As someone who has been on the list a rather respectable amount of time (It's been over 3 years I believe) I feel that I have to react to this whole Jewel nude pics thing. I'm still not sure I fully comprehend the whole thing, but I've read some things in recent posts that annoyed me. Those of you who have read my posts in the past know that I'm not your typical "fan". I like Jewel's work, but I do not in any way worship or idolize her. However, I think fake porn pictures are something that is not "leggit" - I think she would not be proud to have them around the net, free to anyone. I think that the problem is the lack of respect for privacy that people have towards their role-models, in this case - Jewel. I think we as people tend to forget that even our heroes and heroins are human. I, as a female and a person, would be very uncomfortable knowing that such a pic of me - fake or real- was open to the public on the internet. I'm not sure about the legal arrangments about this, but if there isn't a law against it by now, then I think that by all rights there should be. Yes, she is out in the public's eye, by her own choise. So, I figure hey, I earned the right to bitch at least once every few months or so ;-). People here in the USA throw such huge fits over nudity. I mean yeah, plenty of people throw fits elsewhere (bitching is international), but I noticed when I was in England, the site of bare breasts in a tabloid, is commonplace and no one writes their congressman to try and get it banned. The beauty of the Internet is the ability to have more freedom than most things that you do in life anymore. To be who you want to be, to say what you want to say, etc. It could be right, it could be wrong. Somethings on here you will totally agree with, somethings on here will piss you off...but that's the cost of freedom. If you want to maintain that freedom you must learn TOLERANCE. Especially with religion and politics, people can be very intolerant...hell, thousands of people have died over it. Now everyone has a right to their opinion, so I'm not saying that everyone who wrote about the whole issue is anymore wrong or right than the guy who initially asked for the pictures, but I think everyone is missing the big picture here. A lot of you are throwing out all these statistics: "...60% of women would "do" her...", "...Jewels fans are a little less than societies average...", (keep in mind, I'm just paraphrasing...I'm not gonna sit here and try to look up each quote now). A lot of you sit there and philosophize about Jewel's opinion in the matter...whether or not she would be offended, blah blah blah. The fact of the matter is, he wants to see a nude picture. It is not for any of us to judge why, what or who. All the comments that state he has a lower IQ, or raging perv, or whatever, show that intolerance that I talked about earlier. Just because someone does not like what you like does not make them more stupid or less of a person. On a personal note, I would love to see a picture of Jewel nude, but I'd totally lose respect for her if she did that (I just don't think it's necessary), but that's my opinion, so I hope she never does pose nude for anything. As for fakes, it's something people do, it may be wrong, it may be ok, but there's nothing that can be done about it. If you don't like it, then ignore it, but allow the people who do like it to go ahead and do what they enjoy. It does not hurt you in any way shape or form. In all reality, things like that come with the territory of being a celebrity. Look at everyone in here that talks about Jewel's personal life or what she did recently. If she was a "normal" person, I'd imagine she'd be a little scared all these people were obessing over her every move, but since she is a celebrity then she has to learn to accept that people will do that. Hell, I'm the lead singer of a band down here in Dallas...we are not huge by any stretch of the imagination, but if someone made a fake nude of me, it wouldn't offend me...it'd probably just make me laugh. Either way, I think that everyone should learn a little tolerance on here, and if you don't like something, feel free to state so...it's your right, but don't start attacking people and saying mean things about someone you don't even know. I'm sure a lot of people on here that seem like good and upright "jewel fans" are complete assholes, but you never say anything about them. I see a lot of positive things happen on this board, I've always been so impressed by the organization and dedication of the EDA's ever since I've been a member. But this constant bitching and intolerance makes me feel that sometimes you may be good fans, but you are missing a lot of Jewel's "vision" (at least what I see of it). She stands for a lot of good things and that's why I love her music. It's similar to the Beatles (mainly John Lennon)...she stands for love, understanding, and compassion for your fellow man and woman. If you are true Jewel fans, you'll spend more time trying to achieve this and work out the rough edges and intolerance within yourself. If not, then hey, no biggie, it's your choice...that's the great thing about it all....Ok, I'm done.
