You already know that Jewel appreciates your support of Clearwater, but for those unsure whether Clearwater Project donations would be an appropriate idea, in terms of Jacque's memory, it's relevant to read this message from Jewel's brother Shane. He wanted me to pass this along to you. Read on. ******************************* Greetings EDAs, I know Jewel will be touched to recieve a birthday gift dedicated to Jacque's memory. And I think a gift of clean water would really be a gift to both of them. In some of our brochures and in the Clearwater video message from Jewel and Lenedra, they tell a story of being in the jungle with a friend, drinking from water bottles, when the native elder they had been meeting with told them to please stop. He said most of the world really can't afford to buy bottled water, and that whenever we buy our water from a factory, all purified and bottled up, then it only makes it less likely that the real problem will be addressed. What many of you may not know is that the friend they were traveling with WAS Jacque, and the goals and visions for Clearwater are as much hers as Lenedras and Jewels. In-fact, Jacques eldest son is Clearwaters Executive Director and has really been instrumental in making this project what it is. Her other son, Brandon, occasionally travels with Clearwater as a videographer; they are both very passionate about the project. So donating to Clearwater in Jacques honor would be a perfect gift. Well once again you guys have really impressed me with your thoughtfulness. I think this really is the perfect gift idea. I have no idea what Im going to get her. The other day I was commenting to Jewel that her B-Day was getting near, asking her what she wanted, and mentioned that I was reminded of it by the EDAS. She said, Yeah arent they great? Im really lucky to have them. As far as what I want for my birthday, well I have no idea; Im kind of hard to shop for, arent I? I wouldnt even know what to buy for myself. I think you all have found the perfect gift. I, on the other hand, still have no idea what to get her. MrBB ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Apr 2001 20:10:57 -0400 From: "Scott Evans" Subject: [EDA] NJC: Eva Cassidy I've been recommending a number of artists recently which have gotten some positive responses, so I would like to recommend a new artist for you all.. One that will not disappoint anyone I can say with 99% assurance.. Her name is Eva Cassidy.. You may have heard of her in the news recently.. One of her albums, Songbird, is (or was recently, I'm not sure) Number 1 on the British albums charts and is getting cult followings in the US now.. Now this normally wouldn't be strange, except for the fact that Eva Cassidy has been dead for five years.. The recent uproar over her was started when a BBC radio disc jockey started playing Eva's cover of the classic "Over The Rainbow" in 1999.. It triggered immediate responses, and once one hears Eva's voice, all of the commotion is understood.. In the best analogy I can present, I would say that Eva's voice most closely resembles mixing the crystalline quality of Jewel's voice and the bluesy heartbreak of Diana Krall's voice.. But words cannot convey the magic of hearing this woman sing.. It tugs at the heart like so terribly few have done in the past 50 years.. Please, if you get the chance, check out Eva Cassidy's cover of 'Over The Rainbow' or the beautiful 'Songbird' anywhere you can find them.. I wouldn't recommend listening to clips.. The songs are an experience, and clips at places like Amazon.com just don't do them justice.. As much as I hate to mention it, I'd try out an mp3 or two...you know where...and then get her album Songbird...It's amazing.. scott.evans [[crazy is just YOU and ME. Think about it.. At least for many of you, Jewel has been an overwhelming inspiration.. I know, personally speaking, that she has helped me out at many crappy times in my life in a way that only she could do.. What better way could we express our gratitude to her than to show her that we not only supported Clearwater in the beginning, but we will continue to do so as it follows through its course.. You might say that you don't have much money, but I'm 15 years old with no job and no steady source of income.. If I can scrounge up $20 for the cause, then 95% of you all can, I'm sure.. Wait out on the CD or movie you've been waiting to buy for just another couple of weeks and use that money to help a great cause (and make Jewel feel really good at the same time ;-)).. I'm sure most of us can sacrifice at LEAST $5 for Clearwater. I know alot of us say we're college students with no money, (and I'm sure alot of us ARE college students), but I'm sure alot of us (except the youngin's) have jobs. Its not so hard to part w/ $5. Most of my money goes towards buying film, photo paper, and other such photo supplies (that stuff is WAYYYYYYYY to expensive! almost $75 for a pack of 100 sheets of paper!) but I'm going to use the money I'd spend buying cigarettes (i'm doing horrible on quitting, btw. lol), and I wont go to a bar (gonna miss those tequila sunrises), so that'll give me at least some money that I can actually do good with. Don't think $5 will make a difference? It CAN... If we all gave $5, there's at least 2000 people on this list. Thats $10,000. Damn... thats alot of money.... forget clearwater. Everyone send me $5, so I can get that awesome (and beautiful) Taylor PS guitar! :) But seriously.... I'd like to see more than 20 EDAs give money this time. How about 100? Do I hear 150? 200? How about a little EDA cheer! Rah! Rah!
