Subject: [EDA] clarification Since Sarah is going to mention names now, yes I pointed this out to her, but I wasn't the only one "thinking" this by any means. I'm just simply the one who came forward. Furthermore, Sarah then retracted her previous statement about the cover charge saying it was the other bands idea, not Luna's, and that it was to help them with some financial problems they're having right now. Of course this is up to them as they can do whatever they choose to. This made more sense to me, but then I suggested maybe for her to write a new e-mail with this clarification. For example, those coming to the show to see Luna play (as would be the case for most people on the Jewel or Tara lists) could simply give a "donation". This would leave it up to the individuals rather than having some set fee in advance. However, those going to see the other band could still pay the required $8 admission fee to help them out. Where the covered dish comes into all this I didn't clarify...haha. But I guess regardless, there will be plenty of food to go around if everyone in attendance does bring food. :-) For the record, I never assumed whose idea the $8 was. I simply inquired about it, and when I was told, it did make more sense to me. Which is why I then suggested a sort of "update" letter be written about it. I never once implied the cover charge was Sarah's or Luna's idea, as I didn't know. I just found this a bit unusual, regardless of the reason. Once I received more information, it became clearer. - -----Original Message----- From: Twinkletoes131@cs.com To: jewel@smoe.org; in-the-wings@linus.mitre.org Sent: 5/16/01 7:35 PM Subject: [EDA] NJC/NTC: Luna's LRC Hey, everyone! As Derrick has pointed out to me, the $8 admission charge to the LRC is a bit unusual. All money collected will go straight to the bands, both who are traveling from outside the city to come in and play. For those who are uncomfortable with the $8 charge, donations will be accepted in leau of the admission fee. Yuck! I'm glad we got that part over with. The whole point is to come, relax and enjoy the evening. Hope to see you there! :) *Sarah* ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 May 2001 11:05:19 +0100 From: "Rowley" Subject: [EDA] Angel Food Wanted Does anyone have good quality Angelfood on CD? i have about 100 Angelfood MP3's but I want some complete shows. Hello, I'm Billy I've posted once or twice in the last year and a half. My first question is who runs the smoe.org? I know it's not just a Jewel thing, but many other lists about sick artists, right? Who ever set this whole organization up, mad props to you! With out this, alot of us would never will have/had the chance to meet, talk, and socialize. Thank you! Second, There was some brief talk a few months ago about Jewels cover of "You Make Lovin' Fun". The only people I remember hearing from said they didn't think it did the original justice or just wasn't good. I know it's really hard to cover a song and do it in a good way. I love Fleetwood, but personally I think Jewels version is better. I know I'm bias, but even my girlfriend, who loves Stevie Nicks, thinks Jewels version is better. I know some folks disagree and I want to hear your opinions. Mainly I wanta know what peoples favorite covers are? My next favorite is Deftones cover of Sades "No Ordinary Love". Also, I always here about the LRCs down in Texas, whats going on with all the up and comers in Cali, espcially NoCal? Is Luna going to swoop through here any time soon? I've heard through you folks she's got skills and from what I heard on her site, she does. I'm going to get her album in the next week or two. But there is nothing like a true artist in person. And most randomly, do any of you like the Simpsons? Their the best thing to hit t.v. science t.v.. Hey, if you can't laugh at your self, which thier is a littel bit of all of us in the Simpsons, then what gives you the right to laugh at any one else. Shur told LAUNCH about the collaboration on Tuesday (May 15) at the BMI Pop Awards in Beverly Hills, California, where "Smooth"was honored for the second consecutive year by the performing rights organization as one of the 50 most performed songs of the year. "Jewel's great. Yeah, we wrote some amazing songs together," he said. "We wrote like six, five songs already... Yeah, you never know, because [with] songwriting you can never judge anybody." Shur told LAUNCH how he hooked up with the singer- songwriter. "It was at a Warner-Chappell writing conference in Nashville. We met there and me, her, and this guy named Caesar, who is another writer, all really just locked heads." Jewel is in the process of screening producers for her next album, which will be her first collection of original material since 1998's Spirit. - --Craig Rosen, Los Angeles - ------- Chris. http://www.jewelfan.co.uk : Jewel - Pieces Of UK ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 May 2001 12:21:04 EDT From: Minnie822@aol.com Subject: [EDA] You can sleep while i drive hello this song is avalable at "angel needs a ride" at www.fortunecity.com/tinpan/kurtwood/152 in real audio form diana ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 May 2001 12:09:58 -0400 From: David & Beth Katz Subject: Re: [EDA] This, that, and some other thing... I love Fleetwood, but personally I think >Jewels version is better. I would actually agree with this. I don't want to offend any Fleetwood fans because I know how passionate people get about this. (It's scary to think that people will someday be doing covers of 'old Jewel tunes,' which I already know wont be as good as the original.) lol. Jewel's version sounded more lush and full. I do perfer her voice, especially the way she uses her lilt, though I wish Nicks had sang lead on the original. The cool thing about Jewel's version was what she did with the guitar parts, I think it lends a little more attitude. That could just be me though. I must admit I heard Jewel's version first, and I find that people tend to like the song they fell in love with first more often then not. Though I did become bit of a 'Mack' fan after I listened to 'Legacy.' > Mainly I wanta know what peoples favorite covers are? As for favorite covers, this is probably cheating but I perfer Pink Floyd's Pulse version of 'Comfortably Numb' to the original. That's about it though. There really seems to be something about the energy the writer brings to performing their own music. The one other honorable mention for me is Tori Amos doing 'Teen Spirit.' However, she isn't really trying to reproduce Curt (I love Nirvana, and that song by the way), she makes it a different song, her own. I think using lyrics like a blank canvas, and inserting your style is the only way to make a cover of any good song. Otherwise you just end up with a bad impression of a good thing. On a somewhat related note. I don't like any of Jewel's radio remixes of her songs as much as the originals. Not even close. Anyone else find that? Thanks for reading. Charles.
