From: "now and zen girl" Subject: [EDA] this weeks pics well, just one word about the pics this week, i wish they would put up some new pics as well, but those pics are from the now and zen concert in san fransisco which i was in the very front and center row of just feet from jewel... so when i see those old pics of her wearing the wonderful rodeo whore shirt written in silver puffy paint... i get suuuuuuuuupppperrrr happy!!! oh and if you look at the pic of just doug and you see the girl in the front row with her hands near her face like shes yelling, with the corny brown fishing hat next to the boy in the blue shirt and next to the girl on her left who is yelling too.... well thats me, the one in the lame hat, i dont really look like me in that picture, but thats me and the boy is my brother and the girl is the girl who tried to fight me for dougs guitar pick, well, i won.... of course that was 2 years ago this september 26..... oooohh just like a week!! cool. now and zen girl........ heheh do you get the name now?? im now and zen girl cus thats what the jmerch guys, michael and cuck, know me as... soooooo now and zen girl - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Sep 2001 06:05:23 +0000 From: "now and zen girl" Subject: [EDA] standing still boy im on a roll tonight..... this is my 3rd post! well i just was wondering if anyone knows if standing still is in stores anywhere yet? and if anyone is recording the radio shows... cus then you guys who do can work with eachother and put them together and make one really cool jewel item... just an idea! soooooooooo how does standing still sound everyone whos heard it??!!!! alisa - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Sep 2001 01:25:20 -0500 From: "LH" Subject: RE: [EDA] South vs. North Yeah, I've noticed that as well that the only thing we get in Texas before everyone else is country music (go figure). When I lived in California I noticed that I would talk about songs to my friends back in Texas and they would be like "what are you talking about". From what I know in Dallas though, most of the stations here are oldies or Tejano. There's only one rock station left and a lot of rap/r&b. I guess maybe we aren't a big slice of the market, so we aren't priority. Matrix Date: Tue, 18 Sep 2001 10:03:21 -0500 From: "Kristie Biggs" Subject: [EDA] South vs. North No I'm not discussing war...I just have a theory that music gets released earlier in the North and in California than it does here in the south. I've gotten lots of tips about good songs that are being played on local radio stations from different people in different parts of the US over the years, and 2 or 3 weeks later the song becomes a huge hit on our radio stations down here. (Here being Houston, but I think this rule applies for most of the south) Does anyone else find this to be true? Just curious. Kristie ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Sep 2001 23:29:53 -0700 (PDT) From: Christy Subject: [EDA] Jewel Ultimatum If this is accurate, that is pretty stupid. POY went Platinum. I don't know about Spirit, but she's made a lot of money for her record company. And, it's only been 2 years since her last album. Some artists take twice that. Poe didn't have an album out for almost 5 years when she finally released Haunted. In the 80's, when Aerosmith was super-druggy, they didn't release an album for almost 10 years. If I was Jewel and they did boot me out, I would say good riddance and find a company that respected me more... Christy the Tattoed angel < Subject: RE: [EDA] South vs. North I think it depends more on the type or style of music. For example, I know of alot of songs over the years that were being played here (TX), and people in the midwest, and some eastern areas never even heard of the songs. I've even seen some examples *within* TX. My sister in San Antonio said she's noticed the alternative rock station there will be playing some songs at least a week or two before it makes it to Houston radio play. I really don't think there's much pattern to it all, but since NY and CA are predominantly music-oriented states, with many of the major music companies located in either of the two, it could be why it seems that many songs do get considered for radio play in those states slightly ahead of a place like Wisconsin, for example. Also, I was never a fan of "hands" either. In light of recent events though-- it has a new meaning to me. It seems like a good song to describe how so many americans are doing something even though individually our hands are small. Also these lines seem appropriate too: - --I won't be made useless, I won't be idle with despair, I'll govern myself around my faith cuz light is the darkness worst fear -- I know these aren't the exact words but you get mt drift... - -- heartache came to visit me but I knew it wasn't ever after. - -- We will FIGHT not out of spite, but some one must stand up for whats right (this especially So while I think that "hands is definitely not Jewel's best work-- it is incredibly appropriate right now. I am glad that they chose to use a Jewel song, even if it isn't her best. Other singles that she has released wouldn't make sense. Anyway that's my 2 cents : ) - -- Chrissy ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Sep 2001 08:06:28 -0400 From: "David & Beth" Subject: [EDA] Missed Jewel on PLJ I can't believe we just missed Jewel on PLJ by one second. When I was in NYC last year Dido's "Thank You" was just coming out as a single, but it was almost six months later before I heard it here in West Texas. But then again, here in Abilene I've noticed that we're about two-three months behind even Dallas when it comes to Alt or Rock. We too only have one real rock station. Four Country, three oldies (one classic rock, two general oldies) three pop, one of which is geared a bit more towards rap, but is about a month behind MTV, and three months behind the rest of the civilzied world. One NPR, and to finish three Christain stations. Here it seems the country stations are pretty up to date, but the pop and rock (which also is our Alt station) really are behind. I have to just laugh when they debut something here that I heard in Ft Worth three months before. But then again, I guess it does go back to population. Abilene only has 110,000 people. ;-) Rowdy >From: "Karacostas, Derrick W." >To: "'Kristie'" >CC: "'jewel@smoe.org'" >Subject: RE: [EDA] South vs. North >Date: Tue, 18 Sep 2001 16:32:08 - -0500 > >I think it depends more on the type or style of music.
