Well, being a songwriter, I know what it's like to have people read stuff into your song and then you hear about it and you are like "WHAT ?!?!?" From what I can tell, Jewel was just having a little fun with words in a theme (this one being space, planets and all that good astronomical stuff). I believe for the most part, all she is saying is that the person makes her feel so nuts about them that she really feels she could do something crazy (..i.e., "you make me so crazy, baby...swallow the moon). Now, it may mean more than that, but I don't think it's some kind of porno song. People tend to read waaaaay too much into art and music. I paint and write songs and I get a good laugh sometimes when I do something, then ask people what they think it means. You get some crazy answers sometimes. My feeling is this: Listen to it once, carefully, the first time you ever hear a song...whatever your first impression is, that's usually what it means. If you try to overanalyze it, you start to get some weird stuff going on. I have Poltz's "One Left Shoe" and wanted to give the Rugburns a shot.. The three albums I found were 'Mommy I'm Sorry', 'Morning Wood', and 'Taking the World by Donkey'. Which do you guys think is the best, or the best to start out with at least? The news programs are in it for the money, not to help humanity or prevent future news stories. We live in a really chaotic, twisted, violent, desensitized society which would rather try to get into the minds of the "psychos", than hear a sob story about some poor children who lost there lives while at school trying to learn and make some thing of their lives. As much as this may suck, the majority builds the ratings and the ratings bring more paying advertising corporations to the television network; and being that all that matters is money, this is what fuels the focus of news stories as well as what stories air at all. Watch the news and pay attention to the stories; in fact watch anything on television and look to see if you ever see any thing really disturbing or radical. You may see some disturbing violence, but I guarantee that you will never see any thing about the coruption of our political system and the media by corporations. Corporations run this country, like it or not, they do. Since this is true, television is kept relatively blah because if a television program really got people to think, it would get them out of a buying mood and this would hinder the influence of the comercials. Which would be so bad!!!!!! There is a man by the name of Noam Chompsky who is a linguistics proffesor. He has written some books on linguistics, but he has also written some books on propoganda and politics. He is the 5th? most quoted author next to Plato... some might say a genius, others would say he's just awake. Anyway, one of his books entitled: Manufactured Consent is a very interesting book on propaganda and touches heavily on the subject I've brought up in regards to this question to the list about the media coverage on the shooting in CA. It is one of the core requsites in most college advertising programs. What can I say but the world is fucked up and the 60's failed bringing about lethargy on a large scale to the activist scene. The powerful are just so powerful and with so many resources, that a band of people with their eyes open and little or no resources have little chance; look at where standing up to Big Brother got Abbie Hoffman and tell me what you think we can do and how we should go about it. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 07 Mar 2001 09:28:25 -0500 From: "Devin Starr" Subject: [EDA] RE: Misunderstanding with Jupiter... Saturn swallowed his children, later Jupiter (Zeus) defeated him and made him return his children, the moons. In astrological events, in Ancient Greece, Before Saturns explosion, It ws visable of something like a sun, Jupiter over took its postion, forcing it into a new orbit. Jupiter, by density is the more powerful planet and the only one that could ever force a planet of Saturns size out of its orbit and create a new one. So Jupiter a representation of a god, perhaps her new love for the person is making her feel like she could do anything, like she has some euphoric godlike feeling from this love. Just my view. Hi! I was wondering if anyone had or know where I can get pictures of Jewel Unplugged, JewelStock, Jewel Rocks the Rockies and VH1 Storytellers. Thank you, Mirko P.S.- I'm just listening to Little Bird in JewelStock, and I was wondering if the live version sang by Lenedra in JewelStock, is the same as the one included in Spirit (not counting Jewel's harmony vocals of course)? Lenedra's voice sounds exactly the same in both of them, and credits in Spirit says recorded live in Bearsville, NY. Yep, "This Little Bird" on Spirit is the exact same track that was recorded at JewelStock and that's available on the JewelStock Tapes. For the Spirit recording of "This Little Bird" they used Lenedra's vocals from Jewelstock and Jewel recorded her vocals the summer of 1998 when they recorded Spirit. I just wanna clarify that ONLY Lenedra's vocals to "This Little Bird" (on Spirit) are the exact same track recorded at Jewelstock and that are available on the JewelStock Tapes. Jewel did not duet with Lenedra on "This Little Bird" at JewelStock. Jewel's vocals for that song on Spirit, as I said were recorded two years later at the Spirit sessions. (although Jewel DID duet with Lenedra on "Face Of Love" at JewelStock) Mike :-) I wrote: > Yep, "This Little Bird" on Spirit is the exact same track that was recorded at > JewelStock and that's available on the JewelStock Tapes. > For the Spirit recording of "This Little Bird" they used Lenedra's vocals > from Jewelstock and Jewel recorded her vocals the summer of 1998 > when they recorded Spirit. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 07 Mar 2001 13:47:17 -0500 From: Lucas Holt Subject: Re: [EDA] Quick question...shooting. The only problem with putting metal detectors in schools is that it creates a prison. Do we really want you people to feel like a prison? What is next? Putting metal detectors in Shopping malls, fast food restaurants, and gas stations? Throwing money at a situation does not help. What needs to be done is to get help to children and teens who are depressed, hurt, angry, and have experienced abuse. These events are society's fault and so the only real solution is to change society. In some cases, hitting children creates this problem. A "spanking" is just the same as hitting someone, just a little lighter. It appears you expressed some Christian beliefs.. if that is true, you will see that voilence under any circumstances is wrong. kevin maguire wrote: > I was watching the news this morning, and from what i saw today, was more of > a focus on the victims.
