["LH" ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 7 Aug 2001 22:19:00 EDT From: W1GGY2@aol.com Subject: [EDA] NASHVILLE and the BAD OMEN I hate to be the one to make this earth-shattering announcement, but there were absolutely NO LLAMA SIGHTINGS in Nashville! In fact, I am unable to remember the llast time there was a llama sighting at an EDA gathering. Unfortunately, this bad omen can mean only one of two things: either the world is coming to an end OR that real short hairstyle with the lone braid or "tail" is coming back into fashion! Either way, prepare yourselves for the worst! :-) Anyway, I've gotten many requests for details about the Nashville gatherings, so here goes. First of all it seems everyone down there (including Mr. BB) agreed that Chris Moynihan's 18-word name for the event was the best one. Unfortunately, no one remembers what it was. I arrived Saturday evening and checked into the lovely Days Inn and met up with Chris, Dennis & Carol, Katie and Sarah. We went to a place called Demo's, home of Liquid Sugar for dinner along with Tammy, Erica the great Puddini and her friend Katie. Dennis' bus driver had told him Demo's was the best restaraunt in town and well, it was pretty good, though I suspect the bus driver's brother may be part owner or something. After dinner we wanted to go clubbing, so after the usual 45 minutes of standing-on-a-street-corner-discussing-the-plan, we headed to Graham Central Station, a 3 floor club with an Elvis impersonator outside and a DJ dressed like Roy Orbison inside in the disco room dubbed Bellbottoms. It was here that we spent a couple hours dancing to Le Freak, Funkytown, and - well, you get the idea. There were even go-go cages and a booth that's backlit so you can only see the sillhouette of the person dancing inside. Pretty cool, but none of us dared it. The rooftop was pretty cool too, with a nice view of the river and of the Bell South building, which we dubbed the Batman Building. Sunday morning, those of us at the beautiful Days Inn had a mouth-watering (not) continental breakfast consisting of cold cereal, mini muffins, and sticky buns and later 7 of us squeezed into Sarah's Mercedes with no air conditioning to go to the Riverfront park where the EDA gathering was held. I am happy to report that there were at least 30 people there - many faces I hadn't seen in years such as Larry, Gerry, Andrea, Courtney and many I had never met but had emailed with over the years. Somebody had mistakenly ordered an extra hot day (bastards!) so we may have been less bubbly and exuberant than usual, but we did have fun roping Woody, roping Dennis, watching Chris and Dennis try and rope each other, paying homage to Erica's yellow hat-in-the-tree and other similar diversions. Eventually, about half the group left to go eat (the other half had brought food to the park) and the rest of us went back to our rooms (at the exquisite Days Inn) to change for the show. When we got to the very turquoise colored venue, there was already a line of about 20 people. The sun was still beating down so Dennis had the idea to write everyone's name down in order so they could go stand on the other side of the street where it was shadier without losing their place. Of course, the way Dennis chats with EVERYONE he meets, by the time he made it to the end of the line, there was only about another 20 minutes of sun left! Standing in line was fun, though, and everyone was really friendly and got to know each other. The film crew was out there getting footage of us and a woman was interviewing individuals about their favorite Jewel song, how long they've been on the list, etc. Dennis gave out free EDAF t-shirts and guitar picks. Just before we were let inside, we were given free bottles of cold water by Mr. BB & crew, which was extremely nice and much appreciated. The show itself has already been covered pretty well, I think, so I won't get too into that. Someone posted the other day asking if the title "This Way" was the actual title or a rumor - Jewel herself said that was to be the title. She didn't explain the meaning or anything, unfortunately. Also, as far as the sound of the new songs, they ranged from very slow to rocking and some were slightly country but good (I'm not a country fan and I liked them all). I got the feeling when she made the remark about her label worrying she was going to release a country album that she actually wasn't going to, but it was a little unclear the way she phrased it so I guess we'll have to wait and see. I looooved the New Wild West song - that could definitely be a hit and I hope it gets released as a single. The highlight for me was definitely Unsung in Your Eyes. I've been hoping for that song to resurface for years as some of you