Alright, so I'm going to add my response to the thread...but I'm going to have to put on 12 songs, since it's a CD not an EP.. Plus, there are too many songs to narrow it down to 7 ;-) Here we go... 1 - Carnivore --> My favorite Jewel song.. I'd actually like this one to have a band backing.. In my opinion, it's one of the few Jewel songs that benefits from have other instrumentation.. It just doesn't sound as good solo.. 2 - Been Down So Long --> I'd like the original acoustic version of 'Down So Long' to be released.. I like the version on Spirit (in my opinion, it's one of the highlights of the CD), but sometimes I'm really just in the mood for the more mellow version with the extra lyrics.. 3 - Summertime --> I completely forgot about this one until I saw Fabio mention it in his post.. True, it's not written by her, but I think she could really bluesy with this one.. You know, add a lot of layers of bass, drums, brass instruments.. Just shock the hell out of us.. 4 - Break Me --> I'd really like a slow, sad solo acoustic version of the song.. It's really beautiful.. One of my favorite of her latest batch of songs.. 5 - Angel (Cowboy Waltz) --> I'm thinking completely solo, just really simple and low-key like any good country song.. With a nice long yodel at the end.. 6 - Angel Needs A Ride --> I'm really happy to hear that Jewel's thinking of putting a reworked version of this one on the new CD.. I think it has the makings of a classic, and the original could be greatly improved on.. 7 - Everything Breaks --> The lyrics to this song really cut to the bone the first time I heard it.. I think it could be redone with more complex instrumentation.. Actually, I think a lot of Jewel's early songs could benefit greatly from more complex guitar and instruments.. 8 - Studies In Love #12 --> Case in point.. The guitars in this song are really simple and repetitive, but the lyrics are great.. She might want to rename it; not sure how she feels about that namin every song Studies In Love idea.. Or maybe not, it's kinda catchy.. 9 - Louisa and Her Blue Guitar --> Now this song is amazing.. It's as great now as it was the first time I heard it.. The lyrics and music are perfect.. I think it should be untouched from her previous version.. Just give us a studio-quality version.. Mmm.. =) 10 - Grey Matter --> I love the chorus to this song.. I don't know, it's always been one of my favorite Jewel songs.. 'Nuff said.. 11 - 1000 Miles Away --> Another solo acoustic piece of perfection.. I remember hearing this for the first time on Hard Rock Live.. I fell in love.. 12 - I'll Follow You Down --> I don't know the exact name of this song, but it's another one of my favorites of her new songs.. Classic.. It's great.. =) scott.evans [[crazy is just YOU and ME. It was by an EDA, Angela Dilulio, on the first EDA Cover Tape.. Mike kindly sent me a copy two or three years ago, and I loved the version, so I hunted for it performed by Jewel.. Which leads me to the following question: What's going on with the second EDA Cover tape? That MAXMOUZE guy who was compiling it is gone from the list I think, so maybe we should start it over again.. There's some amazing musicians on this list.. Nancy Micciulla, Luna Taylor, Rizioule, Amy Emerman.. And all the people who aren't doing it professionally too.. Is anyone willing to compile the tape and start the tree? I'd do it, but my recording equipment isn't that great of quality, and it would be really cool to see this tape get back in the making.. =) scott.evans [[crazy is just YOU and ME. It has a snowball's chance in hell, so I'm adding it to my imaginary cd that I sent to the list an hour ago as a hidden track! lol! If you don't know the story, the song was a song Jewel did as a session singer early early on.. Rick Dees played it on his countdown after 'Down So Long'.. It's a pretty funny story.. An artist has to sell 4 million copies of their first album to break even with the costs the record company hits them with. Artists have to pay for promotion, time in the studio, music videos, etc. The record companies give them up front money, but they end up paying it back pretty quick like. She probably didn't make much at all on Joy yet. The only reason Jewel is doing ok is because she is a singer/songwriter. Just to give an example: U2 would not have made a sent until after the Joshua Tree had it not been for the fact that Bono and Edge write the songs. What great timing! MacExpo New York for all you EDA Mac-heads out there (I wonder if the J-team will drop in and look to upgrade their Macintoshes?) on July 18-19th, followed by an EDA gathering in Central Park before watching Jewel headline at the FREE Pro-Voice show, then a two hour Friday drive to spend a weekend with EDAs at the fifth annual Bearsville campout near Woodstock! I have already registered for four Pro-Voice tickets (stretching the rules there a bit, I know), so an NYC EDA Gathering for the 19th is a foregone conclusion for me. Here's the surprise announcement: I am willing to offer a spot in my tent for Jewel if she agrees not to say further mean things to me and kick in on the bacon 'n eggs breakfast fund. If she agrees to sing along at the Friday and Saturday night EDA campfires, she's also fulfilled the promise to "do it again" (that is, play another "Jewelstock" for the EDAs). Besides, I have a score to even with the Kilcher clan after Shayne Kilcher's "WWF spinning backbreakers" in our poolside demonstation two summers ago. While Shayne still outweighs me by a good 50 pounds, I think I can take his sister in a best-of-three pool wrestling match. I really do. Jewel's gotten used to the good life, become a little complacent, and well, I feel my time has come. How would such a match go? Obviously, I'd let Jewel win the first one just to make her overconfident (and to get pinned by her at least once in my life ;-). Advantage Jewel, 1-0. With the pressure on, I'd immediate assume Jewel's own patented "pee stance" (her words, not mine), and do one of those Matrix-style slo-mo 360 degree moves. Jewel would be so busy laughing I would easily get the drop on her. Tie match at 1-1. After being pried off Ms. Kilcher by concerned fans, the "rubber match" would commence. Now here's where I'd need my fellow EDA support. Circled by EDAs, who would alternately slowly lasso and quickly yodel (ie, EDA #1 swing a lasso, EDA #2 yodel, EDA #3 swing a lasso, and so forth -- sorta like the villagers using the hand drums in the big scene from the "Karate Kid Part 2"), I feel Jewel would taken to a total zen-like state, and I would be VERY amused. At that point, well, who would have the advantage? I do not know. But it would make a hell of a spectacle, eh? :-) See y'all at Bearsville, where pretty much anything is possible... Hi Guys, Don't know how many of you realise this, but Sarah McLachlan has a remix project released on June 26th in Canada - see www.sarahmclachlan.com for details... As for Jewel doing it, I think not. Ditto for Dido being mediocre... not her fault she was sampled by Eminem, and Thank You has been a big chart success in it's own right. We can't blame other talented artists for Atlantic records being inept at promoting Jewel overseas. Bear in mind she hasn't released a new album since 1998 (bar "Joy", and I'm still trying to erase that whole sorry episode from my memory), so there's been nothing *to* promote. The climate is different musically in the UK now, and I can see a new record doing well... *IF* it's promoted. However, I think it's worth noting that Jewel played some larger venues in the same cities that she toured previously on the Spirit tour - IE she moved from the Debating Hall to the Academy in Manchester.
