Boy, it's been a REALLY long time since I have posted to the list, but I've been an EDA for a little over 2 years. I used to talk about my band, Sweet Duration, on this list right around beginning-to-mid 1999 when I first became an EDA and we were just starting out. But we are pretty well established now, a little over 2 years old, and our first full-length album will be out in about a week or so. 3 out of 4 band members are EDAs, so of course Jewel is a big influence on our music. Other influences would be Jennifer Knapp, Hootie 7 The Blowfish, Sarah McLachlan, Sixpence None the Richer, Lisa Loeb, Edwin McCain, Jason Mraz, and many more. As you may have gathered we are an acoustic-based pop/rock band. We were "noticed" by San Francisco-based label APG Records recently (http://www.apgrecords.com) and recorded this album during the month of June in their studios with the label's support. The label says, after the album is out, that they will watch our progress for about 6-8 months or so, see how many albums sell and how our live shows are, and if we get any good press/reviews, etc. Then maybe we will get a full contract from them, in which case we would be distributed nationally since they are affiliated with EMI Distribution (one of the big 5)!!! So I have been eagerly awaiting sharing our music with the EDAs. I write about 98% of the songs, and the other band members write the music behind my lyrics/melodies. You can check us out by going to our official website, and you can listen to all 11 of the songs that will be on the album on the Music page. In about a week when the album is out you wil be able to buy it through our website, or through Amazon, CD Baby, or mp3.com. Or, of course, at any of our shows, if you are a California resident. Maybe soon we'll be branching out beyond CA!! Thanks for your support, and please e-mail us to let us know what you think of the songs if you get the chance to listen to them! We really need reviews that we can share with the record company, and perhaps post on our website for other potential fans to read.... She also headlined the last LRC here in SoCal. This will be Joy's last Java Joe's performance (and therefore SoCals last chance)before she moves back to Chicago in September!!! Just thought I'd share. Jason V BLUES, BEAUTY and a CHINESE FIRE DRILL?? Java Joe's hosts Joy Eden Harrison and Grant Langston, July 20, 2001. The velvet lyrics and sublime smokey, silky, evocative voice of Joy Eden Harrison returns to San Diego July 20, sharing the stage with Alabama native Grant Langston for an evening of Americana folk-rolk, and classic Chicago blues reminiscent of the 1930's. Alternately scathing and sentimental, ironic and achingly authentic, Grant Langston, finds a way to get your attention. His Frank Sinatra attitude and Tom Petty croon make him a bundle of entertaining contradictions. His music has been called everything from "smart-ass pop" to "countryesque Americana". Langston recently contributed tracks to the new Dennis Hopper film, The Spreading Ground, and was recently tapped for a guest appearance performing an acoustic version of Time of Day on The WB hit television series Angel. He is currently setting off on a nationwide tour of 30+ cities in support of his new CD CHINESE FIRE DRILL. Joy Eden Harrison's songs are often "slice of life" stories embedded in a 1930's soundscape. She draws on a luminous family heritage of legendary Hollywood screenwriters, and seamlessly weaves timeless lyrics about lost love and betrayal, with as one critic wrote, "the soft and sure sophistication rarely heard from artists of any genre." Currently Joy has two original compositions on the Silver Screen. The Love Beneath Your Lies is in the film "Curtain Call", starring Michael Caine, Maggie Smith, Sam Shepard and James Spader. Marlene is in the film "Suicide Kings" starring Christopher Walken and Dennis Leary. Both Songs are on her ANGEL TOWN CD. To see her perform live is a remarkable experience of contemporary artistry and stylistic nostalgia. Joy Eden Harrison along with Grant Langston performs on Friday, July 20, 9:00 P.M. at Java Joe's, 1956 Bacon Street, in Ocean Beach. Reservations are encouraged by calling 619-523-0356. Tickets cost $10. ===== EveryDay Angels Foundation (visit at www.edaf.org) Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! It's late and way past my bed time, so I cannot write the post I'd like to about him, but I'd like to leave you with a post that another fan of his posted on a NYC board I happened to stumble upon on AOL tonight, and he and this board made many posts remembering this man I consider a legend. Rest in peace Harry, I miss you and your wonderfully entertaining shows. No one I have seen since has come remotely close. a fan forever, Mike *********** Posted on the AOL board: The Buroughs Subject: Remembering Harry Chapin Date: 7/16/01 12:06 PM Eastern Daylight Time From: HZryb Let us pause for a few minutes during our hectic routine that we call our daily lives and honor the memory of Harry Chapin, one of my heroes, who died in an automobile accident on the LIE 20 years ago today. He was only 38 years old. He was the principle organizer and guiding force behind World Hunger Year, and as he liked to say onstage "I do one show for me, and one show for the other guy." He truly was a recording artist who put his money where his mouth was. No doubt Harry would have been at the fore in the We Are The World Sessions. His voice was sorely missed on that recording. Harry was even posthumously awarded a Congressional Gold Medal for his outstanding humanitarian efforts I remember on the day Harry died, I was supposed to attend a benefit concert at Eisenhower Park that evening. I heard about the horrible accident on WNEW-FM in the afternoon. Truly a great loss for all of us. Harry remains, for me, one of the great lyricists who ever put notes to paperhis songs told stories, some serious, some frivolous, all entertaining. I remember hearing "Taxi" in my bedroom one day in 1972. There are very few songs that you can remember the very first time you heard them. This is one of them. Harry's imagery, the melody, the whole enchilada is perfect. His songs were like movies, very cinematic. His lyrics were powerful and his presentation evocative. I also really like "Better Place To Be" and for any of you who have teenaged girls please listen to "Tangled Up Puppet." It's guaranteed to raise a few emotions. Harry also had the guts to record a poem that his wife Sandy wrote, called "Cats in the Cradle." With my own travel schedule, I relate to that song better than most, and of course, Harry himself was speaking in the first person. It's hard to believe that 20 years have passed already since Harry's tragic demise. "Remember when the music was a glow on the horizon of every new-born day, and as we sang the sun came up to chase the dark away, and life was good, for we knew we could" "I aint here on business baby, I'm only here for fun!"