know, so I made Dennis request it (me being too shy). Jewel asked him to repeat the request and then to my amazement she started playing it. Of course, she couldn't remember the words, but....oh well, it's a start! After the show, we again did the usual stand-around-for-two-hours-trying-to-make-a-plan thing. Apparantly, Sunday night after 10 is not a big eating time in Nashville, so we had to rely on the locals (Erica & Katie & Kara?) to figure out where to go for a late dinner. A lot of people had to leave directly after the show, but those who stayed ended up splitting up, half going to SATCO and half to the Sunset Grill. I was in the Sunset Grill group (there were about 11 of us) and what we didn't know was that they closed at 11:00. We arrived at about 10:45 but they were kind enough to let us in anyway. We had an absolutely delicious meal, after which we lost a few more people and the remainder went to Andrea & Mel's room at the splendiforous Days Inn to continue our silliness. For some strange reason, I heard the phrase "Dennis, you're mean, get out of my room" about 25 times (but he just wouldn't go!!). Finally, we all got tired and went back to our rooms and that was that. A great time was had, but still, there were NO FREAKIN' LLAMAS! Does anyone know if it is possible to play a karaoke cd on the computer, and sing with it in the mic and record that on the computer like an mp3? lol does that make sense? 2. I know there was a second EDA cover tape in the works... what happened to it, and why wasn't it finished? Thanks for your help! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Aug 2001 21:08:34 -0700 (PDT) From: Lee Garner Subject: [EDA] Nashbash... Howdy ya'll, Just wanted to say sorry for not being more outgoing...I really needed a vacation. I mostly stayed inside during the daylight hours with my guest, Jennifer, cause I am a night person, and she was lazy. Anyways, I had a great time. I wanted to meet up with more people, but 1) I was shy (not really) 2) I was rather stoned (LOL) 3) I like sitting outside the crowd...observations. This was the best concert I've been to, though I've been to a lot. This was the only concert, however, where I didn't raise hell...how the hell did I restrain myself? I enjoyed meeting everyone that I did meet, and I'll definitely be at the Reunions. Lee Garner Confederate (Angel of Dixie) Make international calls for as low as $.04/minute with Yahoo! Okay, let's see what I can do for these questions.... Date: Tue, 07 Aug 2001 18:59:13 +0000 From: "Charles Gregory" Subject: [EDA] PLEASE EVERYONE READ THIS! I NEED ALL THE HELP I CAN GET! Hey Angels, I just got the Carolyn... Also, for those of you who went to Jewel's concert. Can any of you tell me what her new songs were like. I mean are they kinda rockier or are they slow or more countryish? I just wanna know how it is all going. I am getting so excited for the new album. >>> Okay, well they were pretty much typical Jewel. Nothing has really changed. If I had to compare, I'd have to say that they favor her sound from POY more than Spirit, but then again, it was just her with an acoustic guitar NOT a full band and that could have had something to do with it. Another thing, back a while ago someone said Jewel was going to have a new song on a cd with various artists. Well I just wanna know when is taht going to be released and what is it called???? PLEASE HELP me on these questions!!! Thanks angels! >>> Can't help you on this one...no clue Charlie PS. In the pics on Jewels ...???? ALSO is there any news on when Jewel's first song will be released on the radio, or first single? >> Can't help on this one either Does anyone know what song that will be? >> See above If her cd is complete then why does it have to wait until nov 13th to be released??? >>> Even being an unsigned artist, I've worked as an intern for a local record company. A lot goes into MAKING an album than just recording. They have to work on layout, design, foreign versions, promotional material, and sometimes even the singles are determined before the album is released (ever notice the little sticker they put on a lot of them and how they seem to already have the songs listed that are being released). Also, they actually have to take orders from the stores and PRINT all the copies of the album (and sometimes the first single). So once the recording is done, there is still a lot left. I'm sure the process is a little different depending on artist and company, but it's most likely similar. PLEASE HELP ME WITH MY QUESTIONS I JUST HAVE TOO MANY. even if you just know the answer to one, please write me and let me know anyways-- THANKS SO MCUH GUYS! LOVE YA ALL!!!!!! ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V6 #330 ***************************
