It talks about things that used to be 'hot' but they have died down...at the bottom it says: Folk goddesses: Where have Jewel and Alanis Morissette gone? The pic is an old one, though. I have a burner so I can customize a CD for whoever is interested and I have LOTS of songs. But if anyone would like to trade let me know! (NYC in particular because I'm from NYC :) I'm one who lives for going to concerts and gigs and stuff, so.. yeah :) Please, if interested, let me know if you are a performer and if you have any gigs coming up in the area... I would like to check some of you out. Thanks :) Take care, Jason "The Heavy Metal Angel" ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Mar 2001 18:26:59 EST From: JewelK512@gateway.net Subject: [EDA] Jewel and Moby Ok guys, I've not found out that much about Jewel and Moby, but in surfing the web, I found that they were at some sort of benefit concert. Alan correct me if any of this is untrue. It says that Jewel and Moby did sing a song, Moby on guitar, Jewel doing vocals and they sang "Your Song". Elsewhere, I read that Moby said that he and Jewel spent hours in his/her dressing room, playing guitar, playing piano, singing, and otherwise having a great time. Another source says that there was a photographer in the room. This was from a Moby newsletter, and it was so rudely stated that a photo was taken of Jewel's head on Moby's lap and "Yes, it fit." Thought I'd update you guys, in case you were wondering why Jewel has a tendency to mention Moby, both in her book and in the Bits and Baubles CD. Moby has confirmed that they are good friends now and that they were or still are planning to do a song together. You didn't say it and I misread the statement. I have some questions to begin with. Why do teacher teach about War? Why do we need to learn about the Franco-Prussian war? Why do we have to know about different conquests that are not directly involving us? One reason, and of course there are many, but one main reason is to raise our awareness. It gives us a starting or an end point to learn from. With rap music some of the violent songs tell you what has been and will be if we don't change. When you speak of inspiration, if you listen to a lot of the different rap songs you'll notice how they have started with nothing and were able to overcome their BAD childhood and make something of themselves and make a difference. Anybody can turn on the radio and listen to some of the ignorant rap that is out there and make judgements on what rap is. The same holds true for any music form. There is ignorance in any type of music but when we directly translate from lyrics we don't hear the overall meaning. I'm not defending ALL rap, but I'm also not defending ALL music either. Some of the so-called artists make a sound that will hopefully sell real fast so they can take the money and run. Or play to the masses about what's selling at the time and change their views and opinions if they don't sell. To me, that's morally wrong but a lot of rappers don't do that. They stick to what they have experienced and what they feel and they express it. All Rap doesn't seek out to kill all Jews and white people, but I won't say there are not any songs that do though. It swings both ways thanks to the ignorant world of racism. Basically, all I'm saying is don't dismiss a whole genre because one rapper said "He hates white people". He's obviously a moron. And, despite what some other list members think, rap is a culture and a music form and has a life of it's own. You can like what you like and everything is not "stereotypical", just people that don't know any better and have not experienced certain aspects in life. And yes Jewel was in a rap group. Also, have you ever heard "Under The Water"? That would be rap inside the song, no argument made, it's rap. Once last thought before I end this. I hate the color Yellow and so should everybody else damnit!! It's the color of urine and urine is bad, so Yellow is bad, and if you like the color Yellow you like Urine and should be outcast. Now how stupid does that sound and compare that to what we're talking about. I can explain it to you but just try to figure it out for yourselves. Yup I'm a performance poet doing gigs in my local area, now and then, supporting accoustic musicians. If anyone wants me to post samples of my books please say. I'll give you one example of my work now. Again no point copying it as my solicitor holds an unopened letter containing originals dating last year which has copyrighted the work, ALSO this one has been published! Its called: TO THE SPECIAL PERSON WHO NEVER CALLED I cannot tell you i love you, Words fall short of emotional grasp; I cannot tell you what it means to me, To hear your voice: The slightest Gasp... I cannot tell you i want you, Lyrics would fail your grace; I cannot tell you how my heart beats, At the fleeting glimpse of your face. I cannot tell you i love you, Songs don't play my heart beat; I cannot tell you my deepest thoughts, As you approach me; "Take a seat." I cannot tell you i love you, My head only wishes I could; I cannot tell you what you mean to me, If i could find a voice...I would. Thanx for your time! The poem has such simplicity, but so much meaning, in those little words I interpreted that Jewel was scared you know...but then she realized that it was worth it, she wanted to share so much with the guy, and tho she doesn't express it on the poem, with those simple lines you can see how much she wants it. It's a beatiful poem. But that's not my fave only, cause I have 2 :) of the entire book, the one I mentioned before and "Lost" lorrie said it all with that one. And Lorrie, the track listing is : Tracks: 1. God's Gift to Women 2. Intro 3. I'm Sensitive (live) 4. Who Will Save Your Soul 5. Race Car Driver (demo version) 6. Flower 7. I'm Sensitive 8. Emily Bonus Tracks: 9. Who Will Save Your Soul (live w/Steve Poltz) 10. Foolish Games (live) 11. Sunshine Superman 12. Under the Water Hope it helps, thanks. (you guys are awesome.) that said... this summer, in honor of the culmination of my last four years of school and independence day, i'm embarking on a west coast living room concert/coffeehouse tour. i plan on hitting up vancouver, seattle, portland, san francisco, los angeles, and san diego (my soon-to-be hometown :)). if you're interested in hosting a LRC for about 20-30 people in late june/early july and live on the west coast (not necessarily in those particular cities, anywhere on the west coast is ok!), please email me asap at twinklegrl@aol.com and we'll see what we can work out. :) thanks and sorry for clogging up the list with more self-promotion and jewel-less content :P erin erinwaters.com | twinklegirl.com "something that you feel will find its own form." -jack kerouac ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Mar 2001 22:16:50 -0500 From: "cymbaline" Subject: Re: [EDA] NJC: I just saw Matchbox 20 lol Okay, I've got a great idea! I'll start a obsessed-jewel-freaks mailing list for all those people, who like jewel and only jewel, and only want to converse about jewel, day in and day out, and never talk about anything else, because jewel is the center of the universe, and she shall be worshipped like the goddess she is. come on people, this list is for jewel fans. that doesn't mean we can't have other interests besides jewel. but i guess being on a jewel list, means we have to stay faithful to our precious jewel, and only listen to her music, and only talk about her, and live our lives thinking out her on a daily basis, and thinking "WWJD" in situations... No, not "What Would Jesus Do?" but "What Would Jewel Do?". Ooooohhh Nooooooo..... what would jewel do if she saw me make fun of someone??? she'd be disappointed that a fan of hers would DO that! NO fan of jewel's should ever be mean to anyone at anytime for any reason.... so, if anyone's interested, I'll start a group at yahoogroups. obsessed-psycho-jewel-freaks@yahoogroups.com for all y'all who think that jewel is the queen of the universe, and only she shall be discussed.
