[Harrisbros@aol.com] [EDA] NJC: Artists [Padilla Donovan G SrA 727AMS/CSS ] RE: [EDA] Invite's ["Connell, Michael P" Subject: [EDA] NJC: Artists Hello Angels! I'm getting curious about some of the new artists I've been reading about on this list. Most of all, Willa Ford. I know she was at the Central Park concert last week and that's about it. I saw her cd at the store yesterday and I was tempted to pick it up. What's her style and who can she be compared to? Is her cd worth buying? I haven't heard any of her songs yet, that I know of anyway. Also, I read a couple of posts recently referring to Natalie Imbruglia and her new cd. Does anybody know when it's scheduled to be put out? Those of you in the States that have read some of my posts might remember that I'm in the US Air Force and am currently stationed in England, so I'm kind of sheltered when it comes to new and upcoming artists in the States as most music played over here on radio stations techno/house. I'll madly consume any info I can when it comes to musicians. For those of you into R&B, you should try Craig David. His cd came out over here in the UK last year and pretty much took the country by storm in my opinion. I know his cd just came out in the States. There're a couple of extra songs on the US edition that weren't on the UK edition. Just thought I'd recommend it. Thanks in advance for any info you guys can give me. Take care everybody. This year's campout was much different than years past. Far less of everyone doing things together (other than the two campfires), but enjoyable nonetheless. It ws great seeing Gerritt from SoCal finally returning to the scene of the crime, and the BV newbies: Yunes, Paul from Canada and Katie and Sarah from North Carolina. I hope I did my best to help you enjoy your weekend, and look forward to crossing paths again. My #1 highlight was the impromptu trip into Woodstock Saturday late night to see the reggae band, and dancing barefoot for two hours with Kelly Gallagher, Billy B, Alice Esteeves, John Hickey and assorted young and old local hippies. It ranks as one of my best Bearsville memories ever, and I wish every EDA who has ever attended Bearsville could have been there together that night. It captured the essence of this group at its absolute best. Singing the "Dirty Dancing" soundtrack off-key on the way back to camp while dodging nomadic herds of deer was strange, even by my standards. Another highlight was wandering off with the Campbells, Amy, Paul and Rachel to the swimming hole in the park. Yes, there is a bottom to the deep end of the pond, and yes, it is very cold. Rob and Paul, we must dive off the "floating diving platform thingy" again. Of course, Ametia Campbell getting her hair caught in the motorized toy boat propeller was to be expected; her father immediately proceeding to stick HIS HEAD into it was not. As I extracted hair and a toy boat from his head, Rob said he felt like a couple of baboons picking nits from each other's hair. Too funny. Of course, after we got back to camp, the other Campbell daughter caught her hair in the tent zipper (which has happened before, and likely will happen again). Tammy, I always thought it was you, but I guess they really do get it from their daddy. Thus, the Campbells now have a new nickname or two -- "The PropellerHeads" or "The ZipperHeads". :-) Horseshoes in the deserted Saturday camp was cool. Gerritt, that's the first time I've ever seen someone bounce a horseshoe off a tree and get a ringer. You da man. Gina, Steve and Paul, work on your game! ;-) I got to spend more time with Mike Connell-Harris since, well, JewelStock five years ago. I don't mind climbing in the moonroof of your SUV, but how's about not closing it on me when I climb back out, deal? The post-lunch trip into Woodstock Sunday and prolonged goodbyes with the last dozen remaining EDAs brought back some warm fuzzy feelings, too. You're right, Abel. At that point you really don't want the weekend to end, and leave these people behind. But sometimes you have no other choice, I suppose. Other than that, my disclaimers include: 1) Rob Campbell shot off ALL the bottlerockets. Tammy made me throw the pretty smokebombs in the fire, and the firecrackers simply slipped out of my hand. We didn't get thrown outta anywhere, and CLOSE only counts in horseshoes (see above) and hand grenades (which I did restrain from throwing in the fire). 'Nuff said. 2) Rob will bleat like a sheep in bed at 3 AM; Tammy will not (her blue shooters had obviously worn off by then). At least I didn't ask 'em to bleat the full version of Chime Bells (like we've did at the '97 Jewel shows). 3) Rob claims shrinkage in the shower. I will give him the benefit of a doubt. 4) Yes, the opening is called a "bunghole", but I formally request that Gina keep her fist outta my drum next year! ;-) 5) I was very low key this year. Saturday night I was accused by Kelly and John of being the "Bizzaro Dennis" (is that possble?) during the evening for being so mellow. Yes Mike, you would have lost the $100 bet that I couldn't be quiet for an hour. BIG TIME. Saturday night I actually left EDAs awake and went to bed early (2:30 AM, a Bearsville early night record for me). I planned NO EVENTS this year, and made absolutely no decisions for anyone (or for myself, for the most part). 6) Yes, I almost died eating a hotdog. And you guys missed it. Shoulda been there. ha-ha. (You know you've almost bought the farm when you instruct Mike Connell how to perform a tracheotomy with a Bic pen should you totally lose consciousness) Oh well, just one of many near-fatalities - -- we almost lost Vickie and Katie tubing, and all my jokes died this year. 7) Public thanks to Tammy Campbell (and Rob, of course) for keeping this event alive year after year. I love you both like family. Umm, that's all. Dennis Harris ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Jul 2001 13:30:41 -0400 From: "Tom O'Brien" Subject: Re: [EDA] Bearsville Wrap-Up: Year Five! Subject: [EDA] Private show in more detail Since this has been brought to my attention, and isn't anything that hasn't been mentioned already (just maybe not in this format, or this direct), I just wanted to clarify some things. The private live recording session/concert next Monday is actually going to be *2* separate "shows", in a sense. First there will be the live recording session where Jewel will lay down some new tracks for her upcoming CD, hoping to incorporate some audience noise in the background I would guess. THEN, after this, she's going to be performing an actual concert for those in attendance, similar to Jewelstock. So I think this makes it really worth going to as this will actually be pretty much a private concert. Maybe that's her way of thanking everyone for coming...who knows. But it sounds pretty cool. All of this has already been mentioned in Alan's post, but I thought since I was a bit misled (thinking it was one "show"), that possibly some others may have been too, and just wanted everyone to know the specifics. :-) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Jul 2001 13:46:13 -0400 From: "Connell, Michael P" Subject: NOT TRUE!!!! - RE: [EDA] Private show in more detail Unfortunately, Derrick took some statements totally out of context.
