["cymbaline" Subject: [EDA] NJC: Followed My Dreams Hi EDA's, For those of you who know me, here's a little update. For those of you who do not know me, here's a little story about how Jewel inspired me to follow my dreams...and they finally came true! I think everyone wants to be two things at one time in their life: a singer and a firefighter. In fact, I remember an article I read about Jewel early on in her career where she talked about wanting to be a firefighter as a child so she could ride on the fire engine. Thankfully for all of us, she ended up a singer. When I first became interested in Jewel's music, I read a little bit about her life and it was truly inspirational. She overcame so much and eventually exceeded her dream of making a living from performing music. The more I read about her, the more I saw I had in common with this rising star. She was about the same age as me, she enjoyed surfing, the San Diego connection (it's almost a second home to me), among other things. When she talked about following your dreams, it was much easier to believe than someone you know nothing about and have little in common with telling you "You can do it" with a plastic smile on their face. I too growing up wanted to be a singer or a firefighter. Well, anyone who has every heard my voice is very thankful that I did not pursue a career as a singer. Instead I dedicated myself to becoming a firefighter and after eight long years that dream has finally come true! I just got accepted by the Los Angeles City Fire Department and will start training with them in January. It's easy to lose sight of your dreams after years of getting nowhere. Even having someone inspire you is great, but without continuous refreshment it is easy to quit. That is why Jewel has been such an inspiration for me. She has continuously talked about making your dreams into reality just as she has done. Every time I play her CD's I am inspired by her success, it's that kind of inspiration that helped turn my dream into reality. I remember four long years ago, even before Jewelstock, writing a letter to Jewel thanking her for inspiring me to rededicate myself to becomeing a firefighter (I jokingly told her that if I did, I'd be more than happy to give her a ride on the engine like she wanted as a child). Well four years and a lot of hard work later my dream is coming true, so I just thought I'd share how Jewel has impacted my life. Thanks Jewel...and thanks to all of my family and friends for their support and prayers over the last eight years, couldn't have done it without them either! He said nothing was scheduled until > at least the second half of 2001. > > Chris. Why is it a surprise that she has nothing scheduled until at least the second half of 2001? She's only BEGINNING work on her new album in January, and usually 5 months are required from the time an album finishes recording to the time it's released (for the record companies to figure out promotion etc etc).... I doubt any of us can expect a new album until late 2001. as far as Joy goes... christmas albums only usually sell from established artists. people don't usually rush out to buy a christmas album from somebody they've never heard of or don't really like. Joy was released in asia and australia/new zealand... but i guess she's just not well known enough in europe. but i'm sure you'll get the next proper album, when everybody else does, in the back end of 2001. oh... and a few weeks ago somebody emailed the list asking about the Life Uncommon single in Australia... and somebody else emailed asking about Joy with EXTRA TRACKS. Well the Extra Tracks on the australian and asian versions of Joy ARE the life uncommon single. they put the live track at the end of the CD because it wasn't released as as single in those countries. steve ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Dec 2000 22:16:20 +0100 From: "michiel van gorkum" Subject: [EDA] x-mas songs with sarah & jewel ??? hello Jewelfans, Is there any jewelfan who can tell me on which records the songs from christmas between jewel & sarah mclachlan are from . That doesn't necessarily mean it's been released there. I know at least in North America, our record stores carry "imports" from other countries (for example, I could buy the Australian "Spirit" import here in my town), therefore the single you saw might have been the North American (or wherever else it was released as well) import. :) ~ Sandy > I think it may have been at least released (Life Uncommon single) here in > Australia because Ive seen it at record shops. > > Thanks, > Nikki ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Dec 2000 18:29:14 -0500 From: "cymbaline" Subject: Re: [EDA] x-mas songs with sarah & jewel ??? Hmmm.... It seems as though NO magazine likes Jewel's new book. I just got the new Cleo (Australian on) and on page 29 it has a picture of jewel and a bit about her book: - ------------------------------------------------------- TOO MUCH INFORMATION As if singer-songwriter Jewel's poetry collection A Night Without Armour wasn't enough, she has now published "Chasing Down The Dawn" (HarperEntertainment, $35), a collection of (eek!) her journal enrties and jottings. Among the many thrilling things she shares with her readers is the following: "there was no laundry service at my hotel in Glasgow, so the maids tok my duvet cover home with them and washed it for me. They returned it white and soft, smelling of normalcy. It smells like their home. It makes me happy to lie in it." The book also features her drawings, which- incredibly-are worse than her writing. You have been warned. --------------------------------------------------------- Why does no one like this book?? I love it and think most of the drawings are pretty damn good! I reckon they are just jealous of her talent. Then again, maybe you just have to be a Jewel fan to enjoy it.......?? I was reversing the role from the statement you made about Britney to how OTHERS (notice, this is NOT including myself) may react to Jewel's two books. MEANING-that is how reviewers, critics, etc., may react. Let me make that simpler. The way that you reacted to the thought of a Britney book is how many people would react to a Jewel book...do you see what I am saying now? > Oh come on...you left out the best part...the SARCASM...since we all know what a reputable magazine EW is...how they have THE BEST writers on staff...Do you like EW? >I was not rushing to her aid, and not *once* did I make a statement that said I cared a great deal about the bad review, or that I thought the review was wrong, I wasn't even talking to YOU specifically. Hi EDA'S. A discussion that came up today in the "Jewel Fans Chat Room" was, which do you like in Jewel songs better, electric guitar songs like Down or Racecar Drvier or acoustic songs like YWMFM or WWSYS? I think it is a very good question for us all to answer. I like all of Jewe's acoustic songs the most but I like Down and Racecar Driver too haha. Let's hear what you think...
