Subject: [EDA] an alternate path For those who are a bit discouraged about Jewel and her career right now, go check out the site, www.taramaclean.com and read her latest entry in the diary section. This is an amazing artist, and she's a very down to earth person as well, and unlike Jewel, she hasn't reach that multi million $ status, so she's still just as close to her fans as ever. Just read the entry and you'll see what I mean...it really says alot about her character. There ARE other artists out there who are genuine, and caring. "Real" people I like to call them. Thanks. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Jul 2001 02:12:38 -0500 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W." Subject: [EDA] NEW thread(s) 1. What's in your CD player right now? I think the last time I heard any Jewel song was when I saw her last, in Februay 2000. Haven't listened to anything on CD, or tape, etc., since then. 100% honest. How can it be "too much," and who decides that it is too much? Her, you, me? I will agree, she has changed (not to bring back the whole "change/sell out thread" that has been here since at least Spirit), but speaking for myself, I think I have changed more. I mean, I was 17 when jewel first caught my attention, and now that I'm almost 23, something had to change in that time, for her, and all of us. The weekend I first listened to POY I was freezing, trying to live in my truck, and the living room of a friend when his landlord was not home, because I was too stubborn to come home. Time passed, and somewhere in there I grew up a little bit, though I'm still too stubborn, and I'm not the same person as the kid I remember who ran the battery down on his truck listening to POY during the winter of 96. I'm pretty sure we've all changed a bit since then, (Dennis Harris cut his hair, Woody got his nose written on, Sean Hooks went to bearsville, an EDA couple got married, new friendships were formed, some new EDAs came, a few old EDAs left, our village became a town, beaches got cleaned, empty bellies got filled, cold bodies got covered...) and I'm pretty sure while all that, and a million other things changed, so did jewel. But even if I may not like some of the new stuff compared to the old, I think it was a fair trade. My life is a bit more complete with the friends I've made while an EDA, I might even be a slightly better man for all of their influence. Jewel touched my heart, but the EDAs helped shape it. Now before Auld Lang Syne starts playing in the background, I must admit... I do not search out Jewel much anymore. I've never seen RWTD, or read Chasing down the dawn (did catch part of the Hard rock live rerun the other night though)... like I said, everyone has changed, but when it comes down to Jewel's music, I've probably changed more than her music. Other singers are more relevant to where I am at in my life right now, and when I see them live, or listen to them on the radio I feel emotions (though not the same ones) as when I first heard Jewel. But five years from now they will bring back fond, or not so fond memories of today, but likely will shed little light on where I will be at then in my life. Watching Hard Rock Live the other night gave me the chance to relive a moment of my past. I remember borrowing a friend's gaffs to climb the electric pole behind my house to turn the cable on to watch it. When 1000 miles away played I could close my eyes and experience all of the emotion in my life from when HRL first played. Honestly, listening to it and foolish games again, the memories they invoked made me cry a wee bit. Aye, things have changed, but I dunno know about the "too much" part. I only regret that I did not try to go to more gatherings, meet more EDAs. anyway Rowdius PS, and conforming to standards set long ago for "looking back" posts I mentioned: 1. how long I've been on the list 2. First time I heard jewel 3. Dennis Harris 4. Sean Hooks 5. Woody, the plywood cow of our hearts, Though for briefness I left out mentions of Jewel being an alien, llamas, hot-dogs, and suggesting to flamers that they hate me because I am pieces of them (oops, until now, so I guess I did mention them!;-) ) >From: "Charles Gregory" >To: snowden@uconect.net, jewel@smoe.org >Subject: Re: [EDA] Jewel's future >Date: Mon, 16 Jul 2001 04:08:31 -0000 > >Hey, > > That is not a posative attitude at all!!! She's one of those artists that you can listen to closely or loop continuously in the background...just really good, always listenable music.. I was going to go see her when she and Kendall Payne (another great artist) went out on a free tour, but they never came close enough to where I live.. Kind of a bummer, but hey...I still have a lot of respect for them for doing a free tour.. Check out "If I Fall" and "Divided".. They're her two biggest songs probably, and they're a good starting point for listening to her music.. :-) scott.evans [[crazy is just YOU and ME. AMPLIFIED.]] AOL IM: sevans112 . Yahoo!
