Another place that fans seem to be generally respectful during slow songs is Seattle. I've been at quite a few concerts, including Jewel's, where the performer thanked the crowd for being so attentive during unreleased songs like Violet Eyes and arias like Per la Gloria (which was soooo good!!!) She told us all it was nice to not just have everyone screaming for one of her hits. I also have a question about a lyric that's always confused me. On Barcelona what in the world does, "The churches don't have windows but the graveyards do" mean? Also what she says in two songs about four rooms in her heart, three wait for lightening and one waits for you. Since she has it in two songs it must be significant, but I don't understand it!!! I interpret it as a song about a prostitute that is trying to escape her profession. Therefor, the quote suggests that churches don't offer forgivness/escape (a way out as in 'whenever God closes a door he opens a window') from her situation, the only sure way to escape is death (thus the graveyard.) Also what she says in two songs about four rooms in her >heart, three wait for lightening and one waits for you. Since she has it in >two songs it must be significant, but I don't understand it!!! "And you wake up making love to a wall" That line and most of the song has always implied a feeling of helplessness and lonliness to me. It's like when you're faced with an obstacle or crisis of some sort, and you try your best to get out of it, but it never seems to get any better. This is echoed in the line "when you're drowning in deep water, and you're bailing yourself out with a straw". And so "you wake up making love to a wall" is like a cry for help, because you can't fix the problem/crisis on your own. Yet this cry for help is left unanswered, as though you were speaking to a wall. Or, if you take it literally.. it's like reaching out in your sleep for someone to help/comfort you, but there's no one there, and all you touch is the wall. Don't know if that made any sense... perhaps only i know what i'm talking about... lol. I think that like with a lot of her songs she changes the lyrics pretty often. In the version I have it almost sounds like she paused because she forgot the words or something and just sort of mumbled a phrase. I guess I just need to listen to a different version. The person who initiated it just sent it to a bunch of people who had posted to the EDA list recently, including me here at my work address (AND two of my home addresses). The line is "Inside my Heart, there's an empty room, and it's waiting for lightning. It's waiting for you." I LOVE this song, and play if for my fiance all the time. This line says to me that there is an empty place in your "heart/life" and you are waiting for someone to "light it up" like lightning does to a dark empty room. I could go on and on about this song for hours but I won't. I will say though that when I hear this song it speaks to me who, after some really bad experiences, hid in the fear that I would never find someone to really love me and care for me and gave up in a sense. When I met my fiance he broke down all those walls and showed me what real love, patience and respect is, and this song "says it all" so to speak. I mean, I know it does not mean what it sounds like but I > just want to understand that song more cause all the other words in that > song mean alot and I understand them... Please can someone explain that > part to me??? This is Jewel's explanation for Deep Water, it's transcribed from the Atlantic Records Jewel/Spirit Interview promo CD. "Well two things: One is that still water runs deep and what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and you can either use your experiences in your life to make you bitter or you can use them to make you deeper and stronger, it's a choice, I think, ultimately. And the other idea of the song is that, you know, you're standing in deep water and you're baling yourself out with a straw. It's like these ridiculous things we do to get ourselves out. You end up making love to a wall is about suddenly you realise that you've been living your life without much substance. And it hits you one day. And you realise: why am I doing this, you know, one gin and tonic to the next." It doesn't matter who is the biggest fan, it matters who is a good fan. I didn't like the idea of having Jewel on Fanatic, because there was the chance of someone with an unhealthy obsession being on there. Come on ya'll, a good fan doesn't bother with the petty stuff; if you're a good fan, you'll support your celebrity no matter what it is they do, unless they screw up. I fully support Miss Kilcher in all that she does, and I don't bother with the stuff that's not important, like how she dresses, or her fame. I'm a fan of Jewel's because she has a different perspective than most. By the way, the lady lucky enough to be on Fanatic with Jewel was/is not a psycho...LOL, I know, I talked to her several times.
