Well, all I can figure is that a source MrBB and crew relies on got its' wires crossed, and it (Storytellers with Jewel) may not be on afterall. The official VH1 website does not list it either: http://www.vh1.com/insidevh1/schedule/series.jhtml?seriesID=76 Mike ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 05 Jul 2001 08:07:00 -0400 From: "Connell, Michael P" Subject: [EDA] Jewel Storytellers taken off the VH1 schedule for July 6th. MrBB looked into and has the explanation posted on Jewel's calendar site. Turns out it was taken off the VH1 schedule. To coincide with the Stevie Nicks/Sheryl Crow tour, VH1 made programming changes and substituted Sheryl Crow's episode (with guest Stevie Nicks) in place of Jewel's episode at 9PM est tomorrow evening. Even though Jewel's episode is still listed on RockOnTV's web site (and others), Jewel's episode is no longer scheduled for tomorrow evening. Also another interesting example of the media taking info directly from the EDA list. :) So here is a question. If all these other drummers are cutting tracks, Brady Blade will still be touring with Jewel when they promote the album, right. As far as November 13th being the album's release date, can you say conjecture? lol. Isn't that about a day off from 2 years ago that Spirit came out? For some reason November 12th sticks in my mind. Maybe it was ANWA. Anyway, just some of you might like to read what Sonicnet had to say/guess about the new album. Charles. The singer/songwriter has penned several tracks with "Smooth" co-writer Itaal Shur and recently began recording the follow-up to her 1999 Christmas standards album, Joy: A Holiday Celebration, with producers John Kurzweg (Creed) and Dann Huff (Faith Hill). Kurzweg said he's recorded only one track, called "Jesus Loves You." His plans to produce Creed's next album (see "Creed Taking Things Higher On Third Album") may prevent him from working on other songs with her, he said. But Kurzweg said last week that based on the 17 demos Jewel played for him, Ms. Kilcher's new music may stun those who know her from "Who Will Save Your Soul," off 1995's Pieces of You, or "Hands," off 1998's Spirit. "It was really cool stuff," Kurzweg said. "Some of the stuff is very similar [to Jewel's past work], and then some of it is kind of edgier and a little more loop-based. What attracted me to the songs we were interested in working on together - it was more dangerous-sounding than I expected it to be, or edgier." Kurzweg brought in A Perfect Circle drummer Josh Freese for "Jesus Loves You" to re-create the percussion-heavy sound he heard in the song's demo. Shur, meanwhile, said he's co-written several tracks with Jewel, including "Serve the Ego" and "Shadows Play," both of which she's already played live. "Serve the Ego" boasts Indian-flavored backing, a minor-key melody and the cynical refrain "Get on your hands and knees/ And praise the new deity/ Serve the ego" - a long way from critically derided Spirit tracks like "What's Simple Is True." "Shadows Play," meanwhile, has a Brazilian feel; Shur described it as a "bossa nova chill-out song." Jane's Addiction drummer Stephen Perkins said in June that he'd recorded one song with Jewel. The track, which he didn't name, is not a major departure for her, he said. According to an e-mail sent to fans by her management, Jewel has also recorded her blues-rock live staple "Love Me Just Leave Me Alone," which in concert has blatantly evoked Bob Dylan circa Highway 61 Revisited. Jewel's label and management could not be reached for comment on her new album's progress, and no release date has been set. In the e-mail to fans, Jewel's management cautioned that she is writing and recording many songs for the album and that it is not yet clear which tracks she will decide to include. Jewel has several isolated live dates lined up this summer, including a July 19 appearance in New York's Central Park (see "Jewel, Willa Ford To Perform With Contest Finalists"). - --------------- Chris. http://www.jewelfan.co.uk : Jewel - Pieces Of UK ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Jul 2001 15:38:41 EDT From: Fredsteve@aol.com Subject: [EDA] News on the album - RELEASE DATE! First of all - it's time she does something different. Second of all, this proves once and for all that the album isn't going to be country-based. It doesn't surprise me that Serve the Ego and Shadows Play were co-written by Itaal Shur. They're both pretty generic, catchy, pop-esque songs ... as was Smooth. I hope she doesn't put those on.. or at least she only puts on Serve the Ego if she wants to use one of them. I had guessed that John Kurzweg had recorded "Love me just leave me alone".. guess i was wrong. Jesus Loves Me - that's the first actual NEW title we have. AND - November 13th release date. I don't really know that much about the music industry.. but I do know that record companies try to release their most promising material around Christmas because CD sales sky-rocket during that period... and they wouldn't want to waste that on an album they know isn't going to sell that well anyway. also - they tend to only release albums by name-artists because so many albums come out during that time that they want to have faith that the album can stay afloat with all the competition. so the indication is that Atlantic still has a lot of faith in her. I really really hope this album delivers.... it certainly sounds like she's taking some risks.. and that is ALWAYS good. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 05 Jul 2001 14:50:43 -0500 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W." Does anyone know when Jewel actually comes on stage? Also, I would love to meet other people that will be there, so if you're going, let me know so we can find each other. What if we all wore yellow shirts so we'd know if we were on this list? Wouldn't that be keen? It was just Steve and his acoustic guitar, and he did some really familiar songs, and he did YWMFM, and a song with MoJo Nixon, a radio personality here that Steve grew up with in San Diego, called "UPS My Heart Next Day to You," and he did a song he wrote the night before called "Chinese Vacation," and it was hilarious. He sat and talked with me for about 15 minutes after he signed stuff for people, and now I have a rare Poltz item: A MUDD shoulder bag that is signed by none other than Steven J. Poltz; he said now it is a designer signature series model, worth millions. LoL Well, did any other EDAs go to this one?
