Subject: [EDA] Be Reasonable..... ok forget the article. But I have to respond to something hillarious. "or maybe the artical is false. Newspapers do that sometimes." A)No, if it is published as a serious article, they do not make up stories if they value their integrity. That's a ridicules statement. B)Just because a family member is upset about the contents of a book does not make them bitter. WHY must there always be a reason in favor of Jewel for someone's disagreement? He simply feels differently than she does about some of the events. Secondly, it is NOT just the Kilcher family that has the right to put their opinion about stories written about them in a paper. ANYONE can send in a personal response to something pertaining to them. If the newspaper finds it interesting they will print it. It happens ALL the time in matter like this. "don't involve the public with personal disputes with family members... that's just horrible, harsh and wrong." Ummm hello? Did Jewel not just publish intimate stories about her family? Does she solely possess the right to express her feelings about family and certin experiences and problems she had with them? Why do they not have that same right to publicly address Jewel? Why can Jewel complain in her book about fans and the public not respecting her personal boundries and then turn around and invade the personal boundries of her cousin Arlyn without at least talking to him and even getting her fact straight? I'm not REALLY on any side about this except that I agree that Jewel is not in the right every single time her actions are brought in to question. Who's to say what every reason was for the family to feel hurt. But why is it instantly because they're bitter or harsh? Maybe they're just upset at some things being misrepresented. Give me a break people. Don't be so angry because someone is upset with Jewel. It happens. Why can't we TRY to be understanding and see it from another viewpoint. We keep talking about Jewel's point of view but there are many others. Brooke P.S. To whoever asked, the article was in the Anchorage Daily News. I have it cut out but you can't get it after the day it's printed unless you pay for it. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Jan 2001 00:57:41 -0500 (EST) From: Cody26@webtv.net (Michelle Cody) Subject: [EDA] olivia grace hello everyone! i am quite behind on my update, but alot has happened in the last week. the stress of this traumatic situation has really taken a toll on jimmy and i's relationship. he has moved out and is living with his brother, danny. evrything will be ok. our main focus is olivia, and what is best for her. so, here is what is going on with my beautiful, precious daughter. she is diagnosed with BPD, RDS, and CLD. for those of you who arent sure what all the initials mean, basically, they all mean big prob;lems with her lungs. BPD-bronchial dysplasia disorder: lungs damged due to extensive use of respirator/RDS-respiratory distress syndrome:difficulty breathing/CLD-chronic lung disease. so, as you can see, olivias biggest problem are her lungs and oxygen. simply from being born so very premature. when i bring her home, she willl be on oxygen for 3 to 6 months. because she is sooooo sucseptable to any diease, she must stay inside for 6 months. almost like living in a bubble. she is unabl;e to be around anybody!! and very importantly, nobody, absolutely nobody, that has a commn cold, or has children with a cold, can come anywhere near olivia. she will contract a disease in infants called RSV. it is almost always fatal. it is a germ they catch from a simple cold to us. also, if anyone would like to see her, you must wear a mask ans scrub your hands when you come in. and VERY importantly, you cannot smoke. not even smoke on your clothing. the poisons and fumes of the smoke is fatal to my angel in the first two years of life. until her lungs can begin repairing themselves with new tissue. after the first two years of life--we can take a deep breath ans sigh of releif. but beleive me, i will protect my daughter with my life!! she is the miracle of my life, and such a blessing from God. She is now 4 POUNDS!!!! CAN U BELEIVE IT!!!!!!!! and she is taking three bottles a day!!!!!:) the remainder of her feedings are still thru the gavage tube. she is soo very smart. she began taking th e bottle, way before expected. she smiles alot. she has us wrapped around her sweet little finger!! she was exubated last friday!!!!!!!! right before christmas!! it was the best christmas in my whole life. she loves to turn her head back and forth. she is so much more comfortable!! we just went and bought her some onesies, and some cute fluffy socks. we are able to dress her now. so today, i put a pink onesie on her, and some white fluffy socks. she is the most beautiful, precious little girl i have ever seen. we have a lot of physical therapy to do with her. her right foot is a bit twisted from being on her stomach alot-and we have to start exceing her muscles. we just learned from the theraoist today what we need to do. olivia crie her eyes out at first, the she calmed down, and let me finish doing them without any fuss. she just looked around with her big angel eyes. she is such a good girl. we are allowed to hold olivia every day now!!:) it is so wonderful. she loves to be held. i cannot wait for you all to meet her somedaY> SHE IS THE LIGHT OF MY LIFE> WE LOVE YOU ALL!!! michelle, and Olivia----thanks to you all for your continued prayer-it means the world to us. it is the greatest gift we could ask for!! happy new year to all!!!! It was a young Karl Marx who said it. The full quote is worth reading as it is, I think, very perceptive and even poetic, and basically sympathetic while critical: "Religious suffering is ... an expression of real suffering and a protest against real suffering. