Plane tickets are way cheaper. You don't have to pay toll's to get out of NYC. And it's a straight drive up the parkway to bearsville, don't have to get risk getting lost driving through the Bronx. This is what I did last year and it was great. My tickets to fly in from FL are going to cost about 150$ and the rental car from enterprise is only 110$ they beat the other companies by about 100$. You could also try flying into Albany but I haven't tried that. Best to avoid the NYC airports there's no reason to pay more. If you need more info just let me know. LOL >If so, then if everyone is abnormal, why does the word normal even exist? It exists 'cause we have a paranoid urge to classify and tag everything, or we feel incomplete, or heaven help us -- different! The concept of "normal" is simply a baseline. If 51% of a group do something, it's considered "normal" -- or, in the case of behavior, "acceptable". For instance, take these totally arbitrary criteria and evaluate yourself: 1) The normal operating system on the average computer is a Windows variant. 2) The normal (US) dining experience is McDonald's. 3) The normal (US) shopping experience is Wal*Mart. 4) The normal person is female. 5) The normal ethnic group is asian. 6) The normal spiritual belief is NOT based on christianity. 7) The normal sexual preference is heterosexual. 8) The normal voter in the last US presidential election voted for the losing candidate. 9) The normal person NEVER discusses Jewel. Five or more matches scores you as "normal". Four or less and you're ABNORMAL based on this criteria! *damn* I myself scored a "2"... ABNORMAL for sure. I'd make an educated guess that Jewel scores a "3", maybe a "4". ABNORMAL. How did you do? Did anyone score perfectly NORMAL? BTW, do not fear words, tags or stereotypes. They exist for a reason, even if the reason basically sucks ;-) Normally I stay out of these discussions, but this one is so friggin' abnormal I couldn't resist. (Oh wait, on this list this is a normal topic... nevermind!) Geez people.... When *I* originally said that "Jewel is a normal person like the rest of us." I meant SIMPLY that she is a human being like the rest of us. Humans have faults. No one is perfect all the time (No one is perfect at all!). So in that, she is a "normal person", Meaning she is not supernatural. She does not have supernatural powers. She is not a superbreed, or a goddess no matter how much you believe her to be, or how much you worship her. She's not a circus sideshow (but by the way alotta y'all see her, she oughtta be). So she made a few records. So she has a charity. So she went from having no money to having millions. Sure these aren't exactly normal ACHIEVEMENTS, but she is really just an everyday person just like you and I. And unless you can scientifically prove she is not a normal person (meaning HUMAN, or homosapien), she will always BE a normal person, despite whatever she achieved in her life. So incase any of you have not gotten it yet... "normal person" (at least in my context) simply means a human being. if she is not supernatural, she is a normal human being! cymbie tree hugger - -- when night falls it's dawn one must reach for. - -a. camus ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Apr 2001 13:11:40 EDT From: W1GGY2@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] Jewel"The Charitable One" Joe, I think you're missing the point a little regarding Jewel publicizing her charitable acts. I don't think she does that to be patted on the back but rather to get the message out and get as many people involved as possible. In my opinion that's the very best thing one can do with celebrity. Really, what the underlying theme of this conversation has been is humans, not people, because people can be any creature that has a population. The assumption is here that humans are the only ones who have the title people, when in truth, the only exclusive title humans have is human. Not to muck over the "normal" issue anew, but since it is based on majority standards,(at least IF that has been established) it may naturally lead to show that a "normal person" is not necessarily a human, but a populous creature that has the most simple functions, breath, heartbeat, thought, etc. This didn't start with your comment, however, if you mean human being, you should state it specifically, for assumption leads to intentions ill traveled path. There is no need to defend her divinity. All I may do is help with a philosophy which may assist your understanding. It's called "thinking out of the box" and you have doubtless heard it's credo, there are no problems, only solutions. In essence, this means that you limit yourself, and the possibility of this world by speaking negatively. You tell me it cannot be so, that my belief, reinforced with the beliefs of ancient nations, is impossible. I wonder who it is that made you the authority on what is divine. Discouraging the world from embracing the divinity in themselves is to leave a vacuum which will inevitably filled with the vices. Do you really want to degrade the ideal inspirations because you are too afraid to free yourself from vice, or do you believe that what Jewel says is spiritually inept? If the former, then stand amongst the common, I will strive to that life uncommon, away from your cherished normalcy. I shall make gods of stone from men of clay, while you maintain the statement that nothing can be sacred but what you believe. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Apr 2001 16:14:22 EDT From: Tlcathome@aol.com Subject: [EDA] NJC: The Wedding :-) First off, Congratulations to Tom and Rachel on their marriage :-) The wedding was beautiful. I am for whatever she wants to do. If she: 1] wants to take her husbands name 2] wants to hyphenate her name and make it look stupid 3] wants to make her husband take her name I am very anti-imposing. In the same line of reasoning, I also think it very cruel to impose hyphenated names upon the children. :P Gerrit ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Apr 2001 17:29:44 -0400 From: "Scott Evans" Subject: Re: [EDA] Pics Jewel is so amazingly beautiful. I hope everyone is excited about the opportunity to do some good for our environment - the beach clean-up is only about 2 weeks away :-) The Campbell Inn (and Pub?) will be open again for the weekend for wayward EDA beach bummers :-) As usual, I expect many will arrive Friday afternoon/evening and the remainder will either meet us here Saturday morn or right at the beach (remeber, the cleanup begins at the beach at 10am). For you New Yorkers who need it, there is a train station very close to our beach... After the cleanup, we'll have a mexican fiesta/potluck here at the campbell inn, so bring something with a mexican flare if you can :-) For those who don't need to take off right away on Sunday, I'm thinking maybe a run to Great Adventure :-) Please send me an RSVP ASAP if you plan to attend and let me know if you need directions to our place :-) Here are the attendees so far, please let me know if I've missed anyone (I'm sure I have...)!! Eric Montas Tom Miles (maybe) Vicki Miles (maybe) Laura Marion Bill Bartholomew Kelly Gallagher Paul Kim (maybe) Steve Messina (maybe) Abel Rosario Can't wait to see all these familiar faces, but we need to see some new ones too!!! I will be contacting the campground this week, so if you think you might want to attend, feel free to contact me at AnnualBearsville@aol.com so I can give them an idea about the number of attendees :-) I know it seems early to some, but you never know how quickly the catskill campgrounds will fill up and how many attendees might need to request time off ASAP :-) Again, send any inquiries to AnnualBearsville@aol.com - I'll do my best top respond in reasonable time ;-) Tammy :-) ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V6 #159 ***************************
