I think your last sentence is something many list members seem to overlook at times. - -----Original Message----- From: shell To: jewel@smoe.org Sent: 9/2/01 11:29 PM Subject: [EDA] NJC stop it I agree wholeheartedly here. I think that a great deal of you that are saying she's talentless are forgetting the point that she does have talent. She can dance *really* well. Your opinion of her voice does not affect whether or not she can learn to play guitar. I'm certainly not a fan of hers... I don't own any of her albums, no singles, no posters or otherwise any Britney memorabelia. Nor do I think her voice is all that amazing... but, she does deserve respect. I don't think that we are the correct people to be saying she won't be any good at guitar, and certainly shouldn't be hoping that a string will break and she'll get booed. Think about it. At her concerts, those are a ton of fans that probably paid their soul's worth to be there. I *highly* doubt they'd boo her because a string broke. I don't think anyone here should judge her until they've been there. I haven't heard of any one of us doing a billion sold out shows a year to tens of thousands of people, learning dances for a new tour, constantly being in the public eye and then trying to learn guitar at the same time. From what I've seen, none of us here are doing that. So when one of yall gets your butt up there, sells out each and every one of your concerts to like 25,000 people and, has a diamond album before you turn 21, I think then that person can say "Yeah, Britney sucks" Till then, please try to remember that it's your opinion, and it's possible to add a little more tact to your messages. There's a time and place for everything. It was one thing she wore that outfit going in, but the Oscars are a time honored event with a lot of history. Bjork should have recognized that and changed into something more appropriate when she performed onstage. She just plain made herself look ridiculous Marshall ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 03 Sep 2001 12:14:10 +0000 From: "Small Kat" Subject: [EDA] Re: sexy songs hey! ummm...i believe that in the song "lady marmalade" that cymbie was referring to, it translates to "do you want to sing with me tonight" and not "do you want to sleep with me tonight". at least, that's what my friends who took french told me when i asked them what it meant...just my 2 cents... ~liz Sorry liz, but you are wrong. I'm sure someone will have answered this by the time it gets through....but... "Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir" means "do you want to sleep with me this evening". Our bi-annual beach cleanup will be held on September 15 at our adopted beach - the South Amboy Waterfront in NJ. This time we have been asked to also look for little plastic pellets as part of a study for the Center for Marine Conservation. From what I understand, the plastics industry wants to get some general information about how well their pellet recovery procedures are working and if there is evidence of pellets getting into the environment. They are a problem for birds because the pellets look like food and the birds eat them. I'll have samples at the cleanup so we know what we're looking for! After the cleanup, we'll go for lunch at Big Ed's BBQ and then figure out what everyone would like to do (movie? Funmania? Laser tag?). It will be a fun and relaxing day, so come on out if you're in the area! Please email me at w1ggy2@aol.com if you're interested in attending. I'll be posting directions and further information. Apologies for the late notice on this - it kind of snuck up on me this time! :-) Amy ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Sep 2001 07:19:02 -0700 (PDT) From: Kris Kelley Subject: [EDA] Does anyone have..... I thought I'd venture away from the whole Brittney discussion and go back to the Moulin Rouge issue. Yes, the song means "Will you sleep with me tonight?" and yes Moulin Rouge translates to "red windmill". Whoever said that whole thing about a stripper club from the 1800's was correct, but it was more than a strip club. It was a club for "gentlemen" to find hookers. There was a Moulin Rouge movie made in the 1950's, and then obviously another one this year. It was not a remake of the old movie, b/c it was a totally different story. I never saw the original, but the new one was awesome. I saw it 4 times in the theater. Nicole Kidman plays Satine, the "star" dancer/hooker of the Moulin Rouge. Ewan McGregor (oooh he is hot in this movie!) plays a British writer, Christian, who ends up writing a play that will star Satine and make her a "real actress". Then there is a play within the movie, and the two plots reflect each other. Of course, there are other characters, many conflicts, and twists in the plot. This movie was casted brilliantly, it made me laugh until I was crying, it made me cry until I was laughing, and the music/dancing is awesome. Who knew Nicole Kidman could sing? I'd really encourage you to rent it when it comes out. Sorry to be so un-Jewel like. Can't wait for This Way.