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the sentiment of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people." Here are my favorite albums of 2000. Let me know what you all think, if you care or have time. (I've faced some objection so far) 1- Music, Madonna - an amazing artist (songwriter, producer, singer, dancer, actress) who's going strong & better than ever at 42 after almost 2 decades of huge success. Her latest & best (in my humble opinion) album to date is proof of her true talents. Madonna does it better than anyone! Long live Madonna! 2- In Blue, The Corrs - this foursome of siblings from Ireland prove that they're more than just a gorgeous family, from the first track, "Breathless." After selling millions upon millions of albums around the world, the U.S. is finally just beginning to take notice of their 4th album (including 1999's Unplugged). They are an amazing & talented group who do it their way & make it happen. 3- Return of Saturn, No Doubt - the little ska band that could grows up & releases a more mature & incredible new album that proves they have what it takes, and that Gwen Stefani is a writing force to be reckoned with. 4- All That You Can't Leave Behind, U2 - another legendary group spits out an amazing new collection of true rock-n-roll when teeny boppers and hip hop are what's popular. 5- No Angel, Dido - the latest British invasion swims against the mainstream & proves that audiences are still interested in singers who have more to say than "Bye bye bye" or "Oops." That's about it for now. I hope you enjoyed my comments. If you have time let me know what you think, although I'm sure you have many to read. Take care, & thanks for doing this poll. =~) Justin, The Happy Phantom Angel ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Jan 2001 21:33:51 +0100 From: "michiel van gorkum" Subject: [EDA] What will bring Jewel in 2001 ??? hello Jewelfans, I think Chris one other dedicated fan from Europe made a very good point with provoking a discussion on this list about Jewel's strategy. Let one thing be clear Jewel writes and performs wonderful. Everyone who ever attended a concert can really agree with this. But what we hope on the other side of the ocean is another great record which might be released this year and a great concert tour. i am already saving money to attend this great concerts. I think it would be great to see Jewel write songs like Does anybody believe in love, Rosy and mick, stephenville and break me on the new record. Or the sensitive Angel and So close to heaven. I think Jewel's lyrics are very touchy and can change the world. I don't think Jewel will be ever a big popdiva like Madonna or Faith Hill. But at least she should try to win at least a couple of more fans because she deserves more credits for her work. I think sometimes people underestimate her talents. Especially the last article from her family was something which i found very interesting. It gave a light on Jewel not many people would have been imaging. It shows that she is also just a human like we all . nobody is perfect , but still let's hope 2001 will be Jewel's year to shine in the spotlights. michiel a dutch Jewelfan lucky to have seen the alaskan angel in paris, london, hamburg, berlin, cambridge, belfast, dublin, landgraaf, munich, stuttgart, offenbach, saratoga (2x) and visalia... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Jan 2001 15:44:43 EST From: Buster2530@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Chasing Down The Truth-My Opinion EDA's, I know you're probably all sick of this by now, but I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. I just read the article, and it sounds to me like all that woman wants was Jewel to write more about her......selfish I guess, I don't know. And I wish that she would realize that everyone has their own point of view, and just because they see it one way, doesn't mean Jewel will see it that way too. Jewel is just recalling events in her life that were probably the most vivid and detailed(i don't know). I personally love the book, and this article has just made me want to read it yet again. =) Okay, i'm done now. See everyone later! Oh! I haven't seen any real evidence in her statements, songs or other writings that she is a Christian. Certainly just singing Christian songs doesn't make her a Christian. I recently bought a copy of a CD called "Songs of Free Men" (yes, the title is sexist but typical of the period, the 1940s). The singer is that great American, Paul Robeson, and on it he sings, beautifully in his rich bass-baritone, a number of spirituals. Now Robeson is better know for his Marxist sympathies than for being a Christian. Singing spirituals was an act of solidarity and sympathy with the feelings of oppression of black Americans, not with the particular "opiate" they used to assuage their suffering. Similarly, the attraction of Christmas and Christmas songs for Jewel, it seems to me, is that it is the season of good will. She says as much on the video of "Joy". Jewel's faith is, in part, that "we're all OK". The Christian faith, from my reading, is that we're not "OK" (original sin) and can only be saved from eternal damnation by Jesus. For me "Hands" is anti-Christian and it's on "Joy" too; Jewel also sings "who will save your soul, if you won't save your own?" The only mentions of Jesus in the songs I've heard are trivial (in "Sometimes It Be That Way" and "Down So Long", for example). I've been playing "Joy" a lot lately and I'm not a Christian: I go along with the "good will to all" sentiment and I just love that voice. Take care, Barry Howarth PS -- for trivia buffs. Neither of the two (mutually contradictory) versions of the birth of Jesus (in the gospels of Matthew and Luke) indicate it took place on 25 December. In fact, Luke's version would seem to imply it happened nowhere near that time of year: it has been suggested that shepherds would not be watching their flocks by night in mid winter. The earliest suggestion,by Clement of Alexandria in the 3rd century CE, was 20 May, which would fit better. But politics and propaganda carried the day for the winter solstice and the festival of Sol Invictus. ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V6 #2 *************************
