Ok, so I live in New Orleans but I have a friend in Gulfport, MS. who says that there is a poster on the highway saying that Jewel is coming to one of the big casinos out there. He talked to the entertainment Manger and he said yes she is coming but there is not a set date yet, sometime after the summer he thinks. Anyone know anything about this? Is Jewel playing there? Its either Beluxe or Gulfport. Anyone with info let me know. Maybe my friend is just full of crap but if she comes that would be great too!Oh I remember its at the Beau Rivage I am not sure if I spelled that right. How amusing. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 5 Aug 2001 17:33:43 -0400 From: "Scott" Subject: [EDA] NJC: WOW! Lemme tell you guys about how much fun I had at the radio station concert I went to in Raleigh.. All I have to say is, wow. So we got there and figured out we had lawn seats, but it was cool.. After all, we were on Five For Fighting's guest list so we didn't pay for anything.. So, yeah, here's my day.. I'm going to talk about all the acts, but my day got much more exciting a few acts in.. We got there in the middle of Wil Seabrook's set on the side stage.. This side stage was tiny.. I know, I know.. Side stages are supposed to be small.. But with some of the acts performing on it (Michelle Branch, Dexter Freebish, Evan & Jaron), I thought it would be bigger.. Anyway, back to Wil.. He was good, but we got there and had to get situated and go to the bathroom and stuff, so I only watched a couple of his songs.. What I heard was very nice, so I suggest you all go with me and check out http://www.wilseabrook.com with me to find out more.. His stuff is a mix of light, Shawn Mullins-y stuff, and harder (though not HARD) rock.. We ran up to the front of the lawn to check out Sarah Harmer.. She was good, a guitar-based Sarah Mclachlan.. She also reminded me of Jonatha Brooke, one of my favorites.. It was good stuff, I just wasn't in the mood, so we left early and walked around a little bit.. http://www.sarahharmer.com for more info.. Next on the side stage was Trickside.. We weren't familiar with them, so we didn't rush to see them or anything.. I was very pleasantly surprised.. These guys ROCKED.. Their sound was kinda like Third Eye Blind, but a lot more fun.. They kept the crowd pumped.. Very, very good band.. I'm going to check them out further.. http://www.trickside.com Okay, so next up was the band that invited us, Five For Fighting.. 5FF is really just one guy who does everything and musicians which I think aren't permanent.. John Ondrasek writes and sings everything and plays the guitar and piano.. His voice is really distinct and the set was awesome.. We were groovin on the lawn...lol. You might know his song, "Superman".. It's gaining some ground at Top 40 radio.. I highly recommend his latest CD, America Town.. I like every single song on it.. It's just one of those CDs.. And he's really nice.. As evidenced by him putting us on the guest list.. Definitely give him a listen.. http://www.fiveforfighting.com Next is where my day kicked into high gear.. Michelle Branch, the girlie we discussed on this list, was on the side stage.. We ran there from Five For Fighting and got to the stage right as she came on.. We came up from the side and got really close up.. In fact, I'm pretty mad because the security guard looked really mean so I was scared to take any pics (there was a no camera policy for the festival), but I figured out later that he really didn't care.. Michelle ROCKED the place.. She writes her own stuff, and she kills the guitar.. She has a really promising future.. Her single, "Everywhere," is blowing up all over the place, so I'm betting she'll be huge really soon.. Awesome set, I was really close, and she kept looking at me ;-) ...Afterward, we ran up to the side gate and I talked to her for a minute.. I told her I wished she had played "Goodbye To You," and she looked in genuine shock that I knew the song (her first major-label CD isn't out yet) and she was really happy.. So I got her to autograph my ticket and started walking away, but my friend reminded me that I had a camera...lol. So we went back in line at the gate and my friend got her ticket signed and I was like "Yeah, so it's me again.. My friend reminded me there's a photo op" or something like that.. So she laughed and we got a woman to take a picture of the three of us.. I was on a high from that meeting for the rest of the day.. Michelle also promised to play my song the next time she comes to NC (which I guess will be with