A friend of mine is a Radiohead fan, and I want to give her, as a birthday present, some rare Radiohead stuff that she doesn't have. The only problem is that the only bootlegs I have are from Jewel.... So, does anyone on this list has Radiohead bootlegs that are willing to trade for some Jewel? If you don't have any Radiohead bootlegs, but know someone who has and might be interested in trading them for some Jewel, please tell me! I'm looking for really really rare stuff, but in A quality... so can you give me any suggestions on what to give my friend? She only has the official album releases... so I don't want any songs from there... I'm looking for unreleased & rare stuff... Thanks for your help, Mirko Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! Sounds strange Hi! About the touring discussion, I've something to say: Mike said: "Well, Chris got me on the size thing....I admit I did not check the figures.....my bad....I erred as I was referring to the general expanse of where Jewel actually performs in Europe. (many shows in England and Germany, and most of the others being in western Europe......my main point was it seems a few of you guys over there manage to see at least a half dozen shows or more because of the many she does in a region, versus the one in NYC, one in Boston, one in Philadelphia etc etc she does in the states. It's rare to hear on the list anyone seeing more than 2 or 3 of her shows stateside." Well, what about South American fans? Do they ever get to see Jewel perform live? Or even in TV? And only a few times in the radio! You Americans and Europeans are lucky... at least you can see her ONCE (...and once for every tour...), and if she doesn't go to your hometown, at least she's performing anywhere near... Ron Shapiro said they were leaving Latin America for the next Tour (that was during the POY era, so the "next tour" meant the Spirit Tour...) and she hasn't come yet... at least I know that here in PERU (NOTE: *please Jewel if you ever come to South America come to Peru, I'm your #1 fan in South America!!!*) a lot of people will go to her concert! What is happening here is that many people have heard some of Jewel songs, but they just don't know who she is... or what the name of the song was... so I think a little promotion will help Jewel to be know around here. I know many people have heard YWMFM and like it, but they don't know who sings it... that's a shame... The good news is that some radio stations seem to have heard that Jewel is recording a new album, and have passed YWMFM one day (...which I think is something special... something like a breakthrough), seems like now the only thing that I can do is called up radio stations asking for more Jewel songs to be played and make Jewel notice SOUTH AMERICA! Just my thoughts, I was not complaining by the way, Mirko *the angel from peru* Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! For example > Madonna or another stupid singer (hmmm she isn't but okay america likes > her..) Britney S is doing so much more promotional activities. That's because Britney Spears has an album out now that she's still promoting. You only GO to Europe to PROMOTE if you have something to promote! > Jewel's second book Chasing Down the Dawn was hardly promoted in Europe or > in any other part of the world. I think in my wisdom then that Jewel is only > focussing on America. I don't think it means Jewel is only "focusing" on America.. i think it means Jewel and Harper Collins realised that if it was going to sell ANYWHERE, America would be the place. Jewel's music isn't even popular in Europe.. therefore a book about her isn't going to be particularly popular. I guess they knew a promotional trip to europe for the book would've been a waste of time. however, that won't be the case when the next album comes out... the reason people always email and bite your head off about these emails you send.. is that every two months you email the list complaining that jewel hasn't been to europe in ages. enough already. jewel hasn't been to canada in over a year as well! you just have to shut up about it... suck it up. ok? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Jan 2001 21:43:09 +0100 From: "Tom" Subject: Re: [EDA] 19 months no Jewel Appereances in Europe ?? Sounds strange <> Well, those of us who have the money :). I think it's kind of good that artists take breaks from touring and promoting. It makes it more exciting when they do come back. I mean I wouldn't want to be thinking 'oh god, Jewel's on telly again' when at the moment I go crazy when I see anyone like Jewel, Sarah, Dido, Nelly Furtado, etc on TV. It's more fun this way. And as for touring - almost no North American band will tour Europe 2 years in a row. Again, this adds to the fun of going to see one of my favourite artists (eg Dido in February! hehe)... The reason Jewel doesn't tour or promote as much in Europe as artists like Madonna is because she's just not as popular in Europe as Madonna. With both her albums Jewel has promoted quite a lot in Europe and really tried to get a big fanbase here, but it hasn't worked. I wouldn't blame Jewel if, with her next album, she doesn't tour at all. Artists simply tour in places where they're selling records. So Jewel concentrates more on America. Obviously, because that's where she has the biggest fanbase and that's where she's sold most of her records. I love being a European fan - I never get sick of a good song from overplay because none of the music I like is ever on the radio. And if someone wants to make fun of me for liking an artist I just have to say 'so have you actually heard of them?'... 9 out of 10 times they haven't, and then they shut up. I like it that way :). She could always come to Europe to promote her singles. I don't know about the rest of Europe but Jewel's UK record company (EastWest) seem to give up after the second single because Jewel can't (won't) return to promote them. Foolish Games was ditched just before it's scheduled release in January 98. A third single from Spirit wasn't even considered because EastWest were unable to get access to Jewel. And who can blame her when she doesn't have very many fans there and is so far from home? I know it must be hard not to see her much if you live in Europe, but realize that touring there seems really depressing for her. Really.... on the Life Uncommon video, when she's in the hotel room trying to write a song (Last Dance Rodeo), and then she goes out for a while.... it seems really sad and depressing.
