Subject: [EDA] selection process Maybe it's just me, or maybe I'm the only one who will speak up about this, but does anyone else care to know exactly how the 100 "winners" for the TN show were chosen? It's not AS much an issue for me as it may be for others who were signed up to go and weren't selected, but doesn't anyone want to know how the 100 were picked? I've never heard of a contest, drawing, game, anything, where something was given away (in this case, free tickets) without some criteria, and/or rules established on how the prizes would be awarded. And I know if I signed up and didn't get chosen I'd SURE want to know...since some who were chosen can't even go. It just doesn't seem very fair to everyone. I think the EDA's deserve to know how the 100 were selected. Otherwise, it's just like one big toss up, and for all anyone knows, it could just be some personal preference on who got picked. There are tons of options to choose from if this isn't made clear. Was it the people who post the most to the list? Someone else actually suggested this to me...which I never even thought about beforehand. Was it first come basis? (the WORST way in my opinion, when doing something electronically anyway), or if not, then what? Number of letters in someone's name? lol Come on guys, how were these people picked? Tell us. I know I'm not the only one who wants to know. Maybe I'm just the designated spokesperson. If we're never told, I think it really makes this list look pretty bad. Yeah, it's nice and all that 100 get to go to a free show, but when it's not even mentioned ONCE how those 100 were selected (and why the 100's weren't selected), what does that say about the list? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Jul 2001 20:51:36 EDT From: Rolkdog@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] selection process Wow Derrick, settle down. This is not that monumental of an issue. Mr. BB, Mike, and the Jewel team are honest and perfectly capable of picking these 100 people in a fair manner. Relax. And as far as the theory of being picked because they post a lot, that's automatically shotdown because I was invited and don't remember posting in at least a year til right now. So it's all good, my advice is not to worry about this because it's no big deal. I think it is amazing the opportunity came up, 100 people get to go and experience this for free, and thats all that matters. Why do we have to know every detail of everything? You seem to ALWAYS speculate about things, and then start up a big mess with everyone playing guessing games, then after 30 or so replies Mike comes in and answers your question in a simple way. What don't you just ask him instead of starting up trouble before you even know for sure that something is wrong. I truly believe that individuals can make a difference in society. There are only 100 EDAs invited. Case closed. It doesn't really matter how they were selected, or what made the Jewel Team pick certian people over others... so lets not bitch and complain about it. Those who were not invited ARE ALL DISAPPOINTED (Yes, including me). But, I am VERY happy for those who were invited.... quite frankly ITS NONE OF OUR BUSINESS how they selected people.... what does that say about US and the appreciation we show to JEWEL if we get all pissy and DEMAND to know???? WHY? Heck, they don't deserve that at all. It's attitudes like this exemplified today with this and other recent posts to this list that goes against the very fabric/idea/EDA spirit as to WHY they invited 100 EDAs in the first place. If we all had an attitude like this ("EDAs deserve to know"), there'd have NEVER been an invite. We'd have not been worthy of such a special opportunity (again...recall 1996?). We'd be EveryDay Ingrates, not EveryDAy Angels. Don't kick a gift horse in the mouth. They very well could have just had some radio station give away the tix to callers 180 to 380, or sold tickets outright. But no, they invited 100 EDAs plus 100 guests for free, all the 200 have to do is get there. (and of course have a realistic chance to get there) So what if we don't know how they whittled XXX number of requests down to 100. I am sure whatever process they used was as fair as possible to the applicants when all things are considered. Was someone invited that won't be able to make it? Yes, of course. Where people not invited that WOULD be there? Yes, of course. Was there a way to ensure all 100 invites WOULD make it? No, of course not. Not if all 100 invites lived a block from the theatre, not if all 100 invites had 6 months to plan. Heck, you didn't even try to get invited, why do you care so much as to how 100 were selected? 100 of your fellow list members have an opportunity to be at what promises to be a very special event. Be happy for the 100 who get to go and please stop trying to give the non-invitees any more reason (unfounded at that) to be disappointed.
