I don't know if you remember but I posted my dilemma a while ago. Thanks again for those who responded. I told you I would update you on what I decided so here goes: I burned my friend SOME of the CDs.. not all of them. So it was a happy comprimise. Her birthday's tomorrow so I will give those to her plus a memo board thing I found at Bed Bath and Beyond. So I guess it all worked out for the best :) But now I'm worried that she might find it insulting to only get a few.... like when you tip someone a penny to emphasize the bad service. We are EDA's. Part of this > "contest". > If you're a participant, you have the right to know how the winners were > chosen, AND actually to see a list of the winners. But I'm not even talking > about that part of it. The whole point of this, is simply that this *isn't* a "contest" therefore, we have absolutely no right to question, nor any right to know how these people were picked.... nor do we have a right to see whom was picked... this was a 'gift', not a contest, and yes, they had to limit the amount of people, but since it wasn't a contest, we have no rights to know anything - am I personally curious how the people were chosen? Yeah, a little bit, but it's not important, nor would I get upset about how they were chosen, because we have absolutely no right to know anything about it, and they have absolutely every right to chose who they do and don't allow any way they want to... I mean come on now, Mr.BB and anyone else is reading every single one of these posts, and I wouldn't be surprised if they decided never to offer something like this again as a gift simply because people *who weren't even interested in the gift* complained about it.... that's like someone spending their time and money to buy you a birthday gift and you turn around and tell them you hate it..... would you really expect them to buy you another one next year? It's the thought that counts in any gift....and Mr.BB & the rest of the Jewel people could have done ANYTHING with these tickets, but no, they offered them to us, and all you can do is bitch about how you *deserve* to know how these people were chosen? ~<3~ Sandy - -------------->http://www.envy.nu/angeloflove<-------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Jul 2001 16:16:19 -0400 From: MrBB Subject: [EDA] More invites sent/status update Back up from my nap and theres been six more cancellations and six more invitations sent. Jewel's six-song set was part of a promotional appearance on behalf of Pantene, sponsor of the Pro-Voice talent search, in which 1,200 females ages 14 to 24 submitted original songs. Although she had huge hits in 1996 and '98, Jewel has been relatively quiet since then, focusing mainly on spoken-word recordings. Jewel "I haven't been onstage for a long time," Jewel said. "I kind of quit for a while and went back to the ranch." Playing acoustic guitar, Jewel sang her hits "Who Will Save Your Soul," "You Were Meant for Me" and "Hands." She also performed a new song (about a troubled relationship) that, she said, will be on an album released in November. Jewel's voice was in fine form, running from a smoky croak on low notes to a sharp, bell-like tone in the upper register. Her brief set was filled with kooky humor, but none of the sappy poetry she is known for. She finished with an electrifying folk song on which she yodeled a cappella. Opening act Willa Ford performed her current hit "I Wanna Be Bad" and one other number. Accompanied by four dancers, Ford was a perfect study in the blandness of the teen-pop genre. The most thrilling element of her song the vocoder effect on the chorus was merely part of her taped musical accompaniment ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Jul 2001 18:59:11 -0400 From: "Scott" Subject: Re: [EDA] NJC: Artists Okay, I'm going to try to respond to everything.. Bear with me! :-) <> I watched an interview with her, and she seems like a cool, opinionated person, but that doesn't make her music any more interesting.. Think Britney Simpson or Jessica Spears...lol. I wouldn't recommend it, but to each his own. Each new artist that comes out that just tries to do straight-up pop sounds more and more bland. The only teen-hype artist I like is Christina Aguilera, and that's just because there's great potential later on. NSYNC is branching out into club and electronic beats, which is cool, but they're just stale.. Not much interest out of them.. And then Mandy Moore could be good if she keeps going her route.. She's not anywhere near the top of the charts, but she could have long-term success if she really tries to not be formulaic.. Anyway, the rest of the message.. Yeah.. <> Well, I checked it out for you since I was interested too.. It seems that she's in the studio and no release date has been set.. There IS a new track up at unofficial fan site www.imbruglia.com however.. I think it's called "Cold Air".. I'm not sure, I checked a few minutes ago and didn't listen to it yet.. Let me know what you think about it, people.. <> Ohhhhhh yeah. Two-step (his style) is huge. It's ultra-catchy, and it's gonna hit big here in the States.. That's my prediction.. NSYNC ventures into that terrain with their new CD with a track called "Up Against The Wall".. I'm not big on Craig's first single (I think it's called "Fill Me In") but I'm sure the rest of the CD is good.. Haven't given too much of a listen to it yet.. But it's two-step! :-) scott.evans [[crazy is just YOU and ME. AMPLIFIED.]] AOL IM: sevans112 . Yahoo! IM: sevans56 . scott@tanweb.com My scribble pad. (you have NO idea what a tough job it is, with all that Baaaa-ing and chatter and such, not to mention the pay is terrible! ;) more importantly, i can't stand when something so very amazing is close to occuring and "disagreements" of a ridiculous nature start popping up. it seems to happen everytime. there's always that one person that enjoys causing chaos amongst the list. so they make a post that is the spark. and of course most people don't realize this and decide to try and debate the issue. then the whole thing combusts and runs rampant before we have to scramble and put it out. then everything goes back to normal.... the only problem with this is that it makes us all look bad. bickering and infighting just makes us look alot less mature than we are. (and that's saying alot since i'm so immature as it is ;) what do you think jewel would say if she actually sat down and read some of the stuff we argue about? (not like she'd waste her time, but what if?) i'm embarrassed at the kinds of things that people whine or complain or argue about. it makes me embarrassed to be an EDA sometimes because of it. i don't want to feel that way. i know 99% of you guys aren't like that. this show is a gesture of kindness by jewel and her team, and i'm grateful for the opportunity. they don't owe us anything. we don't deserve any special privledges or treatment. this is not a contest or a raffle. it's not an exclusive super-EDA club. it's just a free show that some of us were lucky to be invited to. it's not our business how people were chosen. it's as simple as that. implying that the j-team used some secret CIA method of picking only the "cool kids" is a bunch of crap. you have to trust that they were fair in the selection. you can do no more. oh, one more thing. do you all want to know how to stop this nonsense? it's simple really. all you have to do is let the issue die. trolls can't troll if everyone ignores them :) and that's all i'm going to say about that. always crazy, chris :) ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V6 #303 ***************************
