To round out what will be an already stellar weekend of live music events in Southern California (ie Jewel on the 19th and 20th), Sonja and I would like to announce the return of the SoCal EDA LRC series. Long overdue (can you believe the last one was way back in MAY of 2000?), it is to be held on Saturday Aug 18th (the staurday preceeding the Jewel shows) with the doors opening at 7pm :) Scheduled to appear so far is the EDAs own fab super group Sweet Duration (www.sweetduration.com). Since appearing way back at the Gathering of Angels in June 1999, Sweet D has grown to become one of Northern Californias hottest acoustic pop/rock bands. You can count on this being an incredible show as this LRC marks the bands return to performing in Southern California. We will be announcing one or two other acts as things continue to develop so stay tuned! Who? Sweet Duration and ? What? A SoCal EDA LRC Where? SoCal EDA Haven (aka The Vierling Residence) When? Saturday August 18th from 7pm to ? How Much? a $10 donation is suggested (all proceeds will be donated to the EDA Foundation to support it's ongoing charitable works programs [www.edaf.org]) What else? We will need to you to RSVP as space is limited.... Hope you all can make it! Isn't Jewel one of the greatest live performers on the planet? I would have thought Atlantic Records would have released some concerts on DVD by now. They've released three Corrs DVDs, I realise Jewel hasn't been as successful as the Corrs but you would have thought they'd release one for the fans. Almost shy and not going out........ it4s is such as shame that a talentend girl she is really not taking care of the fans right now propably i get slammed by other fans but Jewel is not the same as she was........some will say that can not be truth and other says its inevitble....... i don4think it4s inevitble......jewel always a dedicated artist.........but now almost 2 years SILENCE!!!!!!!! it is CRAPPY ! greetings, michiel ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Jul 2001 17:11:32 -0400 From: "S c o t t" Subject: Re: [EDA] CORRECT Jewel DVDS Michiel, no offense but...CHILL the HELL out!! lol...Why would there be promotion right now when she is working on her next album? When an artist doesn't have material to promote, they can't exactly promote it, now can they? She is working on her next album, and from what I've heard about the material, it's going to kick ass! Normally artists take about two years between albums.. It's been three since her last real album.. I think she damn well deserved her year off.. Plus you add in Joy from late 1999 and the promotion for that in Winter 1999 AND Winter 200 when she went out and promoted it again, and you have even more from her.. She is not taking care of her fans? Well, who cares? She WAS taking her break, and she's not even doing that now.. She's working on her album.. Find some other artists to listen to while her cycle is in the downtime.. There's plenty of other artists who have equal or greater talent than Jewel.. I promise.. You won't die if you don't think about Jewel every 5 seconds.. Go listen to some Ani Difranco or some Tori Amos or some Jonatha Brooke.. Or go give Steve's One Left Shoe a couple of spins.. Jewel only has a few months left.. Alan has said that they're hoping and aiming for a late fall release.. Add in the promotion for the first single and the hype machine starting a month or more before that, and Jewel will be back before you know it.. And don't accuse her of not caring about her fans.. That's LAUGHABLE.. She stays closer to her fans and keeps more in contact than most other artists.. Two years is NOT a long time for a break.. Try giving her one.. And while I realize that it's not the same thing as seeing her live in person, I can still tell you there's plenty of other artists in the vast musical landscape who are at least equal to Jewel in terms of showmanship, songwriting, and performance.. It's true that Jewel is very, very good and nearly flawless on a good night, there at tons of artists to listen to and discover while she's on a normal hiatus.. And if you tell me otherwise about that last statement, then that can be attributed to ignorance and being too lazy to try and seek out other artists out there.. And even if you thing Jewel is on some high level that no one else will ever reach for all eternity, there are other artists who are at least....great artists in their own right. Stop thinking about Jewel 24/7 and her new stuff will reach you in what seems like a much shorter time than if you constantly bitch and complain.. There's much more greatness > coming from Jewel if you have patience.. I've dozens of Jewel concert tapes and none have come anywhere close to the experience of the many live Jewel concerts that I've been to. Also I've seen plenty of other artists live in concert from Ani Difranco to U2 and again none could match Jewel's fantastic live performances. Is she this all worthy goddess at the center of the universe? Is she deserving of us bowing down at her feet, worshipping her, and kissing the ground she walks on? If you answred no to the first question, and yes to the last two questions.... you need to get a life! There's more to life than Jewel. Its pathetic that some of us spend our days thinking "Jewel.... jewel... jewel.... Jewel... Jewel... jewel....." Its one thing to enjoy her music, but its a totally different thing to go all out and worship it, and think of nothing else but it, and don;t even realize there are other extremely talented artists out there. "jewel jewel jewel jewel jewel jewel jewel" is all you think. its all you play. give her a break, and give other artists a chance! I can name plenty of things in this life that are more thought-worthy, than thinking of Jewel 24/7. cymbie tree hugger - -- when night falls it's dawn one must reach for. - -a. camus ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Jul 2001 20:50:28 -0400 From: "cymbaline" Subject: Re: [EDA] CORRECT Jewel DVDS i agree with scott here. you seem to expect jewel to drop everything, her personal private life and everything else, and say "okay micheil! i'll finish my cd tonight, even though it will be crap since you're rushing me. and i'll press it tomorrow, and it will be in stores the next day! just cause you're so crazy in love wih me and are too impatient to wait." how come everytime you post it's "i want i want i want"?? can you CHILL OUT? she's WORKING on it. It TAKES TIME to get great results. in the meantime, she is doing stuff: Where she LIVES! in the US! You're so desperate for her to do something in Europe even though you seen her a zillion times when you followed her around. It appears that this will air only once. It's the HGH launch concert Jewel performed in Aspen Colorado in January 1999, which was taped by VH1 for later airing that spring. It originally aired on March 6th 1999, so I checked the archives to see if anyone posted the set list, but no one did...so hopefully someone who has a tape of the TV show can post the set list. I cannot recall the show at all myself, but from the posts I DID read, it seems most people were quite pleased. One post in particular by Jamie Mathews is below. Mike :-) Post from Jamie Mathews 3/6/99: Overall...I thought it was pretty damn good. Down So Long was er...=I. I thought it Hands was beautiful...better than usual. Foolish Games was amazing =) I sat through the whole thing PRAYING that she wouldn't ruin such a beautiful rendition with her wailing in the end, like she tends to do...and she didn't =) And the piano was beautiful! It was nice to hear it again. Although I'm a huge fan of the older version of Deep Water, I have to say...this version was great live! She was very spirited while singing it...I enjoyed it. I thought it was really cute when they all started dancing a little during the bridge...=) And the end was beautiful...what more can I say. Fat Boy was Fat Boy. You Were Meant For Me was You Were Meant For Me...ya know..."I was happy, I was sad" Ugh, though. I mean she sang that WHOLE song in her cutesy voice, and although I like the cutesy voice...ugh. Steve Rocked though =) What's Simple is True sounded really great live with the band. (I LOVE YOU, CILLA!!!!!) Then Jupiter. AAAAAAAAH!!! SHE SANG JUPITER! First off, I wasn't too impressed...and it really annoyed me when she said crihizy. What the heck does crihizy mean? You meake me so crihizy baby...whatever. But the end, MY GOD...I thought it was amazing. She did it SO great. Great. =) Amazing. =) Kiss the Flame was really pretty, and Cold SOng and Who Will Save Your SOul were okay. Okay...that's my review...I was highly pleased =) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Jul 2001 21:56:22 -0400 From: "cymbaline" Subject: Re: [EDA] Is there more to life than Jewel??
