Shenk" Subject: [EDA] Jewel's Former Manager Suffers Blow To Lawsuit Hi , All . The latest news on Jewel ... --Joe Jewel's Former Manager Suffers Blow To Lawsuit (6/1/01, 4 p.m. ET) -- The 1998 lawsuit filed by Jewel's former co-manager Inga Vainshtein against the singer-songwiter for breach of contract suffered a major setback on Wednesday (May 30) when the California Labor Commissioner declared the management agreement to be void and "unenforceable for all purposes." Vainshtein had co-managed Jewel with the songwriter's mother, Nedra Carroll, since 1993, and was dismissed in 1998. A spokesperson told LAUNCH, "Certainly this is a victory for Jewel and her mother and manager, Nedra Carroll." The 28-page ruling cited that the contract violated the California Talent Agencies Act since Vainshtein was found to have illegally booked and attempted to book engagements for Jewel without being a licensed booking agent. That's in violation of the California Labor Code, sections 1700.4(b) and 1700.5. Deputy Chief California Labor Commissioner Thomas Grogan signed the decision, as did the organization's attorney David L. Gurley. - -- Darren Davis, New York http://www.launch.com/music/content/1,,197273,00.html?vo=nbin Reminder: some Jewel News & Discussion Also Found Here : http://www.groups.yahoo.com/group/Folk-Rock ===== - ---------------------------------------------- eMail - folk_rock@yahoo.com ... my World + Society web page(s) ... : http://community-2.webtv.net/joeshenk/WorldSociety/ ... then : http://www.geocities.com/joeshenk Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! The law would technically apply to Nedra. Given the familial relationship a Court would likely examine the facts closely before choosing to enforce it in the case of an adult and her parent.
