For those that were not there (or didn't stick around), Jewel walked outside the front door of the place along with Ty after the show. If you look at Angela's pics, you basically see her leaving the place, then standing there with Ty for a sec, then getting in the car. Basically, she came out, said "thanks for coming out" to everyone. Stood there for a sec with Ty to give people a chance to take a few shots and then said, "I'm really hungry, we need to go get dinner, thanks again" and left for the car. It was only a few minutes, but it's more than many artists would have done (even putting on the private concert while still feeling crappy is more than most would have done). A lot of artist, just sneak out the back. Out of all the celebrities I have met, I'd say the two people that seem the most dedicated to their fans are Jewel and Shirley Manson (of Garbage)...Shirley was gonna skip a soundcheck one time just to finish off an autograph line at a Blockbuster. I was lucky enough to sit behind her and get to chat with her the whole time, so I know how it went down first hand. More celebrities should really stop and think sometimes that the fans are what put them there. They don't have to sacrifice their whole personal life or anything, but it's little things like this that make a big difference to people. Either way...there's the story AND my soapbox....you are free to go. Matrix aka Lewis aka Louis....not Louisa and no, my guitar is Black. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Aug 2001 01:21:33 -0700 From: "Elizabeth Nguyen" Subject: Re: [EDA] "new" song options Derrick said: If Jewel said her CD is already complete, even before she finished the show Sunday night, then where are the songs from that show going to end up? Since it *was* recorded, right? I was under the impression that some were going to be ON the new CD...but I guess that isn't the case. Are they thinking about potential single B- sides? Maybe a whole separate "live" release, like she did with the Sessions/Joy CD/video? It raises many questions. I really thought they were going to be using some of this recently recorded material for the new CD. Maybe a hidden track? I guess there are several options. I'd be a little surprised if Louisa is on the new CD, but less surprised if the version she did Sunday night appears as a hidden track or B-side, possibly. I don't think it would be out of the question to see an older song, already released before, appear as a live version on the new CD, or a b-side. Something like Race Car Driver, for example. _______________________________________ Well, Derrick, I don't think we should take what Jewel said completely as the truth. She might just mean that she's done with the studio recordings and that with the addition of the songs she recorded at the live session, it will be complete. We must remember that this is the same Jewel who mixes and matches her song stories. So which song was written for the guy who harrassed her when she hitchhiked and got a ride for him? "Racecar Driver" or "God's Gift to Women"? And which song is about breaking up and she's not bitter about? "Carnivore" or "Gray Matter"? I heard her use the same stories for multiple songs ... but the point is, she says a lot of things that aren't exactly true, but in essence it is the truth. I think she just meant the album is pretty much finalized and she knows what songs are on the CD. And there's a set date for release and such. ~Elizabeth, the tennis-ball-whacking angel Thus conscience does make cowards of us all; And thus the native hue of resolution Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought - Shakespeare, "Hamlet" Perfect for the Jewel Kilcher Fan! Hey Everyone!! I was just talkiing to a friend of mine about our LivingRoom Concert (LRC) on Sat Aug 18th and I realized it was just over a week away! Where does the time go? He was asking me what was the difference between a LRC and any other concert (ie: why should he go). While the answer seemed so obvious to me (as I had attended and hosted so many), I realized that many of my SoCal EDA friends haven't been to a LRC before and might be wondering the same thing. An LRC is the ultimate (IMO) in the way of an intimate concert experience. It's a private concert with the most attentive/courteous of audiences and a meet&greet all rolled into one. Imagine attending a concert series where you can sit on a couch or stretch out on the floor, sit inches away from the stage, and enjoy the candor of a performer not confined by the need to conform to/please a commercial setting. That is the barest essence of the EDA LRC experience as LRC's are also the best way to meet your fellow EDAs and catch up with old friends. Also, often in SoCal our LRC's are for good causes, as when we have our Project Warmth LRC (where admission is a warm piece of clothing/blanket to be donated to the needy) or as with the Aug 18th LRC where all proceeds will be donated to the EveryDay Angels Foundation (the EveryDay Angels own charitable works organization). For these reasons (and many more that you can only discover on your own), I invite you all to the LRC with all of the welcome the Vierling family has to offer. Everyone is welcome to attend (but please rsvp) and bring as many friends as they like. In fact, those of you who would like to stay the night and head down to SD with the gang for the Alaska Festival/Jewel show, you are more than welcome to do so. Bring your sleeping bags and a pillow and I'll even promise to provide a free continental breakfast (or there is a Denny's right up the road...not to mention an actual llama farm) ;) Having said that here are the details again... Sat August 18th in Lake Elsinore CA (right off the 15fwy a lil less than an hour from OC and SD) BBQ up to 8pm, music from 8pm-? LRC with Sweet Duration (www.sweetduration.com) to benefit the EDA Foundation (www.edaf.org) More musical guests TBA! (nothing like the last minute!) Howdy ya'll, First of all, I can't wait for a reunion for Nashbash...I had a great time. I apologize for lurking at the Nashville event; I was a little out of place in the city and a little stoned ;) After the show, some of us went to Sunset Grill (I thought for sure those two cops there were after me) where Dennis was threatening to start juggling knives. Being from the country, I couldn't make sense of the menu, and didn't have the slightest idea what I was ordering...so I got something with the word chicken in it. DENNIS, WHAT DID YOU HAVE? IT LOOKED GREAT! I'll have that next time. Also, all that was on my hotel TV that night was rodeo, which me and my guest Jennifer watched for a while...she's stuck on rodeos and cowboys now, LOL. Also, she says that the EDA's are the most complete fan club she's ever heard of. Although this isn't a fan club, it's something more...kinda like a family. In fact, I am very happy to see all these things happening...Jewel and the EDA's, the EDAF, HGH, and Clearwater Project. This has grown far beyond the ideas and beliefs of one young woman...it's become something of an army...armed with faith.
