By simply liking Eminem's music doesn't automatically make Liz (or anyone else for that matter) an anti peace person. It just means that they enjoy his music-and nothing more. I doubt a huge percentage of his listeners go out and burn buildings, kill their mothers or burn flags (all anti peace/love/freedom things). True, there is the odd, obsessive fan, but for the most part people just listen to his music, they don't actually do the things Em raps about doing. Just my two cents here. I agree with Liz-let's just forget the whole Eminem matter. If you like him great, if you don't, fine-everyone is totally entitled to their opinion but let's disscuss something else. Well...I was flipping through Maxim and to my surprise, I found a little article on page 50 that included Jewel, titled, "Who Let the Doggerel Out?". It was actually about "celebrity poets", and started out "Like you, we stood in line to buy Jewel's new book. But she's not the only star to be goosed by the muse..." then went on to compare (a can you tell which from which, with the answers below) celebrity poets with real poets. Jewel was compared with Sylvia Plath, and ironically enough, it was the poem that someone quoted a few days ago, saying it reminded them of the song "Daddy"! Anyways, there is only a small photo of her ANWA, and a short quote from one of her poems, but just thought we could use some Jewel content :) and for those with the curiosity bug, the other poets were Ally Sheedy vs. William Shakespeare, Jimmy Carter vs. James Dickey, Leonard Nimoy vs. Anne Sexton, and Charlie Sheen vs. Allen Ginsberg. :) ~ Sandy ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Feb 2001 18:36:01 -0500 From: "cymbaline" Subject: Re: [EDA] rap hahaha..... i must say, that although i love those lyrics.... jewel really sounds like blondie when she raps. not vocally, just in style.... haha..... cymbie tree hugger - -- when night falls it's dawn one must reach for. - -a. camus - ----- Original Message ----- From: Barry Howarth To: Sent: Tuesday, February 27, 2001 6:12 PM Subject: [EDA] rap > Hi Angels, > With rap, as with all forms of music, there's good and not so good > and downright bad and brilliant. It's all promotion and marketing, nobody would even have recognized him without that often discussed content. If you like good music I suggest Nelly Furtado, her album Whoa Nelly is in my opinion the best album 2000 (not Dido, sorry:)) and Anya Marina, she writes really great songs, is a friend of Steve Poltz and one song is avaiable for free at mp3.com (search for anya marina) Andreas - -------------------------------- my Jewel website: http://www.efanguide.com/~jewel **37 new vidcap collections, Nelly Furtado special ... ** - -------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Feb 2001 19:54:41 EST From: Clm4ever1248@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Jewel Website!!! This list, Mariposa, will hopefully become a place for Luna's fans to discuss her music, share ideas, and basically maybe prod her out of hiding for a couple of shows =-) With tons of help from Mike Connell, I've had the chance to move the old Luna Taylor mailing list from yahoogroups to smoe.org, which I think can only strengthen the list, and at the very least we will not have to suffer the constant changing of names... To maintain integrity, and to urge the list members to really speak their mind, Luna is not subscribed to this list, though she has approved it. To contact her, please visit her website at: http://www.geocities.com/luna_taylor/index.htmlor email her at wildermond@hotmail.com. If you did not receive this email from the EDA or LT mailing lists, then I received your email address from Luna, as that you at some time or another showed interest in her music... Now that is all said, this is how to subscribe to the Mariposa mailing list:To subscribe send an email to "Mariposa-request@smoe.org" with "(subscribe" in the body of the message. (That's the body, not the subject line. ) Smoe.org's automated system will then send a confirmation email, and once you reply to that, the work is done, and you're on the list. A welcome message will also be mailed to you, detailing how to post, and all that good stuff...
