I tried replacing it with, "Sometimes > it goes that way" or "Sometimes it's gotta be that way" or just "It's > Gotta Be That Way". I think that "It's Gotta Be That Way" is the one I > like the best-- it flows better and is less ebonic than the original > title. I personally think the title of the song is beautiful, although I can see how it's rather awkward in a song. I just have one comment/question. I think you used the wrong word - well I'm assuming so anyhow, to say that it's less "ebonic" than the original. The word ebonic, to me at least, doesn't seem to fit in there at all. If you did chose the correct word, than can you explain what you mean by it being less ebonic? > > I have similar problems with "Quiet Warrior". I think the title and words fit the song well. There are too many lovey-ish songs out there, there has to be something else :) To me it eludes a strong, stubborn, willful personality hidden behind a shy, inverted exterior. She struggles, yet endures with daily life - she's a quiet warrior. I think it pains a beautiful picture of a woman :) ~ Sandy ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Feb 2001 01:54:57 EST From: CleaningDuster@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] Sometimes It Be That Way Ebonics means black slang. In oakland cali, they actually wanted teachers to learn it so they could teach there students better. I personally don't think that you should correcting Jewel's grammar. That is called poetic license. Does anybody remeber a certain Kurt Loder incident. Also you title should be its not it's. Because SOMETIMES it just be that way. In other words things aren't perfect all of the time......just like this title, which in essence is what makes it so perfect. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Feb 2001 10:26:39 -0700 (MST) From: "Laurel --<-<@" Subject: Re: [EDA] Sometimes It Be That Way RIGHT ON!! If a person doesn't feel comfortable singing it that way, that doesn't mean that he's saying something is wrong with the way Jewel wrote it, he just wants to sing it the way he likes it.
