I have serious doubts. I >hope I'm wrong. :) Dee It's not official, and I know that Jewel's management does not know about it. However, keep in mind most fan clubs are not run by the artists' management. In this particular case it's just a new Jewel fan club for Jewel fans started up by a fan., which is not at all uncommon. There has been on-list talk through the years of this list of forming a fan club, and some minor ones did pop up from time to time, but none ever lasted nor were anything more than email based. This is the first one I've seen that went further than being an email-based newsletter. As for "who is Matt Sullivan?", I DO know there has been a Matt Sullivan on this list since June of 1999. Whether or not it's the same Matt Sullivan, I do not know. As always in an online forum such as this, one must use their best judgment when joining any fee-based club or the like. A post by Matt announcing this fan club first came in two weeks ago, but it was caught by some of my list filters and was prevented from reaching the list. I wrote him telling him what he could and could not do on-list concerning this new fan club he was starting up. I told him that while we HAVE had plenty of successful and legit projects on this list that involved money or tapes (etc) being sent to someone, we also had some unfortunate occurrences where people did lose out by non-delivery of what was promised. After reading and understanding what I told him, he then sent in the new post about his fan club within the guidelines I laid out to him. It is up to you if you want to join this club. Also, as list owner it is my responsibility to convey this (and this is in NO way reflecting anything upon Matt or this fan club, I am just doing my duty). I am asking anyone who has problems after joining this fan club to please let me know so I can monitor any situations that may arise. It's not that I totally disagree. Rap does have a place in the music industry. People need to be aware of some of the awful stuff that goes on outside of white suburbia. It's very important to know that these conditions do exist all over America. I do not think he should be ignored or censored. However, I am Hispanic and I don't believe hat Eminem represent the black and hispanic community as a whole. There is a difference between representing the harsh truths of different communities and promoting destructive and stereotypical behaviors. Eminem is not an actor. He's already proved himself to be a violent person. And he's not just an innocent messanger. Often he minimalizes the plight of battered women and other victims of violence. Believe it or not our cultures have just as many wonderful and uniting aspects as they do unfortunate ones. If rappers and hip hop artists really care about the communities they're rapping about then they'd start trying to unite people with their music just as often as they speak of the darker sides. you will find messages that speak of trials and turmoils >very true to our inner city community (as well as other sectors), much like >Jewel's music does at times. You have to remember that Eminem is playing a >part, much like an actor, and the very fact that he's so successful, makes >him quite a good one. IMHO they are totally political and very little if any of it has to do with talent or music. This has nothing to do with Eminem per say, he is just the next point in the scoreboard of political wrangling. They have done political wrangling before- Anybody remember Trisha Yearwood and Leann Rimes? They had the same song on the Charts "How Do I live Without You?" Leann performed it at the Grammys moments later Trisha Yearwood wins the Grammy for singing the exact same song. Can we say slap in the face???? Now they have people like Britney and the Backstreet Boys winning Grammy's UGH! I hate it when they reward no talent fakes.