Lifehouse, since she said she's gonna be opening for them on their next tour).. She was funny, a great performance, and brightened up my day with her niceness.. Go check her out, please.. Her site is at http://www.michellebranch.net and if you didn't go check out her three GetMusic acoustic performances that I sent to the list a while back, you can watch those now too.. The link is http://www.getmusic.com/artists/featured/MichelleBranchInterview482940.html After Michelle, we ran back to the lawn to check out my favorite right now, Nelly Furtado.. The organizers WANTED to give me a heart attack, obviously.. Five For Fighting, Michelle Branch, and Nelly Furtado in a row.. Nelly was really great, as usual, even from the lawn.. Her music is so awesome and unlike anything out there right now.. If you haven't listened to me go on about her before, you won't now, so I'll tell you about something really cool that happened during Nelly's set.. My friend's mom was really hot (it was scorching out there), so she bought a little tank top for this group called Runaway Cab that we missed because they played really early on in the day.. So we were sitting on the lawn and this guy plops down next to the mom and tells her he's from Runaway Cab and thanks her for buying the shirt.. He called another guy from the band over and we played along like we were fans and got a picture with them.. So that's two groups I got pics with.. We saw Trickside walking around, but they didn't look too talkative.. Anyway, check out Nelly at http://www.nellyfurtado.com ..It's under construction, but it has links to info and clips from her album and a link to a really good official fan site, Shit On The Radio.. I guess I should plug Runaway Cab since they were really nice guys too.. Their site is at http://www.runawaycab.com After Nelly Furtado, we started walking around and hanging out, so we missed Vertical Horizon and Dexter Freebish.. I'm not the hugest fans in the world of either of them (not that they're bad, I'm just nto familiar with them), so it wasn't a huge loss.. The last group we saw (we left during the last act, Barenaked Ladies) was Evan & Jaron.. I realized it was my last up close pic chance since they were surprisingly on the side stage.. We waited in the mob of people for probably 45 minutes.. I was about to leave since they were late and I was getting a little suffocated.. They finally came on and did a pretty kick-ass set.. It's just them and their guitars, but they remained pretty entertaining.. I got about 15 close pics of them (about the only pics I got that day) and got both of their autographs on the other side of my ticket (wow, that ticket's doing pretty good).. After E&J we left on a high.. Overall, it was a great day.. And completely free.. Can't wait to get the film developed.. So anyway, hope you all had fun.. (it was even relatively slow the last two weekends when the Nashville show was announced and then postponed) Give the attendees time. Posts about shows typically do not come in for a day or so, especially so when most of the attendees had to travel a good long distance. Obviously, Jewel wasn't on yet. The original opening time was stated as 6pm, however when they arrived to the venue they were told they wouldn't even get inside until 6:30pm. It was a hot one today in Nashville and this immediately reminded me of JewelStock ... waiting out in the heat, having to go to the bathroom while Akira and Crunch would occasionally come to the door and make fun of us through the glass. For those who don't know, Jewel is notoriously late for things and it is just something you have to accept and let go if you're really interested in having a good time. Item number two was that there were t-shirts made ... I believe by the venue. Funny thing is they were made up with last week's date. Instead of tossing them they just re-ran 'em through the press and crossed out last weekend and printed this weekend below it. I haven't seen them (obviously) but Tammy got one. They were down to only mediums or something, so I am not sure if any will be left after the show. (They ran $25 - little steep for what they were, but my signed JewelStock shirts are like my most prized Jewel possessions, so I am sure this is going to be close.) Anyway, that was the word on the street before the show ... hopefully we'll get a post from an actual attendee later tonight! -- Rob ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 5 Aug 2001 23:39:12 EDT From: HaRt0Jewel@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Jewelville Concert!!!!
