I wasn't gonna post my list... but, ah, what the hell ;) Sheryl Crow - love, love, love! the Live Sheryl Crow and Friends album. Destiny's Child - These ladies are fantastic! Really nice mix of r&b, soul and even gospel 80s Madonna - Give me "like a prayer" or "material girl" anyday - i just love it ;) Dixie Chicks - ooooh, i just love Natalie Maine's voice - it's so unique Backstreet Boys - ok, ok - i'm a closet fan... but have you heard them sing a cappella? They're so talented! Anastacia - Love Anastacia - she's so funky. Another very unique voice. The Corrs - I'm going to see them live in October - yay! I love irish things, and these guys are no exception. Dido - Dido's really soothing - and there's alot of emotion in her voice. Really great to put on in the background and relax too. Goo Goo Dolls - I don't know what i can say about these guys - they've just got something. I have a real appreciation for thier lyrics i think. Skunk Anansie - kind of off on a tangent from the rest of my faves - but Skunk are great! Screaming and guitars... alriiiight. Fiona Apple - Whoops.. that's 11 - but i had to include Fi! I love the combination of the piano and her voice - there's something very soulful and sexy about it. But of course.... no one even comes close to Jewel ;) Stace xxoo ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 May 2001 04:35:44 -0700 (PDT) From: liz lee Subject: [EDA] A little Juel haiku I really like her The way she plays her guitar moves me to sing too :) We started poetry in my English class. What Jewel needs to (re)launch her singing career is a major artist to sample or remix one of her songs. It worked for Dido. Turning a mediocre singer into a global star. It would be a major boost for Jewel's career. One of the greatest singers around, who surely deserves global success. I think that Jewel would put more into a country CD. She seems to really love country things, and her "country" isn't what most people think of as country. There is more to it. Jewel's rock, well....as much as I love her isn't really "rock". She tends to make almost parody rock songs. I enjoy them, however I would never really catagorize them as true rock. To me she is almost a genre in herself. I've never been able to catagorize her; although her music is generally found in the Pop section of music stores. I don't find her music to be pop, rock, country, or folk oriented. I think in many ways she resembles what our her generation has found about itself. We are a largely eclectic generation and I say this is due to our upbringing. Our parents were caught between Sandra Dee and Seventies metal. How can we not be confused considering this is what we grew up listening to?!? I think it's a good thing to be interested in a variety of music as opposed to strictly one type. This could also be a reason so many of us love Jewel as much as we do. She gives us the variety we crave. OK.....so I'm long winded today. 2nd part: I think a re-mix would raise Jewel's popularity with the younger generations, such as Backstreet Boys and Brittany Spears fans. Let's face it, a "remix" simply means making a song danceable (I'm creating a word here! LOL) It would just make one of her songs more "pop", which is what the younger generations tend to listen to. Well Derrick, was that a long enough answer for you! LOL Kristie >>> "Karacostas, Derrick W." 05/30/2001 11:12:42 AM >>> This is a 2-parter... What would you rather see happen: A. Jewel's next CD being a country CD. B. Jewel's next CD being a rock CD. C. A remix of a Jewel single (past or future), by a rapper. I would have to say D, which is none of the above: I'd love to see some of her old music released on cd (Angel Needs A Ride, God's Gift To Women, Rocker Girl, Emily what have you...). Even though I have angelfood on tape and all, nothing would beat a CD, espcially if it was a 2 cd set (although considering how many songs she has, an ideal collection would prolly be more than two cds). Do you think a remix of a single would help further her career and help her success? A. Yes B. No C. Not sure C-I suppose. Depending on if it was the right song, a rap remix *might* work but I don't know...it would all depend on the song. As for being sampled, has that happend already?! She can try country when her career is fading and nobody cares anymore (except us). I've never liked rap by anyone so I'd hate to hear one of her singles performed that way. Part Two: B Her career and success is going well. She doesn't need to dig out something old. That would seem desperate. I would prefer to see a live album from her last major US tour as someone else mentioned. They brought vinyl back. Why not live albums? A live video performance of a whole show would be cool too.
