Tall grey walls cold cement, hot black steel frigid temperence of strength. Squeeze the people through entries half-sized enveloping and extracting culture. Gears turn in slow motion frames grinding truth and meaning to release plasticine figurines of empty representation. Where ever there is something fresh and unseen, there are armies of money seeking clones bringing musical prostitution burying the masturbatory seers in despondant futility. Truth loses another breath sucked down by wealth-politics bringing conformity to wash the newly bleached papers to the sewage tunnels. Black eyes like pearls stained with urgent survival, fur matted in clumps of shit and stale urine, tiny fragile claws clatter down the shadows along rivers of draino and battery acid coctails used to wash down life's ills. Acrid blends of rotting flesh and domestic waste and excrement lay thick in sheets of dead air ready to burst with acid rain searing my lungs on chemical grills. The numbers are there, what's needed is more encouragement from 'respected' people like the Jewel list manager. If MTV (and radio stations) are not playing Jewel now because there is no perceived interest in her then why would they bother even considering to playlist any new Jewel videos/singles in the future? Of course if you're not interested in seeing Jewel on TV or hearing Jewel on the radio anymore then do nothing. Jewel isn't the only one I never hear on the radio.... I never hear the Wallflowers anymore.... never hear Alanis Morissette, Sarah Maclaughlin, Fiona Apple...... why? because they don't cater to the teenyboppers. Not that Eminem is exactly a "teenybopper" but alot of kids like him... and I have no clue why. So, I don't listen to the radio anymore (because its crap), except a couple of Christian stations in my area.... and as for other music, I listen to music thats not on the radio at all.... I find bands by recommendations of others, and found a whole new world of great music out there.... and i discovered it all by word of mouth, or through jambase.com, or by going to cdnow, and looking up a band, and just clicking on 'related artists". Good music doesn't have to be on the radio, anyway, to prove thats its good. cymbie tree hugger - -- when night falls it's dawn one must reach for. - -a. camus ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Feb 2001 11:22:18 -0500 From: "Kerri" Subject: [EDA] this whole TRL thing I don't know how many of you watch trl, I don't. I don't even know anyone who does. This is a show for the junior high and high school set. Maybe there many on this list who watch it and care who gets on. Personally, I could care less. I have more important things to do, like work and finals. As a grad student I barely have the time to read the list, I definitely shouldn't even be writing right now, but I've always been a procrastinator. My point, go for it if you want, but don't expect too much, and don't blame the list if it doesn't work. I love Jewel's music, and buy the albums and books, but it's not my goal to get her more airplay on MTV. Like I said before, that's just my opinion. Good luck, but think about the millions of screaming boy band fans, most of whom are right in the trl age range. My guess is that each and every member of the list would have to vote at least 50-60 times, and that's if other fans vote once for their "artist" well gotta get back to studying for finals, the quarter system sucks, I have 3 sets of classes, books, and finals : ( - -Kerri "But don't wander too far, my one constant star. I am at TRL now and I'm voting for YWMFM, since that seems like the one you people were wanting to see.... I don't know any one who likes Jewel, nor do I know how to forward to masses of people at once, so if you do, then forward and vote, it won't hurt to try, and then we will find out if the numbers are there!!!! So vote!!!! Good idea? I mean don't get me wrong, I love her songs both old and new, but what do we hope to do? Push our belief that "Jewel is the best!" on TV? Get more people to buy POY? I say we just wait until something new comes out and take it from there. <> Times have changed (not for the better) and music has..evolved. I remember when Alanis was the big thing, and if you didn't have "Jagged Little Pill" and know every word to every song on the album you weren't cool. Well, its still the same, only this time its Brit and Eminem. But just as Alanis went through an "uncool" phase they will, too. <> Actually it seems vice versa now! If music is great, you won't find it on the radio. In fact you'll prolly have to go digging through CDnow etc just to buy an album.
